Hi! I'm looking to stay at the Beach Club or Yacht Club in February. My husband gets two weeks leave from Iraq and I want to plan a special trip for us (first trip to Disney)!

I'm looking for something a little quieter, and the proximity to Epcot and Studios is perfect for us. I'm afraid he'll be really cold and it'll be nice to be able to walk back to the resort and let him warm up.

Is there any difference between the Beach Club and Yacht Club? They look so similar to me. Can anyone suggest which would be better for us? I would love any advice you have!

Welcome, mmross! Thanks so much to you and your husband for his service. When my brother was in Iraq, he used some of his 2-week leave for a Disney trip. He grew up going to Disney, but it was a first trip for my sister-in-law. Via e-mail (and a few middle of the night calls from Iraq,) I helped him plan the entire trip. It was great fun to help him plan, but also made me really happy to know that he and my sister-in-law could look forward to their time at Disney while he was away.

My brother stayed at SOG for that trip, but if you are choosing between Yacht and Beach, I agree with nancyjvanwyk. Our family loves BC - it's our favorite - but we have spent some time over on the YC side. If you are looking for something a bit more quiet and good for adults, I would recommend YC! They share so many benefits - restaurants, Stormalong Bay, etc. - but it might be nice for you to have a slightly quieter environment and the guarantee of a full balcony.

Good luck with your planning!:)

Second, just IMHO, I think YC or YC CL would be what you two are looking for. Quiet, yet close enough to everything Epcot and Boardwalk. We call YC the "dark side" because of it's rich wood interiors. YC is a "convention" hotel and gets more of the adults visiting rather than the families. The BC is a bit brighter, more bustling with families and just a little busier with Market Place and the restaurants right there off the lobby. BC saves you two minutes walking time to Epcot's IG while YC is closer to the boat dock taking you to DHS. Either way, you really can't go wrong. Have fun planning and even more fun in February.

I just got back from my 1st stay at the Yacht club and for 2 adults I would pick it over the beach club as the lobby area and hallways etc are a little quieter as far as lots and lots of kids running around. The pool is fabulous and there is also a quiet pool area with hot tub. I liked it so much I have already booked Yacht club for next year. the rooms were very nice and the entire place is just elegant. It is a short walk to epcot which was very nice and also to be able to walk over to the boardwalk. Short boat ride or long walk to Disney studios. Hope this helps have a wonderful time.

Thank you so much for your suggestions! This is exactly what I was looking for and is so helpful to me. It's great to hear first hand reviews of the resort and makes me feel much better about our decision to plan a trip to Disney when my husband comes home! I'm really looking forward to our trip and think Yacht Club would be a perfect fit.

Did you try Shades of Green. I think they have specials for R&R. I have not stayed there, always full, but I have heard good things about it.

Yes, thank you! I looked at Shades of Green and heard good reviews of it as well. It's a nice resort, but I just felt the location of the Beach/Yacht Clubs was a better fit for us as we plan to be in Epcot a lot!

Be sure to ask for Military Discounts! They have been awesome!!!

Leaving tomorrow for 9 nts at BC! I've been lurking this thread for info but just had to share my excitement. We've stayed @BC once before for 3 nights. This time we're traveling with another family and I anticipate a great time. They've stayed at the Poly on a previous trip, but I think the BC location and pool will knock their socks off! :worship:

We are booked thru a conference (ADA), so I'm not sure what our chances of any sort of upgrade are. But I'll be happy if they fulfill our request for connecting rooms! Praying for some full-balcony pixie dust... :wizard:

It's my first time to the World in October...so excited for F&W and MNSSHP! Yeehaw! Guess I should pack! :rolleyes1

Wow, we are only 44 days away from our trip! Time has flown very quickly. Grandsons still don't know about the trip! I can't wait to see their faces!
:cool1:

Anyway, my question is this, do the areas for coffee refills (not CL) have half and half? I plan to bring my own coffee because I can't do Nescafe, but I wanted to know if I need to buy half and half.

Thanks!

Thanks to all for the great information. We looked around the BC and YC on our last trip and planned on staying at the BC in 2012.

Just got everything lined out for a brothers trip next summer with our kids. My girls have been quite a few times, but this will be my nephew's first trip and my brother has not been in over 10 years. Mom's are staying behind as late June is not their thing with the heat. Does not bother us and the kids and we can roll with the summertime Mickey! Myself and daughters will be coming in from Saudi and it will feel very tropical to us in FL as it hits the 130's here in June

So I am excited about DLP and following up 2 months later with an unexpected WDW brothers and kids trip. Hoping Yacht Club will meet expectations. I believe it will.

Time to work on planning schedules!

I remember when my DH came home from deployment for R&R and it was such a wonderful time. I hope you have a wonderful vacation!

I just got back from the YC and had a fabulous time! If I were you I would pick the YC. It seems more elegant, but not a stuffy or snobby feeling. The walk to Epcot was short and the boat launch was right there. I loved the pool! It has three nice hot tubs and two have a secluded feeling.

When you call to make your reservations be sure to tell them you are celebrating your husband coming home from Iraq for a couple of weeks, they might give you a nice upgrade!

A long time ago, I lived in Saudi for a few years. I miss the food there. I loved the Shawarmas!

I hope you have a great time.

Shawarmas are still great! (like a big bbq chicken soft burrito for those that don't know)
I was not expecting that great of food before coming over here and it turned out to be exactly opposite! The food is great! Plenty of carbs and spice, so you have to watch it or your shorts will get tight over night!

No Dole Whips or Mickey Bars here though

They did have coffee creamers in the coffee refill area, but I am not sure if it was half and half or a non dairy. Have a wonderful time.

We will be in the world Oct 21 - 23 - just a quick trip to use our GAD passes. Anyway - this is our first and only stay on property. We have reservations for a standard room at the YC. I LOVE the pics of the BC but we chose the YC versus the BC because of the balconies. Anyway - should I make any special requests as far as room location? Also - one of my boys is a very active sleeper so I am hoping for a daybed or roll-away. Any suggestions are appreciated!

I was just there and if you are going to be using SAB alot then ask to be close to lobby area. My mom and sis were also there and they had a daybed in their room ( we did not ask for it) I had a little club chair in my room but no daybed, so perhaps you should request the daybed as they dont all have them. I hope you have a great time and fabulous weather.

I am just back from my first stay at the Yacht club. I LOVED it. I have previously stayed at POR, WL and AKL. Well I have already booked the Yacht club for next Sept to take advantage of free dining again.
The only thing my mom kept saying was this is so elegant. Staff was wonderful. Room was beautiful. The mousekeeping could not have been any better. Check in was great. I had checked in with a room only on Saturday and then my vacation pkg started on Sunday. I realized that I should check and see if I could keep the same room for the entire stay since they were different reservations. I went to the front desk and the nice young lady told me that she had already taken care of that so just go ahead an unpack.
We had the character breakfast at the Cape May and had a most delightful server named Dorothy. The characters all came over for pictures and autographs. I really enjoyed this breakfast much more than the one at Ohana. The food was very good, everything was hot and tasty. We had the seafood buffet on the 1st evening in and enjoyed it so much we ate there 2 more times. We also had breakfast at the Captains Grill and a dinner there as well. We had crab cakes which were very good and my sis had the mahi mahi which was the market fish. She said she liked it very much.
We used the quiet pool area more than SAB, but it was nice to sit on the porch and watch all of the folks in SAB having a good time and to see the kids---both large and small coming down the fabulous slide.
I just don't have a bad thing to say about the entire experience at the Yacht club.

DW, DD (2) and I are heading to BCV October 23rd - who else is planning trips for this month?

SO EXCITED!! DD will get to meet Winnie the Pooh (her favourite) as well as Mickey and the gang. Hope she doesn't cry when she finds out Winnie is 6 feet tall!!!!

LOL:rotfl2:

I'm away for a couple of days- short trip to Washington DC. Everyone have a GREAT weekend!!!

Thank you! The comments here have convinced me that YC would be a great fit for us. It's wonderful to hear such great first hand reviews. I wouldn't have been able to decide without all the suggestions! February seems so far off, but I'm really getting excited!

Dee - have a great trip! I love D.C. We used to go down there all the time when ds was in college. He went to American University so we got to go at least 2-3 times a year for four years! I missed it so much when he graduated.

Just returned....had a fabulous time at YC CL for 3 nights before moving to AKV...this was the perfect place to stay for the Wine&Dine Half!
All the excitement with Team in Training there...SAB was wonderful with the best weather I have ever enjoyed while at Disney.
Made it so nice after the race to walk home:)
Will post some pics later....our room had the BIGGEST balcony...I kid you not. We shared it with 3 other rooms, but never saw anyone else to the last day...had the whole place to ourselves!
You can see it when you arrive at the front entrance of YC....it really should be the YC CL balcony! lol
Cast members were great....loved the lounge , met 3 of the moms from the Mom's Panel...enjoyed conversation with them a few times....and just loved the convenience of having the lounge for this trip..especially for pre race eating for me! Although I didnt indulge in the alcohol offerings:( The chocolate milk was great SUnday morning!
It was also great for me because the end of the race we went by YC/BC and since I love this spot so much, gave me the extra energy I needed to finish off the race faster than I ever thought I would!!!!
And Teena..Richard says "HI!"...;)

Hi, just Checked in to Yacht Club this morning. Room was ready upon arrival at 10am rm 5185 had a king bed and daybed and a view of the lighthouse...DD 25 said uh I'm not sleeping with you so we were moved to 5237 two queens and a daybed far from the elevator but the view is amazing! We overlook SAB, Boardwalk and can see Eifel Tower. The weather is amazing! If I can answer anyones questions while I'm here let me know. Can't wait to meet you on Sunday Teena!
