2 studios or 2 bedroom villa?

Just wondering - for the resorts that offer both options - whats the advantages (points are less) and disadvantages of our group getting 2 studios instead of a 2 bedroom?

I was looking specifically at GFV for this - but wondering about others to maybe

I am kind of in the same situation. I am a former DVC owner, and I usually rent points from others. We are planning a trip in 2016, and I can't decide whether to get the 2br for more "together" time, or get two studios. We aren't planning to cook, so I feel like the extra $ won't be worth it. Anxious to hear the opinions of others.

The advantage of the 2-bdrm is space. There is a lot more space than in 2 studios. You also have a kitchen, laundry, and in some cases - an extra bathroom.

Another difference is the sleeping options. Studios have 1 queen bed and pull-out full. 2-bdrm has 1-bdrm with king, second bedroom either has 2 queens or same as studio. The 2-bdrm also has a pull-out queen in the the living room (some also have a single pull-out chair).

We have traveled with my parents and in-laws (separately). So, there were 6 of us (my family of 4 and one set of grandparents). Both times I got the 2-bdrm lock-off. That way, my parents had their own space. They had a studio that adjoined to our 1-bdrm, but still had access to the kitchen and laundry. DH and I had a bedroom to ourselves because the kids slept in the living room. Both of those times, we were using our points for everyone.

For other situations, I could see it making things difficult. If people are splitting the cost, who gets the king size bed in the bdrm with the largest bathroom?

And because IMHO DVC made a major mistake by selling small packages to brand new members at VGF, their Studios are always in very high demand. I would think you might have a slightly better chance of getting a 2 bdrm. For my points, I would much prefer a 2 bdrm villa over 2 Studios in most cases.

We have to do the 2 Bedroom due to our family size (4 kiddos under the age of 10) but even before we had so many littles we would opt for the 2 bedroom when traveling with another couple mainly due to the extra space and the doors ~ we liked having a common area to hang out in together and then beds behind doors so that if some wanted to sleep and others wanted to be up then everyone could be happy.

No tip-toeing around at night for the night owls or in the morning for the early birds

If you want to spend time together get a two bedroom. Really no where for a lot of people to hang out in a studio.

I'm seriously considering this for next year. We're traveling with 2 inlaws that DH doesn't care for. I'm thinking this is a better solution than a 2b. And if the kids get too rowdy, we can go off to the other room and leave DH alone.

We're VGF owners, so I should be able to get 2 studios in Aug at 11m! What I'll really miss is the large living room, storage space, big fridge and W/D. It's hard to all sit down and eat in the studios since there's only 2 chairs (4 of us). But I'd save a lot of points

Yup counting on it It's such a small building even if we're split a few floors it's just a short elevator ride. I wouldn't try it at BLT, might with VWL.

We stayed in a 2BF at BCV in February and really enjoyed it. However, part of the reason we did that was because the studios were not available at the 7 month mark. Next year, we hope to try for 2 studios again. The point savings are substantial, and we will survive if we are not together 24/7. I will say the space in a 2BR was really nice. We don't need the big kitchen, but it provided some of that extra space we liked so much.

Don't forget the new villas at the Poly now offer the option of having 2 studios connecting, if you prefer that to being down the hall or far away from each other.

I agree, but we like to be together, the down time and discussions of the day's events at night before bed time have produced the biggest laughs and memories.

To me it depends who you are traveling with. Studios give you your own privacy. 2 bedrooms, you share a living room and kitchen area. With a 2 bedroom though you get the kitchen and washer dryer. We have done both, and I prefer to have my own space with my family unit.

IMO the only reasons to get the studios over the 2 BR are if you want to be separate or you can't swing the extra points. For OKW it also gives you ore beds (4 queens) for the 2 studios.
