2 trips, extend park hopper w/no exp or new tickets?

We are going to WDW in the beginning of January as a family . We just found out that DH has a convention at WDW at end of January. Due to school, etc.. can't change trip to coincide with DH convention. However I am considering going with DH to convention to have a grown up only trip. Convention allows us to buy partial day tickets, after 2pm, after 4 pm admission. I know we will both go to a single park for one full day together. I would also like to go to parks while DH is at meetings. I am trying to decide whether to extend our earlier trip tickets and add no expiration option, or to buy tickets separately. I know I won't want to wait until the afternoon to go to parks, but DH won't be able to go until afternoon after meetings. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I would see if there is a big price difference for you to get the Annual Pass for yourself.

I have a friend that goes every year, so the first year she goes in August and buys the Annual Pass. The next year she visits in June and her Annual Pass is still good. It works out cheaper for her and she gets all the benefits.
Just a thought.
