Just back from AKL. Loved it! We have stayed at GF and Beach Club before. What we really liked about it was that it is almost like another Disney park. The theming is incredible. Even the pool looks like an African watering hole. The grounds are lush with many flowers, and the cms around are fantastic. Especially the ones around the animal look out areas. They are always ready to answer questions and chat, and they have really cool night vision binoculars you can use. We had dinner at Jiko's one night (the best dinner of our trip) and breakfast at Boma's. We made great use of Mara's, the fast food place, for snacks and quick breakfasts.

The one thing that was disappointing was our room. The setup and theming are great (although the room is, indeed, very dark, hard to read at night and impossible to apply makeup.... I ended up doing my makeup on the balcony!) We paid for a savannah room.... were expecting what we saw in videos with lush greenery, animals around, etc. What we got was a second floor room (which I had requested) overlooking the Sunset Savannah (I wanted Arusha)...But our view was actually over cement ground and a huge holding pen used to protect guests in case of an emergency. If we hung way off our balcony and looked off to the right, we could sometimes see an animal. Once a day or so we would see a giraffe or two eating across the other side of the holding pen, his head visible above the corral. I don't think it would have been so bad had we been higher up, but we were very disappointed. Thought about asking for a different room, but just too much effort. I think they need a new catagory of room "partial view savannah". This way no one would be disappointed as their expectations would match the view. These rooms would be great for standard view guests to recieve a free upgrade, and/0r priced less than Savannah view rooms.

I would refuse to accept this room next time. But as you can see we still loved the resort! Don't forget to look for the "hidden" hot tub around behind the pool bar. Never crowded! Questions?

Thanks for the post. Sorry about the view. We are going next week. Am looking forward to AKL. Have heard so many wonderful things. How was the transportation to the parks?

Great! Now everyone knows! Thanks alot. ;)

the transportation to the parks was great. Never waited more than 10 minutes for any of them. Sometimes they would swing by and pick up at Blizzard Beach, but most of the time they were direct to the parks.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. We're going to try it out in October. I've been thinking about requesting a pool view, for the reason I figure it'd be my luck to pay for a savanna view and not be happy with it. At least I'd know the pool would always be there when I looked out.

What did you order at Jiko?

Glad you enjoyed the resort, too bad about the view though. We were there in November and are going back in June. How was the pool area, was it hard to find chairs? When we were there in Nov. it was a bit cool, so the pool was never crowded.

Glad you enjoyed your trip. We will be there soon and can hardly wait. We only have a standard view but I'm sure it won't matter since this is a first time in trying a deluxe. :)

The pool area was crowded, but we always found chairs, usually around back behind the bar. At Jiko's we started with the flatbread, then had the cinnamon beef roll (excellent!) then dh had monkfish, the best fish I ever tasted, and I had shrimp. We split the beggar's purses for dessert. It was fantastic from start to finish, and the service was outstanding, too! This was our favorite out of Jiko, Flying Fish and California Grill.

Tycase, welcome home! Glad to see that you really enjoyed yourself at the AKL. It is my favorite resort.

I think you should express your opinion about your room's view in writing and send it in care of the AKL's General Manager. I'm sure he would be interested in hearing your opinion, and maybe if he heard enough opinions along the same lines, something would be done. You just never know.

The AKL looks very nice in the pictures that I have seen. Probably going to visit it on my trip in JUne/JUly.
