20,000 leagues under the sea

We were there about two weeks ago (end of March) and I personally think that it could use some refubishing.... with the track still visible from above the water and that day the water looked muggy and green... yuck, and extremely shallow. I think a Nemo ride would do great there!! But I also think that draining the water and replacing it with concrete, well, I just personally think it could use some fixing.

Thanks for listening.

Safe to say it will not be turned in to an "Alamo" ride or exhibit.

Confirmed by Disney: 20K Lagoon is fnally being reclaimed as part of a future unspecified expansion. Walls will begin going up around the lagoon and parts of it's a small world as early as this Monday 4/19/04. The area will be completely filled in and landscaped. No further information is available at this time.

Got a link?
All the insiders I know have said it's just a refurb and it will be refilled.

Well, it's being drained for a refurb soon.

That's just great. Drain an unused area, refurb it and fill it up again. Way to go.

I've read rumors elsewhere (wdwmagic boards) that the fence will go up around the 20K lagoon next Monday. That poster claimed that the lagoon would be bulldozed. We'll see...

Also being mentioned is that IASW will be down for refurb from June 2004 through Spring 2005.

Screamscape and Mouseplanet are also reporting that the lagoon will be filled soon with dirt soon.

Closing IASW for a year???? While not a real fan of the ride, (except DL at Christmas) I can't imagine most guests accepting this as a good thing.....it's like closing Space Mountain for over a year (wait a minute they are doing that at DL). This is one of their premier rides that everyone pays homage to. When I read the post by MCFantasia, "and parts of it's a small world as early as this Monday 4/19/04", I was imagining the part of the building where the old Skyway was, so they could reclaim that unused land, not IASW ride itself. Guess we'll have to wait and see. I know some disappointed family members of mine if we can't ride IASW in June.

Hate to be a bubble burster, but when we took the Keys to the kingdom tour it went into detail about the lakes being part of the feeder to the Florida Everglades. There is a system of locks and water causways. I don't think draining is an option...but I will submit it for the people who know better. The 20k ride can't come back without major redesign because of handycap access.

IOW, it can't be filled in, and any draining will have to be in sections. They might be able to re-use the old track with a new type of sub.....

The 20K lagoon is not a part of the canal system that does run throughout Walt Disney World. It can be drained because it is essentially like one gigantic swimming pool not connected with nature in anyway. The internal Cast newspaper, Eyes & Ears, reported that it will be filled with over 5000 dump trucks filled with dirt.

Ouch... Strike me through the heart...I was hoping for a new water ride...
