Was just looking back at our previous trips… all have been free dining for us but I kept track of the dining plan costs.

2010 to 2015:

Adult - $41.99 to $60.64, up 8% annually on average

Child - $10 to $19.23, up 10% annually on average

I really don’t like being the negative guy, but really, what the heck? U.S. food and beverage consumer price index has averaged only about a 2.3% annual increase during that time.

I don’t like calling Disney greedy, but I have a hard time not seeing this fit into that category. Perhaps they are just trying to limit demand by substantially increasing price, since many TS locations are booked solid all year... but averaging 6%+ above the food cost increase?

Sadly many hard working people are getting more and more priced out of an opportunity to visit WDW. I don’t know, this just struck me today when I was looking back at our previous trips. Let alone ticket price increases...

This is why so many people think the dining plan saves them money. It use to. It doesn't anymore, at least not for most people.

I think what really happened is that when they first offered it, they priced it pretty low to get people to buy it. You condition your customers to enjoy/need this dining plan, and then you have to begin to raise the price to the point where they are now. Most people only break even or save a few dollars, and I daresay, Disney is making more off those who buy the dining plans than they do those who don't. There are many here on the DIS who get the plan because they always have and can't imagine a trip without it. Others are just beginning to crunch the numbers to see if it really saves any money. Some of us figured out back in 2010 that it didn't really fit our families' style of eating, and that we can eat better for far less.
