The 2006 schedule came out about Oct of 2004, so if they do it the same I would guess Oct 2005. Hopefully in 2007 they will have at least one additional ship joining the fleet!!!

Thanks for the information, it is greatly appreciated. I heard that they may have a new ship out in 2007 - can not wait. We want to start planning our 7 day cruise.

The 2006 rates came out on September 30th. The new cruise ship has been designed, but it hasn't been given the go ahead to be built. This decision is primarily based on the exchange of euros to dollars being to high so DCL is waiting for the rate to be more economical. Once the do give the go ahead the ship will take approximately two years to build so I wouldn't expect a new ship to be read to sail in 2007 unless a decision to build was made right away.

I sure wish they had a new ship in 2007. But according to my pal at DCL is they started the building process very soon they it would be ready later 2007 or early 2008. He says expect maybe some kind of announcement this summer but isnt guanteeing new ship or anything.

This summer is a possiblity, my gut feeling is they will make a major announcement on July 16, 2005.

The reason I pick that exact date is for one very important reason. Back on May 5, 2005 Disneyland and DCL announced the 50th anniversary celebration and DCL moving the Magic to the west coast for the summer of 2005. So what you ask?

While the Magic is on the west coast it will be sailing only 7 day intineraries out of Los Angeles. Again...so?

Out of all the days the Magic will be on the west coast only one of those days, July 16th, it will not be part of any cruise. This omission is very conspicuous by its absence. The Magic will be parked in L.A. for a celebration/party the day before the exact date of the 50th anniversary July 17th (the park opened July 17, 1955). Something is going on or they would have let the Magic go on its regularly scheduled 7 day cruise like all the rest in the summer of '05.

My gut feeling is that DCL will announce a new ship (rumored to be called "THE DREAM") which will sail out of Port Canaveral and then the Magic will take up permenant residence on the west coast when THE DREAM is ready to set sail.

Guessing the same thing Buddy Bear. The person who I know at DCL who I use to post his name, I then realized I shouldnt so I am not posting it. Anyways he says the new ship will take over magic and magic will be slightly modified and sent out west. I am hoping somthing happesn this summer. We will have to go on the madien voyage when ever it is!

The schedule for summer 2005 was announced in May 2004. Jim Hill also published the theory that the extra night in the Port of Los Angeles was purposely planned to allow DCL to announce a new ship at a press event that night.

There are several things wrong with that theory.

First, this theory is based on the premise that there is contract with a shipyard for a new ship, but that the announcement would be held off for over a year until the eve of Disneyand's 50th anniversary. However, public corporations can't hide half billion dollar business commitments from their shareholders and from the government.

Also, please consider that companies hold big press events to get free publicity for things that will make money. Timing is a key issue. For example, the big publicity efforts for movies take place in the months and weeks just prior to a movie's release -- not when filming starts (when there's seldom more than a simple, brief press release). In May 2004, DCL announced the Disney Magic's Panama Canal and California cruises -- and began accepting bookings immediately. But why would DCL have a huge, expensive press event for a new ship that won't accept bookings until well in the future?

There's a much simpler, more plausible explanation for the Magic's night in port. Disney can use the ship as a floating hotel for one night, to house the visiting press invited to Disneyland's 50th anniversary. That's much better than being unable to book familes into rooms at the Disneyland Resort that week because one night is unavailable. And there's the added bonus of drawing attention to DCL.

I hope DCL will announce a fleet expansion within a year or two, but I'm not going to hold my breath on July 16. Actually, I'm hoping for a billion dollar contract for two new 90,000 GRT ships -- but I might have to wait longer based on the value of the US Dollar compared to the Euro.

According to some Disney management types the Magic will be used as a floating hotel July 16, 2005 for the hoardes of media that they want present July 17 in DL for "the" party ... there will not be a hotel room in sight available on July 16, and no way Disney is going to allot hotel rooms to media when they can use them for (premium) paying guests ... so, the Magic becomes a "posh" overnight floating hotel for their temporary needs.

It would be nice for them to time an announcement that they "intend" to build a 3rd ship so they can have cruises out of CA ... doubt they'll have a set date for said ship to be christened, or where it'll sail (i.e. Caribbean versus West Coast; Mexico versus Alaska, etc.).

There have been numerous times over the past few years when various Disney executives, including Michael Eisner, have spoken about an expanded DCL fleet. So they already said that they "intend" to expand -- but it's all just talk until there's an firm order with a shipyard.

The July 16th speculation has been around for awhile. The success and demand for DCL is well established. The desire to expand the fleet has been expressed publicly. It is a Euro vs. Dollar exchange rate matter now, as discussed before, and there is no predicting, certainly not to the day, when the economics will make the next phase of shipbuilding feasible. Lets all be patient, and hope for favorable exchange rates.
