Me excitable, well…… :hyper:

Guilty as Charged, I really doubt if I will sleep the night of 5/13. :goodvibes :hyper:

There is too much of life to be lived, explored, experienced, and I strive to live it to the fullest. Poor Lynn, she deserves a lot of credit. I guess that is why I love her so. :sunny:

Scott, I'll probably sleep like a baby. Did before the last cruise. Wore out from being excited all day. The happy hour at the hotel didn't hurt either.

In my case, Lee deserves all the credit. If it weren't for her, I'd never did all the traveling we have done.

What would we do without them? :rotfl2:

All right , New Topic.
How many of you have been to your doctor? What did they tell you about the immunizations or prophylaxis for malaria for the cruise? Did any of you go to a travel clinic?
Bill

um...are you suggesting that this is something we should do? :scratchin

Bill, I haven't yet, but plan to call next week. My Doctor is so non pro-active to the point of being a nerd, that I just don't know if I can rely on his answer. What do you suggest?

Don't know if this is the defining answer, but Cruise Critic board answers a similar question-http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=97454

Lee's parents did a panama canal cruise 5 years ago. No shots.
Downside of this cruise...no blood donations for a year. :sad2:

Regarding documents: Last year I got them 4 weeks before the cruise, and I was one of the very last ones in our group to get them. I believe it was because I used Disney Air. Hopefully this time I'll be in the early group since I've done air on my own. :goodvibes So what do you think? About 5 weeks out? That would mean in about 1 1/2 weeks :cheer2:

I guess I better order my pin shirt from zazzle. I applaud Jen and Jeff for donating the money for the kids in need. I can't thank you guys enough for all you have done for all of us already.

I am really starting to feel excited about how soon our cruise is coming up! :boat: Two whole weeks of fun in the sun :sunny:

Robin

There's a difference?????

RE Meds etc. : for us or current vacination cover us for a bunch, Malaira in the canal zone per CDC is not a prob. ALways travel with some cipro, hydrocodone, and a few others as the travel dictates.

Side note: I know people who have used Mefloquine as a malaria prophylaxis, and they experienced very vivid dreams. Malarone worked well for us.

Peter and Jen will be the first to get their documents, that is my bet.

Honestly I won't be trabeling with any special meds or vaccinations for this cruise. We're not going anywhere that is a high risk area. If we were going into Panama or Costa Rica yes, but through the canal and tourist spots in Mexico no.

As for traveling with prophylactic meds, maybe to Africa or the rainforest, but I won't make it a regular practice. Anyways there's a doctor on board for any problems.

Okay, Okay, I'll admit it...I just realized DH AKA Prince Charming's passport expired in December. OOPS!! :teeth:

I mailed it off today...from what I have been reading on the main board...the turn around time has been three weeks on average. :teeth:

WOW guys!!!

7 pages to catch up on today!! And post 7,0000 - YAY (Good job Kara) :cheer2:

First, thanks for all the feedback on the rain ponchos...I packed them in the bag this morning.

Well if you bring a rain poncho/jacket and an umbrella, along with a video camera, you can do your own hurricane report from deck 10 forward in all the wind. :) Do it at night cause it's more effective! If it's not raining I will throw a bucket of water on you, and flash a few pics for lightning!

That made me giggle and after enough cocktails I may think it sounds fun...complete with water buckets!!! I'm In!!

............have you all made your ps's?
We are going to Napa Rose for dinner on the 28th, Blue Bayou for lunch on the 29th, and we are trying the new Lilo and Stitch Character breakfast at the Paradise Pier Resort on the 30th.

•Napa Rose is WONDERFUL!! If you are a small party of 2 or 3 sitting at the chefs counter is a great experience...I highly reccommend the wild mushroom cappucino and the seared scallops in vanilla lobster sauce. Also, if you cant get a reservation, they do serve a limited menu in the bar area that is as nice as the restaurant with comfy stuffed chairs and a fireplace. And the best part is no reservations needed for the bar and I have gone there in Park clothes with kids and it is fine!
• Also, anyone looking for good sushi...Yamabuki in the Paradise Pier hotel is also really great!!

My concern is mainly over the malaria issue. There are a number of malaria prophylaxis drugs on the market. I, personally, am not too keen on taking them. Doxycycline seems to be the simplest one there, but it can cause significant sun sensitivity. You must also take the meds for about one month after the exposure to the affected area. The once a week meds seem the easiest, but in looking at the CDC website, there are two different recommendations for Panama. I was curious if anybody had checked with someone more familiar than me. Recently , a patient saw me that had taken one of the meds and he suffered nausea and significant dizziness. It passed without problem many days after returning home. Any comments?

Robin, Marie, everybody, I think I will contact one of my infectious disease close friends. They took care of my mom when we diagnosed AIDS in her from a blood transfusion. She died 1993. I am not real concerned with the canal issue real much. I do want to know what that persons recommendations are if they can tell me off the top of their head. Also, I will call the Indiana dept of health and let you guys know what they say. They tend to be overly cautious with travel and I suspect they will tell me the worst. i.e. get all of the shots. Not real interested, to me. But, I will let you know. Tomorrow, I may not be able to call them during office hours as I have to go to Lafayette, Indiana. YES!!!!! up there where BOB and LEE live. MAYBE, I'll get to see them. Kristen will be with me. Got to get the car worked on. (It was fixed by the body shop of the Chevy dealer up there)
Bob, I checked out the post you pointed to and that person was not very worried as the canal zone is "supposed" to be malaria free. I'm just not sure where I stand at this point. Angela doesn't know this kind of stuff off the top of her head either. Most insurances don't pay for vaccinations and we end up sending people to the travel clinic here in Indy where they routinely stock the vaccines. They also keep up to date on the very latest recommendations.
