Day 8 – Disney's Hollywood Studios & Yachtsman Steakhouse
Today's Video - TOWER OF TERROR & THE GREAT MOVIE RIDE
Today was, guess what?
........Yet another early rise!, this time for Disney Hollywood Studios EMH.
We just about managed to make rope drop.
The crowd was quite deep, by the time we got there, but we had already planned our moves!. At rope drop, I headed to get 3 FP’s for Toy Story Mania, while, Sue and Emma headed towards Tower of Terror. The route to the Toy Story attraction was strictly guided by the CM’s and I eventually joined the FP just outside One Man’s dream!
. The lines moved at a steady pace and before too long, I had got 3 FP’s for 9:40. I made my way back towards TOT and met Sue & Emma outside. The ride was temporarily down and the CM had kindly given her 3 FP’s to ride at any time. As we met up, we had a look at Rock and Roller Coaster. The queue was about 45 minutes, so I rode alone in the single rider. I managed to walk straight to the ‘studio’ and within 5 minutes I was stepping into the ‘Limo’. This is quite a fierce ride, and although Sue and Emma have ridden it before, they usually opt out of this one. Meeting up together outside, we made our way to ‘Starring Rolls’ where we had breakfast.
Nigel – Croissant + butter
Sue – Cherry Danish
Emma – Chocolate Muffin
The Toy Story fast passes where now valid, so we made our way over to the ride. We still waited around 15 minutes, as the standby lines were enormous. Emma wanted to ride alone on this, so Sue and me went head to head. The lead changed hands at almost every scene, but I managed to clinch victory – just about! Exiting Toy Story Mania, we had a look at the Voyage of the Little Mermaid, but they had cancelled the previous performance for some reason and the queue was now enormous! Next up is a favourite of ours The Great Movie Ride. On this occasion we had the Cowboy scene, on previous visits it has mainly been the gangsters but we enjoyed it all the same. On the way out we had a wander over to Star Tours to check out the new rides, however the queues were long so we grabbed some fast passes. On our travels we came across Phineas and Ferb, so we joined the queue for some photographs and autographs.
Just next door was Lightning McQueen and Mater, there was not many waiting, so we had more photographs taken again.
Lunchtime was approaching so we paid a visit to one of our favourite CS at Backlot Express.
Nigel – Turkey Swiss with Fries – Marble Cheesecake – Diet Coke
Sue – Grilled Vegetable Sandwich with Fries – Marble Cheese Cake – Water
Emma – Hot Dog with Fries – Strawberry Parfait – Diet Coke
Our fast passes for Star Tours were now valid and even better, the FP entrance was empty. We queued outside the ride cabin for a few minutes before we entered the ride. The ride was better than from what I can remember, having previously ridden it many years ago. Backlot Tour was our next attraction, although I do feel the Pearl Harbour scene is now starting to look dated. The journey through the prop warehouse is always interesting, trying to spot items from your favourite films. On leaving the ride, we passed through various outfits and exhibits, my favourite being from Pirates of the Caribbean.
American Idol was next, where we managed to walk straight into the studio, missing all of the pre-show hype. An incident incurred a few rows in front of us, whereby a CM had some form of conflict with a guest, who climbing over the rows of seats. At the end of the show, as we were leaving, the guest was met by members of security and taken aside. We realised we had not used our TOT fast passes, so we headed in that direction. As we were nearing the entrance, a guest asked if we were a party of 3 and then kindly handed us three more fast passes! Tower of Terror was as good as usual with the drop sequence being varied yet again. We quickly made a second visit using our ‘free fast passes’. At about 3:00 pm we decided to leave the park, browsing in the shops on our way out.
We headed back to OKW and decided to have a couple of hours in the pool. Here we met Wayne and his family and later Martin's family arrived also. Tonight we had an ADR at Yachtsman Steakhouse, so we left the pool at around 5:00 pm to shower and change. Our previous visit to the Yachtsman last year was not pleasant due to the extremely poor service, however we decided to give it another shot. We arrived at 7:15 pm ready for our 7:30 pm reservation and we were seated rather promptly. Our server tonight was Carrie, a pleasant lady from Orlando.
The meal tonight was good and the service even better.
Nigel – 12oz Prime New York Strip Steak with Peppercorn Brandy Sauce and Carmody Potato Gratin – Yachtsman Sundae – Diet Coke
Sue – Filet Mignon with Mashed Potatoes and Red Wine Sauce – Crème Brulee – Captains Rum Runner Cocktail
Emma – Filet Mignon with Fries – Stoned Fruit and Cream – Diet Coke
During the evening we caught the eye of our server from the previous year. She came over to our table and without prompting she remembered our ordeal from last year. She was most thankful for giving the restaurant a second chance.
We called into the Hess station to fill up the car and then carried onto Downtown Disney, where we had a browse round West Side before returning back to OKW at 11:30 pm.
Coming up next………….Boggy Creek Airboat and Kona Cafe
