Oh yeah, you will be able to see it...We saw one from the Wilderness Lodge pool before. It was really neat. This is going to be great to see...

I just worry that the timing of the safety drill will mess up our chance to see it...

It is suppossed to be around 4:11pm-ish...isnt the safety thing about that time...4 or 4:30????

where is the budget office you reserved with?

The addy is 249 East Ocean Blvd, Long Beach. Local phone number is 562-495-4316.

And on the shuttle launch, I'd hope Disney would work that out. Anyone know where the rescue station is for cabin 6154? Last time we were in 7636 and we had to go to Animator's Palate. We got to sit down, but I'd rather see the shuttle!!

I have been in touch with DCL since we discovered the launch time. THey are aware of it .. Some have even notified the supervisors who were unaware of the launch. The problem is that it occurs when we are supposed to be having our manditory life boat drill. They would not commit to the possibility of delaying it so that we could see the launch. I haven't gotten back to DCL. Some of the Diser's were very negative that the launch is unlikely to even occur then. Delays and such.

Just realized I forgot 2 important things....that quote was for 2 full days, and the office code is LG2...sorry 'bout that!

Yeah, if the shuttle really does go, it will be a surprise, but a NICE surprise!!

It's only half past twelve,
but it's Five O'Clock Somewhere!

Five O'Clock is Magic departure time too--Boat Whistle

Bob,
I have never heard the whistle before!! Thanks for sharing! My DD loved it too!

Traffic will be horrible if the shuttle goes off that day. If you are driving yourself I would be at the port no later than 10 or so. I am not kidding. The causeways will be jammed since some of the roads will have to be shut. Be prepared to sit in traffic.

Jenn, Do you know if the DCL busses will do anything different? I am planning on driving over from MCO via rental car that morning. I will just follow a DCL bus, if I need to. :teeth:

I can't believe how many posts I missed in such a short amount of time. First of all I would like to thank Dreams Unlimited for their most generous offer (wine tasting). Also, please include us for the sailaway party. This cruise just keeps getting better and better!! :cheer2:

I think I can say at this early time that I'll be at the sailaway party (is it considered de rigueur to bring gifts?) and the wine tasting and probably the snorkling thing if the weather is fit for snorkling. I won't be doing door tag or the Fantasmic viewing (50 bucks will get me one heckuva dinner at the Grand Californian). I can't speak for my roommate.

I'm not exactly thrilled about the shuttle launch because I hear the traffic might delay our bus from WDW.. and the last time I saw a shuttle launch it never came back.

DCL has repeatedly said that NO one will be allowed into the port to check in prior to 10:30 AM. THat was to include any vehicles or people on foot. Has anybody actually gotten in before 10:30? Do they actually have guards stationed at the front entrance? I am going by limo and they suggest no earlier than 10:30.

Oh my gosh!!! That would be soooooooooooooo cool!!! How close is Kennedy Space Center? What time does the ship leave the dock? Will we really be able to see the Shuttle?

Wow, this trip is getting better and better everyday!!

Laurie AKA Captain Mary Flint pirate:

4pm is luanch time, and it is as the crow flys about 1 mile from the ship..

ship will probably have to leave late with this going on...

we are planning on leaving for the port at 8 am one stop at the airport Hyatt
and then to the port...

Jen Can u save us a spot in line LOL... Again

You can not get into the port until usually 10ish, but you can wait in the drop off zone before then or in the parking lot across the street. Without the launch Jeff and I usually get there by 9 so we're early in line.

The launch is incredible. First trip Jeff and I took together to Disney we saw it across Bay Lake from our room in one of the Garden Wings at the Contemp. It was wonderful. I'm very happy to see NASA pick up the pieces once again and go forward....
It will be very interesting to see what Disney does.

MOOCOW35 (Robin) Wow! First we get the same pirate name assigned to us... then it's Coldwater Creek!!! yikes! Maybe we DID get separated at birth! ha! I did end up buying a black dress from their site!

WOW the shuttle launch on our departure day!!! Our plane doesn't land until 10:30 AM taht same day. Hope we're not too delayed. If we had realized a shuttle launch was scheduled, we would ahve come in the day before.

Kinda a strange experience for us though. When we took the DVC Member cruise in Feb '03, we went to the launch site in hopes of seeing the shuttle land. Everyone was so excited in anticipation. you could have heard a pin drop in the parking lot once we all realized what had happened. I'm glad the program is moving ahead, and we, in our own way will be there too!

Joe (DH) and I (Georgie-bonzie1) will be at the sail away. :boat:

Guys! It's already feeling like it's CLOSE! I'm feeling behind already!

JenKatt: Thanks for all the ideas for sailaway gifts.

Chet (DH) and I will be at sailaway.

The shuttle launch the day we board the Magic....how cool is that. When DH hears this, he's probably going to buy that new mini camcorder he wants.

Has DCL made a change to the flow of traffic entering the terminal area to drop off luggage? Karaeric, Seaulater, Videogal are you aware of any changes?

What are your thoughts....Is traffic going to be a problem for those of us staying at the port the night before? We have a rental car. Is it a better idea to return the rental car and take the shuttle with all our luggage?

We're staying at the port the night before as well. I have a rental car reserved, but I never thought about the traffic situation until now... I think we will just towncar it to the port on Friday, and shuttle it to the Magic early Saturday morning. Spot saving??? Is that allowed? J/K It could work however, if all of us were wearing the same shirt....just a huge family? :rotfl:

Georgie, did not make a purchase online yet, I won't buy any black dress now, thanks for the heads up. If we ended up with the same Coldwater creek dress.....that would be too much. I do however have many purchased over the years, and will be bringing some of them.

Regarding the sailaway gift, I have already found something online that I want to get. For those of you with previous experience with this, I need opinions. So far we have 38 plus Cash attending. (if I counted right) I did a rough count on Jeff and Jen's list, and there are 223 plus Cash. How many would you purchase for?

Robin (aka Brunhilda Pink Toe pirate: )

Robin

you will be fine to drive down the night before....

and from the resort you are at it is only 5 minutes from the ship
you will not hit alot of traffic ..space center is off in a different direction..

shuttle will get you right over no worries..

Yes, it's me again... just need to share this... when I walked into our closet this morning, the floor felt cold. I thought this was strange, because it's usually warm (with a heat vent). Then the sinking feeling set in... Oh no, is there ice in our rain gutter and with the melting snow are we getting water backing up under the roof???

A quick run down to the kitchen, and a glance at our wet ceiling told me sad ending to the story... :faint:

I'm now at work, getting things settled, but must rush back home to clear the way for the ceiling work and closet work... call the insurance agent (sigh). I hope it won't cost an arm and a leg, 'cause we're cruisin' in May!

Thanks for letting me share! :sad2: Wish us luck!

Well today most of the huge ice melted off the gutter without event, putting a stop to the worry that has been haunting Me.. hope all goes well with the repairs to your home.. Peter

Thanks for the traffic info, I will be up very early anyway, so that morning we will be leaving about 5:30 ;) ok 0600.

Peter, even tho the space center is the other way, Jeff has done multiple security details over there for CAP and is the one who told me about the traffic mess. When the shuttle launches so many of the roads are closed the keep the launch site safe that it's just a mess. Plus you have a ton of people who just stop along the roads to watch the launches.

Jeff and I will be leaving WDW by 8 most likely. We'll stop at a 7-11 or something and get to the port by 9:30. If anyone gets there that early with us, you're more than welcome to join us.

As far as how many sailaway gifts, I'll take a more detailed head count at about the 75 day mark to give everyone a better idea...
