2011: The Year of the FOOD 5 Trips Worth of Dining Reviews! UPDATE 11/23

I'm joining in (of course!) I need some more food pictures to carry me through the year until my next trip to WDW :thumbsup2 And don't worry, I haven't forgot about your other TR (:

Casey's Corner

Hot Dogs, French Fries, Cracker Jacks, and Brownies:

dsc0523so.jpg

Casey's is an all-time favorite. The theming is great, as well as the hot dogs! On this particular day, everything was cooked perfectly! The hot dogs are all beef, which is a little different than "normal" hot dogs. However, I like them better. YUM! The French Fries are also addicting. I'm pretty sure I ate all of mine. Thankfully, they were done JUST right and weren't overcooked on this particular day. They were hot and fresh! Also, since we had the dining plan, we got dessert included. So some of us got cracker jacks, and others got brownies. Those are okay, but they aren't really anything to rave about.

Welcome Timmy! I'm glad you're over here as well! Food Pictures are a must! And haha that is fine! No worries :goodvibes I update this one more frequently because it takes so much less time haha so both of them are up and running for your enjoyment!

Crystal Palace
January 16th, 2011

Our dining experience at Crystal Palace on our January Trip was a bit hectic. First of all, Vickie was feeling sick. That was complicated because we didn't want to drag her through dinner if she didn't feel well. Thankfully, she made it through dinner fine. However, the wait for the meal was bad. Our reservation was for exactly 7:00 pm, which is just not a good time. I think that if you're going to go here for dinner, go either earlier or later. NOT during the prime time. Vick needed to sit down, so being surrounded by swarms of people and having to stand and wait was just not a good combo.

Bu anyways.... the food was good!

(From Left to Right) Peel N Eat Shrimp, Mashed Potatoes, Prime Rib, Pizza, Corn Spoon Bread, a Roll, and Grapes:

dsc0561kl.jpg

This was my plate and I was overall pleased with everything! It was really delicious. I like the variety that they have at Crystal Palace because everyone can find something they like!

(From Left to Right) Pizza, Qunioa with Hearts of Palm, Apple Slices, Mashed Potatoes, Mac and Cheese, Broccoli, Wild Mushroom and Chicken Pasta, and Salad:

dsc0562kh.jpg

This is Kristen's plate. Once again, very happy with the selection. No complaints about the food quality from us! It's nothing super adventurous but it definitely gets the job done!

(From Left to Right) Apple Crisp, Strawberry(?) Cheesecake, I (don't know), Chocolate Cake, and (no idea):

dsc0563ge.jpg

I'm sorry it's so hard for me to remember what the specific items were. Buffets are just tricky to recall! These desserts were all very good! My favorite one was the strawberry cheesecake (WOW!) and my least favorite was the unknown one in between the apple crisp and chocolate cake. They have so many options for desserts, so I'm glad they were sample size so I could try them all!

(From Left to Right) Strawberry Cheesecake, Peach Cobbler, (I don't know), Passion Fruit Tart, and Bread Pudding:

dsc0564ew.jpg

This was Kristen's buffet plate of desserts. Her favorite thing was the Passion Fruit Tart... it was really good! It earned her
:mickeybar Food of the Day :mickeybar status. So props to the Passion Fruit Tart!

dsc0565a.jpg

Overall, we liked Crystal Palace. However, I don't know how often I'm going to go back for dinner. Probably only once in a great while. I will definitely NOT make my reservation for 7 o'clock either. Very bad timing!

LOVE CASEYS!!! I have a brother named casey so my family has always had a strong connection to casey's because of it! Those hotdogs being amazing definitely helps! the french fries are also great! the past couple times i'm been their i haven't been crazy about the buns, luckily the hotdogs and fries offset that though :thumbsup2 I agree about the desserts, I usually just pocket mine and save it for when i leave disney. they aren't bad desserts, there are just better desserts in magic kingdom.

As for crystal palace, I have heard that there breakfest is better than there dinner. we originally had a dinner scheduled for here in january but we changed it to breakfest. all the dinner stuff still looks good though!

Can't go wrong with Casey's or CP. We book an ADR for an early breakfast at CP every trip. Walk down & empty Main St. & head to an amazing breakfast. We have done dinner there as well & it is oh so good!!

Aww that's really precious! And yes, those hot dogs are good! In January it was before they changed the buns... I still haven't really gotten over that. But oh well. Those french fries are GOOD  And yup that's what I do! I don't usually end up eating them though. I just get left with a smushed brownie!

Yes, I agree with that. I like breakfast A LOT better. I would do dinner again, but never at 7 o'clock. Way too crazy.

I agree! They're both great! I never have booked a CP breakfast that early, but I should someday! And mmm I agree.. the food is delicious!

Hi Jess!

You've done it again. Usually, (brace yourself) I get VERy bored just looking at food-it just makes me jealous-so I voweled to never read dining reviews. However, I've been following along with all of your TRs and when I saw the link in your siggy...I very cautiously moused over...and ever so slowly, clicked my mouse!!! I know, I know, I know what you're thinking. What's the big deal?? Well, I must say...I'm hooked. Yes. I, Abigail-shame of all DIS foodies- have subscribed to a... DINING REVIEW!! And I owe it all to you. If it wasn't YOU who was writing this, I never even would have hosted the THOUGHT of reading a DR. But...here I am. You should be very proud of yourself. :)

I'll step off my soapbox now, and let you go lie down after hearing my rant. ;) But, I just wanted you to know this phenomena.

And no worries-I'm only 13. So, I still have a few years to get hooked on DRs and food pics. :) Who knows?? Maybe you'll change me...

Hello!
Aww your comment just made me so happy! I'm glad you're here and that I have the honor of being the author of your first ever dining review! I hope you continue to enjoy it! And thank you for sharing your story... I love hearing things like that :goodvibes
Haha maybe you will end up liking Dining Reviews! But hey, I'm a foodie. Maybe you eventually will be too! I just can't resist looking at all of the beautiful pictures

Yeah. Usually, I stick to Trip Reports and the Teen Board. And the occasional lurking on Theme Parks and Startegies or Creative DISigns or the Arts and Crafts and Creative Community. But...I'm here!!

The fun has arrrriiiiivvvveddd!! (Catch the reference??)

I'm glad I made you happy! Because when I make OTHER people happy...I get happy. And that's good. My family always says that when I'm not happy, NOBODY's happy! :goodvibes So far...you are the only DR I've read, but maybe...just MAYBE...I'll evenually hike up my skirt, crawl out of my little shell, and go on a little DIS adventure, reading some others. ;) The truth is...I LOVE looking at all the pictures...but it just makes me wanna go even MORE to my happy place. You ares so LUCKY you get to go 5 times in ONE YEAR! We usually go once a year, but I'm still SUPER grateful for that.

One day, I'd love to be an annual pass holder, but it would be a waste at this point. The cost of the travel, me getting out of school, family gtting of work, brother not being busy, etc. is just too much though to go too often in a year. EVen though...you can never TRULY go to Disney TOO often. ;)

Looking forward to reading more (Did I just say that??? Curse my un-foodie tongue:lmao: )!!

Mmmmmm Casey's! I could REALLY go for some fries right about now! :(

Crystal Palace was a bit crazy, but I bet it's great at an off-time. The food was delicious! The thing you don't know is qunioa with hearts of palm..:P my adventurous foods, you know. LOL.

I am sad to say that I have never eaten at Casey's. DO you recommend it?? My family is going in March for a bout a week, and we are looking for some CS to do. We are on the dining plan for the first time and in MK, we planned on doing Pecos Bill and Cosmic Rays, but I might be able to convince them to change over to Casey's. Based on your TR, you obviously love the place! ;) But, I was just wondring if you would rec it. We've been to Disney more than I can count, bu we never seem to stop in there. My brother just takes a picture with the baseballl guy right outside. That's it! :lmao: I don't know why, though.

Well, WELCOME :) I'm glad you're here. I know, I only go on a couple boards too. Actually, most of the time I just stick with my trip reports. They take a lot of time :rotfl: But they're so worth it.
And yes I know I've heard that reference... I just forget where it's from exactly
Aww yay now everybody's happy! And haha well, you have plenty of time to see if you like dining reviews or not! I'm sure, like trip reports, every one is different. So you'll know which kinds you like to read.
And yes, going once a year is SUPER lucky. I usually only go once or twice a year... but this year seemed to be different! I have no idea if these frequent trips will continue. But I love them a lot so I guess we'll just have to see :)
Yeah, I wasn't an AP holder till this year. It's only worth it in some cases. Just do the math, though. I think it only costs a little bit more than a 10 day pass. So if your'e going two or three times in a year - definitely a good investment!
I'm glad you're here and I hope you continue to enjoy!

I loved your trip reports and the dining review is great also.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you're here! :goodvibes

So could I. YUM I love them. I want a hot dog too.
Yeah... probably at like 5:00 it would be good. That's my guess. The food was really really good! I loved it. And LOL okay I'll add it in. Never heard of it. :rotfl:

I recommend it! They don't have a lot of options... it's basically hot dogs and corn dog nuggets. Although, they do have specialty hot dogs now, too! So just make sure your family is in the mood for a hot dog! Pecos Bill and Cosmic Rays are great too, though. So you really can't go long :)

I know what you mean. I've experimented on a few other boards, but don't really feel a "connection." Haha. That sounded sooo cliche. :goodvibes

And..the movie is Tarzan. Turk says it. :) I guess I can excuse you for forgetting this ONE time.
Yep! Everybody's happy! The world is at peace. So far...I LOVE yours, at least.

I would give ANYTHING to be in your Disneyfied shoes. I only hope that for my high school graduation, IIIII can go with a couple of my friends. That looked like y'all had sooooo much fun!! My. Dream. Trip. I just have to find some Disney obsessed friends first who would enjoy it as much as I would.;) Now, THERE's a challenge!!

I gotcha. When I'm older, and I can actually transport mself, I might get an AP. Just depends.

Keep up the great work!!

Oh...okay!! Thanks! My family isn't TOO big on hot dogs, but it still sounds cool. However, we are on DP, so we were gonna go for the more expensive CS o make the best of our money. But, it sounds like a GREAT idea for another trip, maybe.

Aloha Isle
January 16th, 2011

dsc05339e.jpg

I bet you can all guess what we got here.....

Dole Whip Float:

dsc05340y.jpg

Of course we got a Dole Whip! Who can go to Disney 5 times in one year and NOT have one of these?! The DisneyCPInterns Twitter account tweeted that "Dole Whips from Magic Kingdom are low calorie non-dairy, fat free, cholesterol free, gluten free and kosher treats." That is AWESOME.

I do love Dole Whips, especially the float. They are not my favorite food, because I can only handle so much pineapple ice cream. However, having them once in a while is really great. Sharing one is also a good idea, in my opinion. The juice at the bottom is SO good. Yum, yum, yum!

Kristen and I got this Dole Whip Float during Extra Magic Hours, so that means Aloha Isle is open very late at night! It was very enjoyable, and... I wish I could have one right now! It just looks so refreshing.

Chocolate Croissant:

dsc05381yn.jpg

Our other late night snack before Extra Magic Hours ended was a Chocolate Croissant! This was beautiful. The pastry part was nice and flaky, and it had the ideal "croissant" texture. I never had a chocolate one before, so this was a great first experience! It was also a very light snack (especially because we split it) and it was the perfect sweet treat to have before we went home and went to sleep.

Writer's Stop

Carrot Cake Cookie:

dsc05400wa.jpg

A lot of people don't know about this little spot, but the Writer's Stop is one of my most favorite hidden gems in all of Walt Disney World! It is like the Starbucks/Panera Bread of Hollywood Studios. It has a ton of baked goods and coffee. Then in the sitting area there are books and interesting things to read/look at. It's such a unique little place!

As far as the Carrot Cake Cookie.... YUM! Like... wow. The "cookie" part definitely tastes more like a cake than a cookie. It is soft and moist. The filling in the middle is cream cheese frosting, which is the absolute perfect flavor in this scenario. If you like carrot cake, you would LOVE this. It is definitely a dis-favorite. Such a good recommendation :thumbsup2

Yup I know what you mean!
Ahhh Tarzan. That would explain it. I haven't watched that movie since I was 5. It made me too sad :rotfl: I'm gonna have to watch it sometime soon, though.
Haha it is hard to find Disney obsessed friends. But if you do go on a friend's trip, I would definitely try to bring along people who sort of "get it" and are ready to embrace the magic. It makes the experience SO much better. I hope you get to! :)
Yes! Or even if you just want an extra hot dog during the day to tide you over. Casey's would be the place to go! :thumbsup2

I LOVE dole whip !!!!!! (insert deer face here). my personal preference is the pineapple vanilla swril dole whip. it is the perfect blend of sweet and tangy. i always share mine as well.

i have never had the chocolate crossaint at the main street bakery before but i know it must be something i would enjoy because i LOVE chocolate crossaints!!!!! they are seriously great! i now think i need to try main streets crossaints, if only i could pull myself away from the chocolate chip cookies.

I actually am one of those people who has heard of writers shop. every trip i make sure i stop in there even if it is just to look around! i love your panera comparison (it really is like panera for DHS- i know kristen also calls earl of sandwhich disney panera because she called it that in her TR but i think they are both disney panera). when i was little we loved these huge rice krispie treats with a chocolate layer on top. i think they have stopped selling them :(. I actually have also tried the carrot cake cookie sandwhich before as well and definitely enjoyed it. it actually got me into enjoying carrot cake for a while.
