2008, 24th/28th Aug - *Double Dipping with the Bahama Mamas* (Part 2)

Mandy - I am a regular shopper/return gal these days! I think I am all ready for the cruise - as far as clothes go, I have to go over the toiletries/medicines (I always have allergy meds, cough meds, etc - I don't want to have to go and buy that stuff on board!) But, I've been shopping away, mostly for the boys and Carm. My piles are made in the spare room, one for each of us! I could leave tomorrow and be ready (other than the fact that I have to iron) - but, I think I am pretty ahead of myself - w/that stuff at least... the FE stuff, that's another story!! I did start my picture project - FINALLY, collected them - so that is a start. I still need to organize the boxes, need to start that soon if I am going to ship it all to my sister ahead of time!

Sounds like you had a nice meal w/your friends! It's always nice to catch up w/adult conversation! :rotfl:

I did get some good stuff on our shopping trip~ Like I said in Mandy's reply - I think we are all done w/shopping! All I need to get is the FE stuff (LOL) - and beige-ish socks for the boys to wear w/the khakis!

I decided not to 'dress up' for dress up night. Just capris and a top. Carm will wear khakis and a polo shirt (a nicer one), and the boys will wear khakis and a button up shirt. Which is more dressy for them compared to the other nights. They are mostly wearing cargo-type shorts w/polos for dinner, other than pirate night. Ant wants to bring his Jack Sparrow costume, we'll see if it fits in the suitcases. But, I did get them each a pirate t-shirt to wear w/cargos to dinner w/pirate accessories - that'll probably be about it for them (and Carm and I too!)

Mandy - I tried IMing you last night - we had a power outage here - obviously same storms that were heading Diane's way hit here too! Anyway, I was actually around for sailaway, and couldnt' get on! But, I was actually hoping the power would be out a bit longer so I could work on my project! But, when my electric was back on, back to computer work I was~ Oh well!

Glad Paul is starting to sort! Carm started on Saturday - tossed most of it because it was TOO BIG (have I told you that I hate him?? LOL)

I leave 3 weeks from tomorrow..... It'll be here before you know it! The summer is flying by!

How is your mom doing?? How is your tan going??

Hey Laurie

It sounds like you're pretty much organised too, except for a few things. Paul cracks me up, he only packs a few things, as he is like the girls, he'll be buying new clothes hours after we have landed in Orlando. I wrote a list, so I know exactly what needs washing/ironing and packing over the next couple of weeks :thumbsup2

I love it when you see the boys all dressed up like Jack Sparrow, they look so cute and the photos are great if they get one taken with Jack Sparrow onboard pirate:

I can't believe how quick the time is passing by, I hope our Cruise doesn't go too quick. My holiday starts two weeks Friday night when we leave for the airport hotel - it really will be here before we know it :)

My mum is doing great thanks, she's just bored, but we are still hopeful that we will find a way to get her out of the house for an hour. My tan is coming along slowly but surely. It's so nice that Summer has finally arrived over here, but I'm just waiting to get to that Florida sunshine so I can sunbathe and jump in a pool too ::yes::

Enjoy the rest of your day, and don't work too hard :)

Hey Mandy -

That's right, you don't pack everything - you do a lot of shopping on vacation. How do you find room to pack it all on the way back???

I am not sure what to do about the Jack costume, I am trying to talk him out of it - but, we'll see who 'wins'.. LOL

WOW 2 weeks from Friday - that'll be here before you know it!!!

Glad to hear your mom is doing well!! And that the tan is coming along! LOL I look like casper the friendly ghost!!!

Good news for me, I am going into work today, working from home on Weds, and dropping off at work on Thursday, soooooooooooooooooooo -- I am excited about that! My cousin is baptizing his baby on Thursday night (which is a bit odd, but whatever) - so, I'll run up to work, drop off and head to the church w/the boys for 6pm - Carm is working, so he won't be able to go.. :sad1:

Where is everyone today???? I know my twin is working tonight... where are the rest of you guys?

Day 4 - Castaway Cay - Wednesday, August 27, 2008

Seahorse Catamaran Snorkel Adventure DIANE DD(8), DD (12), DD(16) 1:15-3:45
Castaway Ray's Stingray Adventure DIANE and DD(8) 9:00AM 10:00AM

Has any one shopped at Atlantis, Is there anything to buy for kids? My parents in law are taking my 8 year old and I think she will be bored stiff! I'd rather take her snorkling with me.

. Sat. we go to Cape Canaveral and are staying at the Country Inn, I think. Sunday we set sail :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: I hope everyone is having a nice weekend and I will try to stop by more often. Debi

We are staying at Coco Beach also, at the Holiday inn the rate is 91.00 AAA, I looked at Contry inn and I think it was $129.00 if you are interested. We stayed at this hotel last year and it is fine! They have a little restaraunt out at the beach that has fried dill pickles, they are so good!!!

How are you getting to the ship? I can Pay the Holiday inn $50.00 for 4 transfer and free parking at the hotel, but the guy at the front desk gave me the name of the company and he thinks it is only 4-5.00 per person so with 3 of us both ways we will save and he said it would not be an issue to leave the car in their lot.

I know we will have a ton of junk to schlep, I have to bring my laptop for work on the way down and back so I will have to take it onto the ship, don't want to check it, but also don't want to carry it all afternoon on Sunday!!:sad2:

Danielle, If you are still worried about Making the right decision, why don't you call CHOP Children's Hosp. of Phila or AI Dupont in DE and see if they can do a phone consult with you and your Dr. AI Dupont was amazing when we had Becca there for her appendix and I have a friend who's 7 year old has a nasty form of cancer and she has been treated by both.

Mandy, I know you got back to me and some one else did, but I can't remember. Niki just needs to know if it is 4 or 5 girls. She is making necklaces. I don't know where you get the time to stay on top of all this, I ffel like I don't have time to breathe!!:(

Hey Laurie, I think Michele would pass out if she realised how little we bring with us :rotfl2: :rotfl2: We bring 4 suitcases with us, and one of the suitcases is inside another one. So basically we have a suitcase inside a suitcase with the girls clothes in, one suitcase with our stuff and one case will have the toiletries and FE stuff in. When we go home we will have 4 cases full of clothes and gifts :)

That's good that you're not having to work everyday this week. Is there a party after the baptism ? Have fun with your family

It has been quiet around here, everyone must be enjoying the nice weather. Hopefully I'll catch up with you later :thumbsup2

Good Morning Bahama Mama's

It poured with rain during the night, so it feels nice and fresh here this morning.

Nothing exciting going on over here today. I've got some shopping to do for my mum, and then I'll be popping round to see her later this morning

Have a lovely day whatever you're doing, catch you later :)

Diane - your plans seem to be falling into place nicely! We booked a glass bottom boat thing, and we are thinking of doing the stingrays - we talked about it a while ago, and then never made a decision.. .I guess NOW would be the time to do that, huh?

We paid $139 for country inn and they drive us over to the port, keep our car, and drive us back and it's included in the price. My cousin's stayed there last year, said it was nice/new/clean - so, we are going for that!

I am with you and dragging the stuff - I have always been at the mercy of the Disney transport, so, we've never arrived at port too early - our room has usually been ready - this time I hope to be there REALLY early!!!!

Mandy - you make it sound so easy!!! Packing it all, buying more, extra suitcases - (which we do too!! LOL) - I think we'll have 4 suitcases to check, plus the garment bag... then we'll have a few wheeled carry-ons that we will drag around, and I have 2 duffle bags w/wheels that I can roll up and put in one of the big suitcases..

Did I tell you I bought NEW luggage? LOL Had to get the luggage w/those 360 wheels - SOOO cool! I really didn't need new luggage, but HAD to have it!!

We are all going to dinner after the church on Thursday - it is a very small gathering, so, they made a reservation at an Italian place, so, it should be nice!

The weather here today is supposed to be nice - but they are calling for a heat advisory for tomorrow, supposed to be over 100 w/the heat index.. UGHHHHHHHHH I'll be in my nice air conditioned house!!!

I'll be working today, HOPING to check in w/you guys - so Mandy, after your shopping 'adventure' w/your mom, maybe I'll catch ya online for a chat!

It has been super quiet - TWIN - where are you?????

I can't believe I am all caught up!! :yay:

Have a good day everyone!
Laurie

Good morning all!

I'm so sorry I haven't been around. Between the basement flooding again and trying to get it all dried out and all the free dining travel documents starting to roll in, I've been pretty nuts. Baseball camp started this week for Ian. He seems to love it. Still no job for Tori:sad2: She's not going to have any spending $ for vacation. I'm hoping to take her this week to take her test for her driving permit. :scared1: Teaching her to drive will be Christopher's job.

Mandy- I hope you can talk your mum into going out for a bit. I'm sure she would enjoy a roll around :)

Laurie- It was nice talking yesterday. Sorry I had to go so quickly. I've heard that the Country Inn is nice. Enjoy your night there:)

Michele- Where are you? I can't believe you canceled your Dr appt.:sad2: Hope you are feeling better.

Diane- Your plans sound good. We are just taking it easy at CC. I think we are going to go walk around Atlantis, not sure though.

Jen- Where's the countdown? Hope packing is going well and I wish you lots of luck in Boston.

Suzanne- We drove through SYR again Saturday and Sunday - I drove 3 hours for a hot shower:rotfl:

Danielle- for Keegan. I hope the doctors can agree soon so you can get that off your mind.

Hi to everyone else - sorry I can't catch up completely. Work is calling........

Hi Laurie, how cool to get some new luggage. Ours is a bit tattered, but our way of thinking is that we hope it would put a thief off from stealing them :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Mmm, I love Italian food, it's my fave (that's why I love Palo too), lucky you, enjoy your meal on Thursday

I'm back from an uneventful morning at my mum's, I'm just waiting for a phone call from Paul to find out if he needs me to run an errand for him

Morning Sandy, was the flooding as bad as last time ? I hope not. Has it dried up yet ?

Talking of documents, I 'Wonder' when we'll start receiving our Cruise labels ? and who'll get them first. I always get excited when I see the UPS van pull up outside :thumbsup2

:wizard: Good Luck to Tori with her test for her driving permit. Paul teaches Kerry to drive as I'm a bit of a nervous passenger ;)

Wow, you guys are quiet today! I hope that means everyone's outside enjoying themselves. It's a nice day but pretty muggy. We have storms in the forecast for a few days.

We did get Keegan in at Hopkins tomorrow morning for his next CT. He started the prednisone this morning and felt pretty sick after taking it, but I'm sure that's because he chewed it to pieces instead of swallowing it. He's never had pills that werent' chewable or liquid medicine before. The head of radiology said to smash it up, but he wanted it in halfs in yogurt thinking he could swallow smaller pieces.

We had a busy night last night with a new baseball tournament starting. Tonight the boys both have football practice and we are back to baseball tomorrow night---football thursday---baseball Friday. Keegan has a baseball camp all next week at the Cal Ripken baseball complex in Aberdeen, MD (an hour and a half drive each way) and will miss his baseball games next week. They have a final tournament in Palmrya on August 9/10 and we are done!!! Well, except for football but at least we won't have any games/traveling for sports until after the cruise.

Laurie, congrats on the new luggage. We each have rolling duffle bags and one garment bag. Ours doesn't have fancy wheels though! Our little carry on one with wheels is such a pain to roll, I carry it half the time. I'll have to check out the kind that spin 360 degrees.

Sandy, sorry about your basement. We'd be in serious trouble if our's flooded we've got so much junk down there and all my scrapbook stuff/family pictures. My friend in the neighborhood just got back from vacationing in Florida for 2 weeks and one of their hot water pipes broke, flooding their 1st level and basement with over a foot of water. They have to replace all their furniture, dry wall and even the kitchen cabinets. I have another friend (Kim K.) interested in getting a 3 day Wonder quote for next June and I gave her your name/company name so you might be hearing from her soon.

Jen, good luck in Boston and Toronto. Have you seen some improvements with the OT that Em is getting?

Diane, thanks for the information on the doctors. I spoke to a couple of close friends in the medical field and they agreed I should go with what the doctor's at Hopkins are suggesting. It's just scary/mind boggling to have it all come up at once again when I seriously thought the mass would entirely be gone by now. To look at him you think he's the epitome of health and to know there could be something in there life threatening is terrifying.

Michele, I hope you are feeling better.

Heather, I'm glad you can sit back and relax now with your wedding plans all a- go.

Mandy, I hope you are having a great day and you were able to get some sun yesterday.

Hello to everyone else!

Thanks so much for the referral. We are very lucky that we store nothing at all in our basement. The only things down there are the furnace and hot water heater. The furnace is up on a raised cement platform so no worries there but the water heater is on the floor and when it gets wet it takes forever to dry out. So cold showers all around for the Myers family. :scared1:

Glad Keegan is getting his scan. Hope that everything is just fine. I do know first hand that feeling of relief when you find out everything is fine. We've had a couple scares w/ Ian over the last year.

We did get Keegan in at Hopkins tomorrow morning for his next CT. He started the prednisone this morning and felt pretty sick after taking it, but I'm sure that's becuase he chewed it to pieces instead of swollowing it. He's never had pills that werent' chewable or liquid medicine before. The head of radiology said to smash it up, but he wanted it in halfs in yogurt thinking he could swallow smaller pieces.

When I take predinsone,my hands shake and I can't sit still, so don't be surprised if her is hyper.

Good luck with everything!:grouphug: I Googled what you said he may have and what little I read said that for older kids the surgery was pretty uneventful and all the kids healed well from it. Of course any surgery is scary, Becca had her appendix out and that is about as basic as it gets, but I worried for 6 weeks leading up to it and cried as they wheeled her back...she was fine!! Just sick to her stomach from the anesthesia. Hopkins is one of the best hospitals in the world, so take comfort in the fact that he is in the best hands possible, not some back woods place in who knows where.
Let us know as soon as you find out anything!!

diane

Thanks for the information, Diane. He's at a friend's house right now so I hope he's not too hyper!! He's generally extremely shy and mellow so it would actually be funny to see (for a little while).

That's great to hear about the surgeries being successful and uneventful. I was googling dozens of articles and reports and shouldn't have been focusing on any of the negatives because that stuff really freaked me out. I keep reminding myself that some people can go their whole lives with a bronchogenic cyst and never even know it. Heck, Keegan's 11 now and if he does have it, he just started having issues at 10. I just wonder if he's ever really had asthma or if it's been this all along. The pediatric oncologist thought with his tonsils/symptoms he had it, but I'd love to have him see a pulmonary doctor to rule it out/confirm it. Two Hopkins doctors did tell us if he does have the bronchgenic cyst, once it gets infected, it can happen quicker and gets worse. They are grasping at straws themselves though because it's such a rare condition. I read that some doctors go their entire career without seeing it. I have resolved that it is what it is, there's nothing I can do about it. Just support him and do whatever the doctor's suggest (within reason). I just want him to be 100% healthy and we'll get him there. I don't have the overly optimistic gut instinct I had last week when I thought we'd get the all -clear, but I'm still very hopeful they'll say he doesn't have it and he's back to normal.

Sandy, thanks for the hugs/wishes. I hope Ian's doing fine too.

Danielle,

I know of a lady around here who's now 7 year old daughter was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at 4, the child had surgery, several rounds of chemo, radiation, and a stem cell transplant. She went for almost 2.5 years with no evidence of the cancer, but now it is back and it is in her skull, they have started chemo again, but her prognosis is poor. The mother posted something on Caring Bridge the other day that people ask her how she does it and isn't she sad, but she replied that her daughter Lexi lives every moment to the fullest and in turn their family lives for every moment where the rest of us go through our lives worrying, stressing, waiting for something to happen and not really taking it all in and enjoying it. I was very moved by that and when stupid stuff is stressing me out and getting me down, I try to remember Lexi and find a little joy in every moment, because really none of us really knows how long we have. Hope for the best, deal with the rest!

Afternoon Ladies, Just got back from getting my spiral perm done..woohoo. Nicole is getting hers highlighted and dyed blue in the front now. Luckily my friend is a hauirdresser and she cuts me a break or this would be costing me a small fortune..lol.

Hi everyone sorry i have been a little MIA but you know how it goes, games, practices, tournaments, etc:sad2: I have also been trying to cut back on my computer time! I wanted to post a picture of the countdown the kids made. Too cute, we are getting pretty excited here!!:cool1:

Hi All

You all seem very busy . with packing and sports, Dr Appt Etc. I always tell folks it was a lot easier with a full time job and no kids. Then a part time job with kids and even harder as a SAH MOM:rotfl: .

Jen and Danielle - All the best. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families. Remember a positive attitude and faith are powerful forces!!

Diane- Looks like you have a very busy itinerary. Hope you have a blast.
We have a few more laid back plans. Snorkeling and biking on CC and we have not decided what to do on Nassau Day.

I just noticed we have a Betty and Veronica( Do we also have an Archie and Jughead( or am I showing my age?)

Heather- Have a relaxing and fun few weeks ahead before the Wedding:bride:

The weather should be warm here for the next few days, but there is always a chance for a Thundershower. My Boss starts his vacation on Friday, so my office is closed for the next 2 weeks. I just have to go in for about an hour a day and pick up the phone calls and do some odds and ends. Sometimes I can even do that from home. So if the Weather is nice Saturday I hope to go swimming at the lake and try to get some sun so I do not burn in Florida.

Hope you all have a great week

Mary Ellen
