Beautiful, beautiful day here in Chicagoland :sunny: I took the daycare kids to the big zoo this morning -- we never stepped foot inside any of the buildings, it was just too nice of a day to waste on the inside. I hope they wake up from their naps so we can play outside. Gotta love 60+ degrees in November!!!

Looks like it's been quiet around here too. Robin, I also missed your birthday, so since it was a good one, happy belated day!! :cake:

New Mouse Matters up......link in my siggy.

Feel free to comment.

And I need someone to post this over on the DVC board. I can't do it. Biased opinion here. :)

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I especially like this line:
"I don't think "fairness" is the real motivation. Otherwise, they would chuck the lottery and open the early date for all first-time cruisers."

Hmmmmm.......I just got to wonder...if all you getting the flu shots are giving it to those of us who are opting out. I don't get the flu shot, I won't go into my personal reasons for not wanting it but I'm just curious now because of the timing of those getting shots and those getting sick. I've had a nasty cough since day 2 on the ship, got worse and is a bit better now. It's just a dry cough, nothing to cough up and no fever so doesn't "qualify" as flu, it seems rampant in our area and by the sounds of it across the US. Interesting...

I've added my 2 cents. I do disagree about the slackers part. I don't fault any DVCer who hasn't cruised before (unless there was some large write-in campaign I hadn't heard about where members demanded that new people be let on). It is a business decision by DVC and in my opinion a bad one. As I stated there it would have been nice for those of use who do want to cruise again to see how much of a chance we have. Are they booking 90% the first day or 20% (I've heard both 50% and 33%).

:confused3 If we are getting the flu shots, we aren't getting the flu, and therefore not passing it to anyone. :)

I don't think Mike's point was against any new DVC members who couldn't cruise b/c they weren't members when booking opened.

Very true. I'm guilty of reading it as an overall statement instead of a more targeted one. Bad me. ;)

ahhhh...remember polio shots...they transmitted polio to those not immunized...
the danger is with being immunized with live virus which most flu shots are..they are just so weak that you don't "feel" yourself get sick but infact your body reacts by creating antibodies anyway (because really your sick just not overtly....don't get me started I'm one of those anti immunization nuts and yes I don't have ALL my facts straight but enough to convince me that many immunizations are in themselves dangerous...that said I did immunize my kids but I wouldn't have given them ALL of them if I knew then what I know now. When you invited me here did you KNOW I was as controversial as I am? LOL!!!!)

How do all of you qualify for a flu shot? After I had the flu earlier this year, I mentioned to my own doctor that I wanted to get a flu shot come fall. He then told me that I don't qualify as I'm not old enough to be in the "at risk" area. I then reminded him that not only do I have school aged kids of my own, but I work with little kids everyday and he said, I still don't qualify. His feeling is that unless I meet the guidelines (which I believe are age 55??) then he won't allow me to have it because having the flu for me shouldn't be life threatening.

I tell you, though, when I had the flu, I felt more terrible than I have in a long, long time. Maybe not life threatening, but definately miserable.

Sandy and I qualify because we are over 50. That's the recommended start age. I take no chances. Sandy actually got it earlier because of asthma. Just remember what DCL taught us - wash our hands a lot and even get under the nails EVERY time we wash. I learned that from DCL after they had to clean the ship inside and out when guests came down with a mysterious virus.

That's crazy.
I agree with that you should have the shot especially since you are a Daycare provider. Nick & myself are considered the "qualified" people since he has asthma and I'm immuno-compromised.

Actually, I was told that the flu shots nowadays are NOT made with live virus but that the spray mist was live. Who knows, you can never get the same answer twice from anyone! I opted out of the Swine Flu shot many years ago since that one really scared me.

The injection type flu shot is NOT a live virus. It's a killed virus. The flu-mist is a weakened virus.

I'm just going to jump in the flu shot discussion to tell you all my theory on flu shots. For years I worked in offices, when flu shot season came around everyone jumped up and got their shot--except me. My theory was if all you guys get your shot and don't get the flu, then you won't have the flu to pass on to me, so I just won't get the shot! :lmao: That worked until I became a SAHM and when Emma was born in August, she was still too young to get a flu shot so her Dr told me I should get one. So I did the motherly sacrifice thing and got one and have gotten them from there forward. My kids get them too. :confused3

***Michigan Dis meet Dinner Update!***

Since we are up to 28 people. That's with Karen and Curt included.(Just incase they can make it.)Carrabas asked if we could come at 4:45 instead of at 5:00PM.I said ok. If 5 PM is as early as you can get there that's fine.We will save you a seat.I'm sure 15 min. ,we will still be getting seated and looking at the menu.;) Let me know if any thing needs to be changed!;)
Thanks,Chris:sunny:

Sounds fine to me. How far is it from the mall (e.g. what time do we need to leave the mall to get the by 4:45)?

I have never had a flu shot but I did get the flu last winter. I was miserable, even though the doctor put me on something to shorten the length of it. I was in bed, for 3 solid days. I don't recall another time that I was sicker than that. I would venture to guess if you've had a cough since being on the ship that your not dealing with the flu or you'd be down and out. I can only base this on my experience but I was really sick.

On a related note... I was cleaning out our old Gateway notebook and discovered a whole folder of pictures that we had noplace else!

Including the following :)
