If your paying $47 a night for the regular dining plan I wonder just how much most people would really be saving. I suppose if you ate at the very high end places you might could save a little, but other than that, whats the deal. Unless, they jack up the prices of all the resturants. Now thats a thought.
This is something I thought of as well. I am sure that by the New Year we will see a price increase, at least that's my opinion.
Right now with the places we plan to dine, after crunching numbers and looking at the least expensive items on the menu, adding everything up with tax, the basic
DDP would still save us money. And we are not likely to order those items (DH will definitely NOT order an onion tart as his entree at Captain's Grille, for example!). But, I also know that we are not spending 10 nights eating NY Strip steak, that is just unrealistic.
Quite a few of the places we are looking at are either a good or a great value on the DDP, but they are places we really want to try, DDP or not. They are Chefs de France dinner, Tutto Italia dinner (most likely), Whispering Canyon Cafe dinner for the skillet, Crystal Palace dinner, Biergarten dinner, Cape May Cafe dinner. We really want to go to these places, so I hope they are available. My concern is that with such a significant increase in the cost of the DDP, even more people will be trying to get into places like these, to get more bang for their buck.
Well, I will find all this out eventually, but not until April when I make my ADRs. Luckily I am a DVC member staying on points so I can add the dining plan up until 48 hours before check-in. We will probably wait until all our ADRs are in place to add the DDP. If I can't get enough good TS restaurants worth going to on the DDP and have to go to places off the DDP or off-site, we will not get it. I would not want to waste credits, especially TS ones. The QSDP is just too many CS meals for us, because we tend to do only one of these daily for lunch, a TS dinner, and either breakfast in the room or the occasional character breakfast for the kids (and us!).
But, interestingly, the DxDDP has not increased in price at all? Hmm...maybe Disney is trying to get people to buy that one since they would "save" up to 40% on their meals. Plus it would fill up the TS places.
