We are going to DL in November. We are staying at VGC for 4 days. We received a $200 Disney Gift Card from my mom to do something "special that we wouldn't normally splurge for".

There will be 4 of us traveling, 2 adults and 2 kids (5 and 3)

Where would you spend the $200?

Depends on what you wouldn't normally do! If you're usually budget conscious with where you eat, maybe splurge on reservations at somewhere like the Blue Bayou or Carthay Circle! Or if you'd normally forgo expensive souvenirs, treat yourselves to something beautiful and a little spendy! :goodvibes

You would have to kick in a little bit of your own money, but I have always said that if I got a Disney "treat" from someone else I would try the reserved seat / dessert box viewing for Fantasmic! someday.

$200 will be a little short of the four of you, but that's what I would do.

I have seen a few threads about some nice restaurants, but CC isn't really a menu that we would care for. Where is the best steak on property?

That sounds fun, I will have to dig into that one deeper.

Yep.

Shameless plug by linking to the DIS Unplugged blog, but how about the Discover the Magic tour?

Looked fun, would my 3 almost 4 year old be lost on that tour? Is it geared for older children?

I would do dinner at Goofy's and a trip to the BBB if you have girls.

We have boys.

You'd need to kick in $20, but FANTASMIC! seating...

Best steak has to be Steakhouse 55. Order the filet.

How about pre-purchasing the Photopass+ card and booking a character breakfast to take advantage of the photos being added to the photopass+ card.

Then when you get your CD you can put together an album for your mom with the photos.

I like this idea best and I bet you Mom would love a little photo album:thumbsup2

go to the bbq at big thunder ranch it's all you can eat family style. Then use the rest of the money for a present for the kids. Any left over the adults can get a little treat.

Ooh this is fun! I would do something rather different. I would purchase a print or piece of art that would always serve as a reminder of the trip. A caricature drawing of the kids or whole family would also be fun. My sister in law had her kids wear their Disney Christmas hats for their portrait and then she displays them during Christmas. A statue of a character or a Jim Shore collectible would be great. But I also vote for the tour or the Fantasmic dessert packages.

I was going to say the Fantasmic! package is what I thought I'd pick for myself.

But this made me remember the custom sketches you can order at Off the Page in DCA (and I believe they now have places to get it on Main Street in DL and maybe even Downtown Disney). I believe $35 will get you a sketch of 1 character of your choice, and they can customize with names/etc. Might be fun for your sons' bedroom/s and if you're the type who likes Disney on your own walls, might be fun for your home too. :)

I think having a nice experience would be lots of fun, though, and from the DIS review, the Discover the Magic Tour sounds like fun too.

Photo pass plus and nice frame for Mom! It shows thanks and I'm sure she would love it! You can even get matching shirts for the picture.

With the little ones being so little, I don't know if I'd do fantasmic (but I have 2 girls... My 5 year old at the time had nightmares from it.) I would definately do a character meal. I would also do the photo plus pass. I would do whatever character(s) that the boys love the best. If you ALREADY have a character meal and a photo pass, then I would suggest getting a lot of the little "art" things - a caricature or silhouette of the kids, a special frame or scrapbook.

Good luck! Enjoy.

I think we would try the fantasmic dessert seating or a tour (never done either). Or maybe a character breakfast we've never done before.

We are all about experiences rather than things so we would skip the souvies and memorabilia.
