DH & I have a standard room booked for mid Nov. It was the only view available. We're leaving our kids at home for our 19th anniversary (yes, they're fine with it, just used a little bribery:rolleyes1 ) Just how romantic are these room views? We upgraded from Pop to CSR to AKL, thinking this would be a very romantic resort...

then I remembered the construction. Does anyone know the schedule? Did I make a mistake in switching? DH doesn't know about the AKL upgrade yet, and I don't want him to be disappointed.

Hubby and I can spend a long weekend at AKL and never leave the resort..we love the restaurants, pool area and bars. The castmembers are so wonderful there.

As far as romance..we make our own, we never depend on anyone else or our surroundings to make the romance for us.

I never worry about the room view at AKL as there are so many spots in the walkways where you can go out on to balconies and watch the animals. The themeing is great for adults - dark and romantic. You'll have a great time - don't worry!!

I agree with all of you. We upgraded to the Savannah view and I wasn't disappointed. The first time I opened the drapes, two giraffes were eating on the tree almost touching our balcony! I could sit there for hours and just watch. To me you could skip the AK and see more animals at the AKL. I loved Boma. The entire safari theme in and around the lodge is soooo romantic that you can't go wrong no matter what room you booked. I was actually told that if you ask for a free upgrade when checking in, they hold back some upgrade rooms just for those that ask. I'm trying it!

Thanks for the replies. I was just picturing DH & I, arm in arm, cheek to cheek, on the balcony while a beautiful sunset envelopes us, while we're watching the herds of, uh...people file off the buses :lmao: I guess that could be romantic!! Oh well, as was said, romance is what you make it.

Does anyone know about the construction schedule?

I'm thinking of upgrading from POP to AKL myself. I called and there is only standard view available. So am I correct in understanding that I will not be able to see the animals from our room, but as a previous poster said, there are plently of places to view them in the hallways? Also curious about the construction. I do not want to get bumped to SSR at the last minute (no offense to SSR, I'm sure it's a great resort, but if I'm going to upgrade I want AKL because my kids are so excited about the animals!). Thanks!!!!:goodvibes

From what I've seen from pictures and heard from other posters, there's tons of placed to see the animals from all over the resort. We used to visit the resort, to eat a Boma's, and would just sit outside for awhile watching the animals from the back porch. It was very relaxing, and the lobby is just stunning! I'm so excited to be able to stay there.

The view from a standard view room at the AKL is of the parking areas. Not a romantic view but the resort itself is very romantic the lobby theming and smells are amazing. If you are looking to be able to sit out on your balcony and have a great view then at least book a pool view room. The pool area is very nicely done if the savanna view room is out of your price range. Enjoy.

I would love to upgrade, but unfortunately, standard is the only thing available with the codes right now. I'm hoping to be able to upgrade, paid or nicely given, to any other view when we arrive. I'm trying to get my mind set if that doesn't happen though.

We're planning on sitting outside on the back porch or around the swimming area quite a bit since the weather should be perfect that time of year.

My wife and I stayed at AKL in 2004 in a standard view room. The view was very boring but that di not deter us from having a great time. The resort is fabulous and we are going back in Dec. With the codes, it is worth staying at AKL even if it is a standard view room. I don't think we will stay anywhere else when we visit WDW.
