If you had to choose, which would it be? Family of 5 (myself, DH, DS9,DS14,DD9). 7 nites.

I like having 2 rooms for the space, 2 washrooms etc and from what I understand, the transportation would not be an issue like it could be at the cabins.

I like the idea of the cabins for for the full kitchen! and the bbq! and the deck! But the transportation issue I read about spooks me. I wouldn't want to deal with that everyday I don't think.

I recently found out (last week) that I am being "temporarily" laid off (already started) so the money I had forecasted for our trip is being drastically reduced. It seems I could make up for some of it by preparing a lot of our own meals but would I want to go back to the resort for a meal if it's so difficult to get back & forth to parks.

Any thoughts? Would it make that much difference?

I think that if you have your own car, transportation isn't too bad. We camped in the 1500 loop in April and found the internal buses very quick. There was only one night leaving the MK at closing when we waited exceptionally long to catch the ferry. And now they've added that MK bus from WL.

We sometimes take the CR boat and catch the monorail to TTC and transfer to Epcot monorail as an alternative to bus. We like the ferry to MK

We do drive to MGM and AK.

We stayed in the cabins for Christmas 2001, cooked our usual Christmas feast and had a great time.

Hope that helps.

My family of 5 would vote for the two rooms. My dh especially hated the transportation at FW and my kids expect a better pool when we're at Disney. The cabin itself, though, is very nice (nicer than I expected) -- definitely NOT camping out. If you truly think you will cook, you might want to stay there.

You actually can save a lot of $ on food at Disney without cooking. We drive, so I bring snacks, breakfast food, water and other drinks with us. We have a firm rule that we do not buy drinks and snacks at convenience stores when we stop for gas. At Disney, we eat breakfast in our room each day and also enjoy snacks and drinks when we're hanging out at the room. We do quite a few sit-down meals, but eat a lot of them at lunch instead of dinner.

Two rooms means two bathrooms. We've done it both ways and while we're glad to have stayed in the cabins once we have chosen POR twice since then and POFQ now in February. It's still more expensive to stay in the cabins than to get two rooms in a moderate. The money saved can go a long way towards a counter service meal or two per day and it keeps me out of the kitchen which is important to me while on vacation!!!

We loved the cabins AND FW transportation, and we had 5 small kids.
The busses are really no big deal. You can get the low-down before you go (check the camping board here), or have the desk CM explain to you the bus routes.
We loved the 2500 loop, the bus stop is just steps away and the laundry/pool is just next door.
We made all our breakfasts plus 2 other meals at the cabin, and it was great. The mousekeeper does your dishes in the diswasher every morning.
We also liked having the separate bedroom to send the kids to, so we could relax out in the living room at night. There are a set of bunkbeds and a dbl bed. The pull down bed in the LR is very comfy, and I am picky!
The only thing we missed was the 2nd. bathroom. You have to decide how important the second bath is.
I'd be happy to answer any questions! :)

If money is an issue, I would go with one room at POR. The trundle bed rooms sleep 5. Although there is only four in my family, we were placed in a trundle bed room and there would have been more than enough room. It sounds as though you would like a little privacy, but if you could do without for the week, you could save some major money. Just thought I would give you another option to ponder.

Thanks guys...does give me food for thought. DisneyMom...I think yours is one of 2 reviews I've ever read where the transportation didn't bother you! And with 5 small children!!! And going back mid day for meals!!! How on earth did you manage that? And more specifically, how much time did you allow to go from FW to MGM or AKL and would you have done 2 "far away" parks in one day? Or did you spend quite a bit of time at the resort?

If we do stay PO (and I am leaning towards that at this point...have to make up my mind in 4 days as we're using the Cdn @ par deal) we will definitely do breakfasts in the room. I have some wonderful PSs booked and hope I don't have to cancel them, but... We'll just take it step by step and see how we are doing when we get a week or 2 out from departure date.

Thanks again for the input!
