2 tsa precheck questions

1. Just got my ktn. Apparently my passport has a space in my last name (not my real last name, but for example Mc Donald instead of McDonald) so my ktn name does too. Has this happened to anyone else and did it cause a problem? My frequent flier accounts and drivers license all have no space.

2. My husband and 14 year old son are traveling tomorrow on the same reservation but only my husband’s boarding pass said precheck. I chatted with Frontier customer service. She added husband’s ktn to son’s personal info, and now both boarding passes say precheck.

Anyone else have experience with this since the May change? Wondering if we should just do what the cs agent did and add our numbers to the kids’ profiles.

We just flew today. Husband and I both have precheck, 13 yr old DD does not. When we checked in and got boarding passes, her’s showed up as precheck as well. This was at PDX in Portland, Or.

I'm not so sure I agree with the frontier agent adding your husband's KTN number to your son's account. It's not your son's number- it's your husbands. I have an apostrophe in my last name and I have had issues with JetBlue (not Southwest or Delta- the airlines I use most). I would change your frequent flier accounts to show the space- that might be the only thing that works.

You may have issues with the name not matching between the SecureFlight data and the Precheck data. There are a couple of threads over on FlyerTalk that people have had issues and what they've done to ameliorate them. If you change your FF accounts you may get a mismatch between the DL data they scan and the SecureFlight data which means you wouldn't be allowed through security.
Do not add someone else's numbers to your kids' profiles. You could have your Precheck revoked for that. It also shouldn't work.

Follow up for anyone with the added-space-in-name issue. It’s worked just fine for several flights! There was no need to worry.

For the other issue, we just decided to pay for the kids to get their own ktn.

I thought the TSA just announced that kids of trusted travellers would also be allowed through pre-check.

It says they will be allowed through precheck IF their boarding pass has precheck on it. DS’s did not. Spent quite a bit of time on chat with Frontier, who fixed it but in a possibly shady way (see above). We just decided to pay and save the hassle.

No, TSA reiterated the previously in place policy that kids whose boarding passes show Pre can go through Pre and that they may get Pre by flying with someone that has it. No actual change in policy occurred. It's possible and even probable that there was a change to the decision matrix on who gets Pre to move kids of those with Pre up the list, but it is not automatic.

That's actually good to know as the wife and I both have Global Entry (which includes PreCheck) but my 12 year old kid does not. I'll watch out for this.
