Day 16 – DTD & Mama Melrose + Fantasmic!

Woke up this morning and decided to have a leisurely morning at DTD. I made a quick call to the front desk to check the time of the first boat. 9:30 the lady replied, so we got to the dock at 9:20 only to find we were the only people there. I had a wander around taking some photographs of the resort.

The boat finally arrived at 9:55 and it appeared that 10:00 was the correct departure time. The journey was pleasant, passing a boat full of young pirates on the way.

Leaving the boat, we had a look at the new Lego characters.

Suitably fuelled, we moved onto the Disney Christmas Shop where we managed to spend a small fortune. Next up was Goofy’s Candy Store where we spent a few snack credits and also a good few minutes fooling around in front of the mirrors.

TrenD was next, where Emma got a few small presents for her friends back at school. Sue and Emma then made a beeline to Ghiradellis to sample the free chocolate on offer.

Our final stop was at World of Disney, here we purchased various items such as photo frames, pins, t-shirts and kitchen items. I have been in here many times before but never really noticed the displays suspended from the ceiling.

Emma had a second occurrence of the unnatural act of spending her own money, she purchased a Duffy sailor outfit, a nerd bag and presents for her school friends. We caught the boat back to OKW where we showered and changed ready for our ADR at Mama Melrose as part of the Fantasmic! Package. Wayne had pre-booked this as we were going as a party of 14. When we arrived at Mama Melrose the queue was horrendous, which accounted for the extremely long wait we had before being shown to our table.

The lighting in here is extremely low and on occasions I used the light from my phone just to read the menu!

Nigel – Mixed Greens + Vine-Ripened Tomato Flatbread + Chocolate Amarettini Cheesecake
Sue – Minestrone Soup + Penne Alla Vodka + Mama’s Panna Cotta
Emma – Minestrone Soup + Chicken Campanelle + Chocolate Cannoli Cake

During the meal we were greeted by newlyweds, Sarah and Jamie (Disney Sarah), who were enjoying their honeymoon. Sarah had recognized me from pictures on the DIS and came over to say hello.

After the meal was finished, we still had a good while before Fantasmic! was due to start and so most of us decided to ride TOT. Since the lines weren’t too long we managed to get a second ride in, but this ended in a slight mechanical failure just before exited the ride.

We eventually made our way to Fantasmic!, via the special entrance for those using the Fantasmic! dining package. We had reasonably good seats and the crowd constantly entered us with a huge Mexican wave, which travelled back and forth along the entire length of the arena. As usual the show was over quickly, with the evil queen being despatched and Mickey coming to the rescue.

We made our way out and decided to got POR for a bite to eat, first calling back at OKW to collect our mugs. After having our food we headed back to OKW and finally reached our beds around 11:30.

Coming up next – Animal Kingdom & 50’s Prime Time Cafe
