Is there anywhere to download music legally(and pay for it) that is Ipod compatible besides Itunes? We already know about limewire, etc...looking for a pay(legal) way to do it that is compatible with an Ipod besides Itunes. I already know for sure that Walmart and Yahoo Music are NOT ipod compatible.

Now, the itunes questions:
1)is there a monthly subscription or do you just pay per download?
2)can you put itunes downloads on other non-ipod MP3 players also, or only on Ipods

Thanks!

We use allofmp3.com Its inexpensive and work with our two Ipods.

1. you pay as you download.

2. yes you can put them on other mp3 players. you can download into mp4 format and go from there, or you can download in ipod form, write to disk, rip from disk, then you have music that is compatable to any mp3. (we learned this on accident)

You pay per download (.99 per song). There are no subscriptions, so you keep your music forever. There are some podcasts you can subscribe to.

You can't put iTunes downloads on other non-ipod MP3 players. (well, as Sparx said, I guess like anything there are ways around it, but it would be a pain in the butt)

Thanks! I just went and browsed and still can't figure out the price because it's based on mbs or something....what does a song cost? Is there a subscription cost or just per download? Does this work easily with the ipods? What about other mp3 players? Is this site technically "legal"?

Thanks!

Not really legal. Yes, you pay. But it is a Russian company that doesn't pay royalties. Legal in Russia, tho.

Nope. See my other post. You pay for bandwitdth used. Most songs cost about a nickel. IT all depends on how much compression you use.

Paypal no longer will allow Paypal to be used for payment. That oughtta tell you something.

I'm sure people worked trying to do it for awhile then figured that out. I actually wasn't trying to. We burned it off on cd, then we lost our music(we lost everything, the pc messed up). so we ripped from the cd and put the music back on the pc. It came back in a regular format. I don't think it is techincally illegal, since we've already bought the rights to use the music. I don't know if they want people doing that though. ;)

So, all you Ipod users out there that download legally.....do you use Itunes? Or somewhere else? Details please!

Also, tell me if I have this correct...if you want to put Itunes music on a non-ipod mp3, it is complicated and requires burning a CD first and then putting it back on?

I'm asking the questions for 2 new ipod owners. Both families have an ipod and a regular mp3 player and are looking for a way to legally get music that can be put on either the ipod or the mp3 player or both. We've found out by default that all that napster music does NOT go onto an ipod which is a real bummer.

i use itunes... just cos it's easiest to use what came with the ipod kwim? and i've never really had any problems with the software... (unlike the 'pod its self... bah)

not too sure about putting itunes downloads on other mp3 players... i guess it woould work on the burning them to a cd then back again way.... seems a little long-winded.. i'm sure there's an easier way...

a good place to check out is www.apple.com support site... there they have message boards for ipod owners and if you do a search someone might have already asked this question, or will be able to help you anyways...

good luck!

Thats what I have done. Just burned it to a cd then loaded it up into Itunes from the cd.

I have Raphsody. You pay per burn with them but its an easy process. Then I take the song I just burned and just load it up into Itunes.

That would be what you would need to do, since iTunes is an AAC file when it comes down from apple.

Real at the very least USED to be compatible. Apple have probably closed the loop hole, however.

Depends. iTunes is a pay per purchase system, with TV episodes, short films, music and music videos available for download.

iTunes downloads will be iPod specific I'm afraid. As others have indicated, there is a way around - burn the music files onto an Audio CD and then rip the tracks into the appropriate media player - but that's long, time consuming and a general pain.
