2010 Mom's Panel Results along with lists of Round 2 & 3 Participants

OK. Now that I got that out....

The questions weren't hard. It was nice to finallly get to talk to everyone. Altho' it was hard b/c everyone was on speaker phone...I felt like I was doing a monologue (I think I said that...).

It just wasn't what I was expecting. It felt very...forced...you know, on my part.

Anyway, we'll see what happens. Only a FULL week for me to kick myself, right? Now, I'm off to read the posts over the past few days...

:)

Hey Amanda! Keep your chin up and keep dreaming big. You just never know...they might just pick you! :-) My Mom's Panel Phone Interview is tomorrow afternoon (Nov. 4th). This whole 2010 Mom's Panel Search has been amazing! I have met and connected with some amazing Disney People. I do not have a lot of extra time to dive deep into the Disboards but I do Twitter quite a lot @marcmantoo and I am also on Facebook. I am a single Father with an 11 year old son (actually he will be 12 on Thursday Nov. 5th) and I work a full time job but I am extremely passionate about Disney. Everytime I go to Disney I fall more and more in love with it! I would like to thank everyone on the Disboards for their support and well wishes towards me! I would love nothing more than to be on the Mom's Panel and represent all of the wonderful Disney Dad's (and Mom's too) out there who love their Families and Disney!
Thanks again!
Dream Big!
Marc Lorenzo

My interview is done! It was great talking to everyone on the phone, I think I let my nerves get the better of me. I said everything I wanted to say for the most part but I sounded almost out of breath talking because of the nerves! I hope they can see past that! :scared1:

Best of luck to all the other finalists!! pixiedust: :goodvibes :cheer2:

I'm sure they recognize that you moms are nervous. If you said everything you wanted to say, you're going to be just fine!

My interview is done as well, so now the waiting begins . . . .

Thanks so much everyone for the good wishes and pixie dust today. I am so touched by everyone's kind words. I know I'm so fortunate to have gotten this far in the process; I hope I don't let my fellow disboarders down!

Yeah, your interview is over. Just remember us 'little people' when you hit the big time!:goodvibes

I have to let you know that I've made the very heartbreaking decision to withdraw from the Moms Panel interviews, due to unforeseen family circumstances - school stuff, big exams - the last date of which now clashes with the training dates. I simply cannot leave my son Sam (11) to deal with that without me, and being so far from home it would be impossible to get back home in time. Very difficult to give up a dream, but in another way a simple decision as Sam has to come first. Just thought I should let you know.

Sue :sad2:

Wow. I'm sorry for you. There were folks on here who said they made round 1 or 2 in the past ... so maybe next year will be your year.

I felt so stupid. It was like doing a monologue...you knwo? No one was talking back. *shudder* I still feel kinda yucky about it...I don't even know what I said!

a

I'm sure they just wanted to listen to you. The interview was rather short, right? (15 minutes) so they really wanted to hear from you.

Try not to 2nd guess yourself ... as I stated above, I'm sure they recognize that all of you are very nervous and are looking beyond the nerves.

I am so sorry, I have been busy with work "stuff" and unable to get online for my usual Noon "Disney Time". I really have missed everyone and I feel so far behind. I will try to catch up! It is still Tuesday in Indiana! :)

"Introduce your family, your likes, dislikes, jobs, or whatever you want to talk about. Then we can all ask you a few questions and you can spend the day answering us."

I am DisneySunflower (Dannee N.) and I love all things Disney! I also love Sunflowers, hence the name. Anywho, my husband and I began dating in High School and will be married 13 years in December. We have 3 wonderful children, 12 year old daughter, 8 year old daughter, and 4 year old son. I am a physician at an underserved clinic on the Westside of Indianapolis. I am a Girl Scout Leader for my 8 year old's troop and an Assistant Leader for my 12 year old's troop. I am currently planning a Disney Cruise for the families of my children's schools - November 2010. We have Disney trips planned through March 2011 and I eagerly await my 7 month booking opportunity to guarantee the trip.

Umm, let's see.... Oh, I know. My husband and I traveled to the World alone last year and enjoyed a romantic Couples vacation. Well, I actually was there for work, but we definitely made the most of it! We stayed at the Grand Floridian. Couples massage, Golfing, Carriage Ride, Parks, Downtown Disney, and Great Food! We called our kids daily and rubbed it in, they could not believe we went without them! :rotfl:

I hosted a Moms Club In Home Celebration and several neighbors, Moms from my kid's school and Disney lovers attended. We had a blast. I really enjoyed discussing Disney with the Moms and I believe I have been hooked every since.

I hope this was a good start. I can't wait to answer questions, if there are any? :goodvibes

Good Morning all and thank you Suzannah for being our 'victim' of the day!:rotfl:
Kathie I am sorry you only got a half day so anyone who did not get a question in for Kathie, feel free to ask away too!

Today is Day 9 in the countdown to Reveal day!

Todays general question is:

What are your favorite off day or out of park day activities?

My Suzannah question is if you could have a day for just you and your mother, of course in the parks, what would you plan to do?

I would definitely say that Disney Golf is my favorite out of park day activity! :woohoo:

What do you do on Vacation in Disney World that you would never do in real life?

I agree with so many of the other posts, I let the kids stay up until they pass out from exhaustion and then I wake them up very early and do it all again!

What one souvenir(s) do you bring home from every trip?

I bring home postcards - one from the resort and one from each park we visited.

I bring home scrapbooking items - books, stickers, punches, paper, etc.

I bring home the T-shirt with the year for each family member (although, only the kid's shirts match)

I bring home several Disney pins, and as of lately, this includes a DVC pin.

And most importantly, memories! :flower:

My special question for Dannee is what is your favorite piece of Disney music? You know the one that brings a silly smile on your face.

Okay, so at this point, I feel even worst for my work drama and absenteeism here! I think I will cry. :guilty:

My favorite piece of Disney Music is "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious". It immediately reminds me of a Disney favorite - "Mary Poppins" and I think about the happiness of chalk drawings. This leads to my thoughts of hop scotch as a child. That causes me to remember climbing trees and playing pots and pans with the maple tree seeds. This causes me to recollect the tea scene in Mary Poppins when they are floating in the air. Then I start laughing at the joke about a man with a wooden leg named Smith.... :lmao:

Just wanted to send good wishes to everyone, I hope all your interviews will go well/have gone well. :thumbsup2

It's going to be a very tough decision to choose the final panel, from what I've seen here, you all deserve it. :)

For you Sue,

:grouphug: to all the Round Three-ers that have completed their interviews.

pixiedust: for those with interviews yet to come.

:flower3: for all and Good night.

congrats/best wishes to all of you with yor interviews this week!! i hope you all make it!

*my favorite out of park activity would probably be shopping in DTD and mini golf. though, i do like resort hopping, especially during the holidays when all the special decor is out.
*i too get up way earlier on disney days than i do on normal days, and i NEVER hit the snooze button, not once.
*i always get a t-shirt and lots of pics... i'm not sure if there is one specific thing i have to have, usually i just want to get something with my favorite slogan of the trip, like in 2007 i HAD to have sweatshirt that said "where magic lives" on it, and this past trip it was the "four parks, one world" motto

I,m so so sorry you had to withdraw. Sam is a lucky kid to have such a good mum.

Thank you so much to everyone who has sent me such good wishes. It's much appreciated. :flower3:

More GOOD LUCK to all finalists who have interviews today.:thumbsup2

Relax and enjoy :)

Amanda, seallenz, is our person of the day today (Wednesday)? :yay:

Introduce your family, your likes, dislikes, jobs, or whatever you want to talk about. Then we can all ask you a few questions and you can spend the day answering us.

Today is Day 6 in the countdown to Reveal day!

Todays general question is:

What is your favorite piece of architecture in Disney?

My special question for Amanda is: What is the one snack that you must have on every trip?

Kathie, Suzannah, Kaylene, Marc, AmamdaGA, Dannee, or Sue. of you are welcome to answer too you know.

Dannee,
I completely understand that real life gets in the way sometimes! I am sorry that you felt bad about "catching up". I didn't mean to make you sad!
What is cool is the things we have in common. I love the same song you do and my real passion is medicine. I trained to be a midwife and have helped catch a couple hundred babies. :woohoo: We had a physician who did home deliveries in our area and I traveled with him to many a home. I later taught childbirth classes and have done some patient advocacy work with veterans.
DH and I got our private adult only vacation two years ago although one of our older kids did end up joining us for two days of it.:lmao: I can't wait to do it again!
Our DD, the one who joined us on our trip, almost has your name. We named her after a character and someone from Greek mythology. She was shown in the movie Clash of the Titians as this beautiful woman was was stepping out of a truck that had been thrown in the sea. She was also the mother of Perseus who later slew Medusa. That is Danae.
Our uncommon factor is golf. I grew up living on golf course and I have been around it all my life but the sport itself does nothing for me.

Best luck to Marc, Kaylene, and Kathie during their phone interview this afternoon and to anyone else who has yet to interview!

As for architecture in Disney I love the way they used forced perspective to make things look tall when they really are not. The classic example is Cindy's castle. The other place I love is in Animal Kingdom in Asia. I think it just looks all so very real and that makes it easy to pretend that I am really in Asia instead of Florida!

The only architectural feature that is not liked in our family is the pathways in Animal Kingdom. We have decided that they need to remake a right or left side of all the paths there for people in wheel chairs or scooters without shocks. This pathway need to be smooth. My poor mother hates the constant bump, bump, bump all day in AK!:upsidedow

Well, I guess today is my day to share! (I feel badly that Dannee didn't have much time to answer questions yesterday, so feel free to ask her some today too.)

I am Amanda from Raleigh, NC. I have lived in NC most of my life. My husband and I have been married for almost 15 years. We met in law school. (I've never mentioned to the Moms Panel judges that I'm an attorney and frankly, after my dismal performance in the interview yesterday, I'm sure they would be shocked to learn that!) We have two children: a son who'll turn 10 next Tuesday and a daughter age 7. I first went to Disney World as a young child in the early 1970s, and my family visited Disney once a year or so during my youth. My husband and I first took our son to Disney when he was one, and we became hooked. We've been once or twice a year since then; in 2009 we've been on two Disney cruises and made 3 visits to Disney World.

It's hard to pick a favorite resort -- I love the Animal Kingdom Lodge, the Beach Club, and the Grand Floridian. We often split our stays between different resorts because they all have qualities that I love, and it's hard to choose.

My favorite park is another tough choice: Magic Kingdom holds a special place in my heart because of all my childhood memories, but my husband and I really enjoy Epcot. I know so many people who skip Epcot when they're visiting Disney -- they don't know what they're missing!

I am really wishing I could have a "do over" for my interview yesterday. I really let my nerves get the best of me. I feel like I rambled incoherently and couldn't come up with answers to questions that I didn't anticipate. I'm really disappointed in myself. It's hard to come so close and then feel like you blew it. I wish I could have just relaxed and let the interviewers see the real me.

My special question for Amanda is: What is the one snack that you must have on every trip?

My favorite piece of architecture would have to be Cinderella's castle. I can still remember the thrill of seeing it in real life for the first time.

As far as a must-have snack, I tried a Dole Whip float for the first time on my last trip and really enjoyed it. Of course a Mickey bar is always good. But probably the "snack" I enjoy most frequently are the flavored frozen margaritas in Epcot at Mexico!:thumbsup2

Amanda please do not fret over your phone interview. Like others have already said, I bet you did just fine. Being an attorney I bet you have a gift for the gab anyway and your brain just went into normal function for you.:goodvibes;)
We will have to stay in touch and see if we can't have lunch together soon. I will be visiting the RDU area frequently and very soon! DD is a manager at a Store/restaurant on the airport loop road. When visiting her, I often sit at one of the tables playing on the internet and people watching. I would love to have lunch with you and talk Disney and learn about your new Panel training as I will be there right after you finish your training trip!:upsidedow

:) Hi Dannee!!! Now that I know you are a Physician, I  you in your Minnie costume even more!!! :) You must have brought a lot of smiles to your patients that day...and a smile is quite healing in itself ;) Thanks for introducing yourself and best of luck on your interview tomorrow
:grouphug: :)

Morning everyone! It's been nice getting to know all the finalists here! :) Very cool that we have a doctor AND a lawyer in our midst!

I think I've made peace with my horrible nerves yesterday...I mean, I could've said more, and said things *better* but I'm hoping they can look over my answers as a whole from the start maybe? I sort of dug myself in a hole with one answer, which I'll talk about later after everything's over. So far no one else has gotten that question as it was after the main questions, but I still don't want to reveal anything I shouldn't...I just felt really silly after the words escaped my mouth and I thought, 'wait...am I telling them I'm a person with horrible negative attributes?!' Hopefully they can see through that mess to what I was trying to say too. (It'll make more sense later, trust me! :P) Anyway, all I can do is breathe and keep moving forward, right?! If the dream ends here, I'll just keep dreaming it! :goodvibes

...

As for my favorite bit of architecture, it'd have to be Cinderella Castle as well. It's just the pinnacle of MAGIC and I think Disney realized that when they decided to build the dream suite in there! But really it's the whole picture. The castle by itself wouldn't mean as much if you couldn't see the beautiful carousel behind it spinning around, or look to your left or right at the other magical lands to explore...

Snack I must have each trip would have to be Dole Whip. If I'm not in Magic Kingdom I love the Rice Cream in Norway...really ice cream in any location is perfect for me! ;)

...

Best of luck to those with interviews today!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

What is your favorite piece of architecture in Disney?

A very good one indeed Ms Producer! Hehehehee...

That is in fact, probably my biggest interest at The World- the architecture! In general. All of it. I suppose if I had to chose one... hmmmm... I am torn... but, I think I would have to go with... the Contemp. The rest are in large part copies of other things (except for the easily dismissible Swan and Dolphin, the 'bubble gum pop' of the Disney buildings.) Oh! And there is Central Casting... that is unique and wonderful... and probably superior... ya, I will go with Central Casting!

Amen! Egads, that is a nightmare!!! Walking folk have no idea how rough and how steep Disney pathways can be! I had no idea till I was in the chair! It really is an interesting phenomenon!

:)
