We have always stayed at value resorts and enjoyed them. However, this time we are considering upgrading to a moderate - probably Port Orleans Riverside ( French Quarter is our first choice but it's another $140!) We have stayed at CBR once before but didn't have the best experience.

It's just my teenager and myself. We're trying to decide if the moderate is worth the extra $200 it costs over the value resort.

Thoughts and opinions are most welcome!

Can I ask your opinion on CBR?
I have stayed at POFQ and now booked for CBR. I really liked POFQ compared to POP. I think no matter where you are in FQ its an easy walk to everything. DH loved that it was less busy. I loved the double sinks, the privacy curtain. Kids loved the slide. The theming is really cool. The maid service stunk, but thats could just be one of those things. Buses can be a pain at night. Sometimes the resort shares with Riverside adding 10-15mins on travel time. The resort is small and easy to get to food court and buses. The boat to DTD is really cool. Def do that. For $140... I guess it depends. I would just go for it myself. But if you could use the $ elsewhere then value will serve its purpose. I just liike staying new places each time now. I think that moderates seem less chaotic lol. Riverside looks beautiful from what I saw driving around it in the buses lol. I wonder why FQ is more than Riverside???
I hope I helped a little... Good luck!

I guess it would depend on if I planned on being at the parks all day. Would you be spending any down time at the resort? Is a table service restaurant important to you? How about bed size, is a queen bed a must?

If I wasnt spending any down time at the resort and planned to be at the parks all the time than I would not spend the $200 to upgrade to a mod. If I was planning on enjoying the resort too & I had a choice of value or mod I would go with the mod. I would also pay the extra for POFQ. We have stayed at POR and didn't like it but have visited POFQ a few times now and really love the look & feel of the resort. Plus the renovations there look great!

I would say its worth it. I would think about how quickly I could save enough money to make up the difference. If, however, as others have said you plan on being in the parks all day, the upgrade probably isn't worth it.

How long are you staying? That may make a difference too.

We love POR. We have stayed at All-Star Sports and never will again after staying at POR. We may try POP one day if that is all our budget allows.

You do get alot more with a moderate. Fridge, queen beds now at most, with POR you will have the boat to DTD. Addition of quiet pools except at POFQ. Movies at night (not sure if the values have that or not). The foodcourt at POR is fantastic! Now the POR resort has storage under the sinks as well. Love that feature.

Worth it! We could not believe how tiny value rooms were, even just a little extra space made all the difference to us!

Have fun!

For us, it would definitely be wroth it. We did a value once and did not care for it at all. We have now skipped a trip if we could not stay at a moderate or above. With a teenager, I think they would enjoy having the slide a the pool, bigger beds (except for CBR), and a hot tub at the end of a long day is wonderful.

For me, it would depend on the length of stay. If it is only for 2 - 3 days, then I would probably stick with a value resort, but for any longer vacation I would book a moderate. I've stayed at all three levels of resorts, and while all offer the Disney ambience and cleanliness, I would definitely book at a "higher level" if funds permitted, e.g.. I LIKE Pop Century and AS Music, but simply adore POFQ and AKL. If ther isn't a significant price difference, I will usually book at least the mod.

We have stayed at CBR for the past 4 trips and love it. We love the theme, food court, and pools. It is a large resort and their could be some walking involved but we have never had a bad location or any problem with the buses.

OP - Yes, I think it is worth the extra money to stay in a moderate. (larger rooms and a fridge)

Absolutely, positively, without a doubt, hands down, emphatically YES!

I had us booked at All Star Sports for our Xmas trip, and about 3 weeks before the trip, I caved and switched us to POFQ...it cost us $500 for the upgrade, so $200 sounds like chump change. And I'd keep checking back to see if a standard room opens up at FQ. People cancel all the time. I'd choose FQ over RS in my humble opinion.

Here's what we got for $500:
*bigger room
*queens beds rather than double
*double sinks with privacy curtain
*fridge
*compact resort
*hot tubs
*pool slide
*theme is more appealing to us
*fewer rooms means less people at our bus stop
*beignets
*boat to Downtown Disney

Totally worth it.

I feel like the rooms are nicer. It is nice to have the extra room, double sinks, and the fridge that comes in the moderate hotel rooms. I have not stayed at Riverside, but have stayed French Quarter. I really LOVED it. However either way you will be at Disney! : )
