FTD was having a flower convention of some sort, and there were all kinds of flower arrangements around. Maybe Towncrier's wife can help us all figure out what the hangy-downy flowers are that we were all so fascinated with

I have been living with a floral designer for too long. I thought that they were birds of paradise, but they are actually hanging heliconia. Sue has used them in arrangements on occasion. I found some pictures of heliconia on http://www.alohatropicals.com/

I've seen the fuzzy leafy ones too and I believe that they are protea (also found on the above website).

Woo-hoo, John! I think this you've identified our furry little monster (or a very close relative), HELICONIA MUTISIANA:

Ours was furrier and scarier that this one though. And I'm pretty sure it was breathing and crawling. Possibly growling a little.

Hi! Looks like you all had a wonderful time!! I joined DIS a few days after this event. So this is just a little note to say the next time you are planning a DFW DIS meet, my DBF and I are in!

re: the murder mystery event... was it fun? would you recommend it? is it more fun in a group? I was thinking of getting a few friends together to do it. Do they do it all the time, or was this a special deal?

Yes, it was fun and I recommend it. The answer to the mystery was lame, but just seeing our Dis Fellow Internet Axe Murderers (inside joke) was great. I am sure Kathy will put you on the list for next time!!!
