I'm a lurker from the other Panama Canal thread and just wanted to say thank you to moocow35 for the link to the great article on the Panama Canal--took me forever to print it out on my work computer (my computer is very slow today!)--I am going on vacation next week and actually ordered the Path Between the Seas from my local library to read next week (along with about 6 other books)--I also reserved the two videos from the library: A Man, A Plan, A Canal: Panama and the Modern Marvels series of the Panama Canal so I will be able to sit down and watch the both of them.

Just wanted to post another great link on a map of the Panama Canal that was posted by one of our posters (mark and sandra or ThreeCircles??)--I just printed it out and it is best if you change your page setup to print on landscape. The link is: www.pancanal.com/eng/cruises/map.jpg Enjoy!! Mary Jo

Thanks Sarah's mom!

Thanks for the info on points! Helpful information to have. Ya never know, maybe I'll need to rent out points sometime.

Okay, work to do today.

Linda

:wave2:

Very Quiet evening on the boards...

Good night...

Ok, I have never done the High Tea and would love to. However in looking at past navigators it doesn't look like Flounder's is open during those hours so Hubby and I couldn't go together (plus its not all that high on his list of things to do).
I was thinking maybe a bunch of us DIS Ladies would like to do a High Tea together while on the ship? Anyone intersted?

If we get a group of us we will have to figure out a few details...I know it's 11 months away but I can't help myself...must plan!

On a different subject we are renting our DVC points to help finance the cruise.
I am suprised at how smoothly its going, granted Hubby has been doing all the work. ;) Tee Hee.

My mil and I would love to do high tea.....Keith would be more a "bucket 'o beer", guy!!

I would be interested in the high tea as well!
Any opportunity to sit around and get sconed. ;)

I want to do the high tea as well. But I also want to do the beer tasting. Go figure...

It is a quiet night on the boards...

I just got back from a really beautiful concert at a mountain winery. It was a beautiful night here! After temperatures of about 100 degrees today, the evening cooled very nicely. It was outdoors so there were plenty of twinkling stars and awesome views to accompany the music.

I had a great time, but it's nice to be home. I'm ready for bed!

Hope you're all having a nice week!

-jindy

Jeff and I both are doing high tea, one or both us us could join ya'll. He's a tea guy and am I a tea guy (girl). We frequnelty go here in Tampa for british tea...

Great! Sounds like a fun group for tea!

To anyone who has done high tea before...any guesses for which days it will be offered? What size are the larger tables at Palo?
I was just looking at the High Tea Menu on Barbs site. Ymmmmm
Everything looks yummy...maybe I need to find some food. :D
Have a great day everyone!

I agree Danica! Everything looks yummy!

Who has done High Tea (Palo) before???

We've done high tea and it was wonderful. Word of warning about group ressies. They tried to do that on our last cruise and even tho they had talked to everyone under the sun, when they got on board it was a mess. It would probably be better to make individual reservations and the same time/ day.

I've done high tea 3 times on the Magic. Most recently a couple of weeks ago :).

The teas they have are wonderful...strong teas, flavorful teas, fruity teas, etc. They have a variety so just about anyone will find something they like. All the teas are loose so after the tea steeps (brews) you pour it through a strainer into your cup.

The scones are delicious, as are the jam and cream served with them. The finger sandwiches are great too if you like what is in them. I like most of the ingredients separately but not necessarily together. I had the fishy ones as I don't like egg salad and I only like cream cheese in a cheesecake! :)

The eclair is great and so is the trifle, yummy!!

The great thing about tea is if you are dining at Palo after tea (for brunch or dinner, etc.) you can order your new favorite tea again. A few in my crew did that at dinner (the non-coffee drinkers).

OK I'll jump in...
We did the High tea in March.
I am English, like good HOT tea with scones, clotted cream, preserves and the whole thing.
I was disappointed. That said lots of folks love it and to each their own. I found that whether there were two or 6 at your table you got the same plate of sandwiches.
Do NOT look at it as a place to get much to eat :p . The water for the tea was tepid imho and definitely should have been much hotter.
Being in Palo in the daytime is great though. Brunch is phenomenal too not only for the variety and quality of food but for the view.

Cheers,
Grumbo

Grumbo is right about that...dining with 2 or 6 you do seem to have the same number of sandwiches. Just ask for more! :) Tea food is more of a snack food and not a real meal.

However it seems Grumbo got the Mickey Pool water and not the hot water we had...it was oh so hot!!! My tongue still hurts!

God I hope thats not where the water came from:confused: I can only imagine what is/was in that :p
I'm sure with these cruises being 14 days we'll give it another bash and I'll stop off at Pluto's and bring extra food ;)

Cheers,
Grumbo

Hey Grumbo, did you try asking for more sandwiches?

We enjoyed tea. I love "tea" the event and not "tea" the drink made from wet leaves, but I try to like it every time. Still, I love all of the little goodies they bring, but it IS a little bit light for a meal if you're going to skip lunch for it. The triffle dessert is VERY filling though but we did need to get some chicken strips a couple of hours later.

It's VERY empty and VERY quiet there during tea. We really enjoyed it and I am hoping next time I can get a coffee instead (is that blasphemous?)

Amy we'll take you by yourself, not sure if V&A would be as fun without Catherine and Lori... expecially after the wine pairings. The three of us with all that wine were a comedy festival all on to ourselves. Especially the trip to the restrooms....

Ya know waking up at 5am stinks.

Heheh. As it is, I'm jealous of the gazillion people I know going on this cruise, and I'm not one of them.

I know that I'd do the wine tastings with you, Jen. LOL!

So far, Amy's on the May cruise, and Catherine's on the August one. I'm hoping to get something in July for the Mexican Riviera.

Drat my work schedule blackout dates!

We do high tea often here in Tampa (there's a lot of Brits living in Florida!) Palo ranks amoungst the best. I came away from tea satified, the African Nectar tea is not to be missed. It's a perfect combination of rooibus and other flavors. The sandwhiches were great, we had another tray delivered for the 4 of us.
Our water was plenty hot for the Brit we were with, but cooled nicely for me since I prefer it on the cooler side.

ONE THING we have always wanted to try , but got involvd with other stuff at the time tea was offered on this trip for sure...

Peter

We are booked on THE CRUISE! Just got off the Magic on March 6 and couldn't wait to go again. I hope that this cruise is as enjoyable as the feb/mar cruise was.
One question--we weren't given cabin numbers, why is that?
