Forgive me....I am new!! We are planning our first Disney trip, DD will be 7 and DS will be 4. Do I need to have one autograph book for each child? I am pretty sure the answer will be "YES!".......however (unless I come up with a better idea), my plan when we arrive home is to take the autograph book apart and make a mini scrapbook album using pics and autographs. With 2 autograph books, I will NEVER get this task done!!! Any scrappers (or nonscrappers) out there have any suggestions? :confused3

It's up to you - if you children don't mind sharing the book, and the idea you have for scrapbooking the pages with the photos, I think your plan sounds great!

I would, each child is going to want to meet the character and get the autograph, it kind of breaks the ice for them to have the book.

In addition to that, if your child has a name tag or if his/her name is printed in the front of the book the charcter will personalize the autograph. Some characters even personalize if they overhear you speaking to the child by name. So yes - I always do two autograph books, one for each of my dd's.

Also FWIW my dd's would NEVER let me do anything with the autograph book, it is precious to them!! They waited patiently and worked hard to get those autographs. My dd's keep the books on the bookshelf and look at it often and I don't think I could have taken it apart to scrap.

One tip, we always put dd's names, our last name and the resort we are staing in on the front of the book as well as dh's cell phone # just in case it got lost and someone wants to try and return it.

Not to be a drag - just to warn you !!

How about getting 3 books? :confused3

That way the kids can keep theirs intact and you can use the extra one for your scrap book.

:confused3 You could always have the kids make their own autograph books to take with them. They would already then be a sort of scrap book, then you could use some of your favorite pics and autographs for your scrap book.

I am a Creative Memories consultant, so I was really worried about the whole autograph thing! I cut 3x5 pieces of white paper, punched a hole and put them on a ring. My DD4 took the whole thing with her and the characters signed the small paper. (We only did 1 because my DS2 didn't really understand.) Then I came home and used a 7x7 photo album for my autograph book. It was really quick and easy that way. Now if I could only get the rest of my photos in an album!!!

We only do one. I also put the autograph next to the picture in the scrapbook. My kids are good about taking turns handing the book to the characters, but they don't know any differently since we have always just had one.

They now make the autograph books that have a plastic photo sleeve opposite each autograph page. They were a little more than the regular books...but my kids really enjoyed putting the photos together in the books. It was sort of their own keepsake. I also like scrapbooking so I had double prints with the characters, to which I added the autograph stickers that I purchased from the scrapbooking store in DTD. I'm sure they're also sold at the stores in the parks and they really do look like the autographs. They also have a set of stamps to be used with ink pads that contain the autographs. Have a great time...there's nothing like that first time you experience the magic of Disney with your kids!! :wave2:

I vote for 2 books! On our first trip my sons were 18 months and 3 years old. On that trip we only had 1 book. But on our last trip they were 3 and 5 and they each wanted a book. :goofy: :stitch:

I agree that the book really breaks the ice with the characters! I have tons of pictures of characters signing their names with the books on top of my DS head and funny things like that! If your children are feeling even a little anxious about getting close to the characters, the book gives them a reason to go up!

Near the end of our trips we would ask our sons to just go get a picture (not another autograph because we had already seen the character) but they wanted to ask for an autograph. It made them feel more comfortable with the characters.

My DS refused to let me take his book apart! :confused3 :teeth: So I photo copied the autographs onto acid free paper and used those in my scrapbook. :sunny:

We went to WDW 2 1/2 years ago when our children were 2 and 3 (almost 4). They each had their own autograph books and loved them. The still get the books out today and look at them and ask whose signature they are looking at. Believe it or not the eldest will look at the book and it reminds her of rides she liked and even where she met the character.

I would get 2 books. However, the 3 book suggestion sounds great since you are a scrapbooker.

Also, the autograph book are less than $10.00 each. We got these on the first day and that satisfied them in regards to buying other things throughout the parks. When they wanted something else we just reminded them of the books and showed them the autographs. That usually helped to take their mind off of the new thing they wanted. (I understand that your children are older so this may not work as well for you in regards to limiting purchases.)

I have 3 children. On the first trip with all 3 my youngest was only 11 months old and I didn't get her a book. On the next trip they were 5 1/2, nearly 4, and nearly 2. They each had a book. I brought just my DS when he was 4 1/2 and used his old book. Then on our next family trip I took DD 2 days early. I bought her a new book and when the others got there they shared it. It was SO much easier for ME to only have to worry about where 1 book was. They took turns handing the book to the characters and it worked out great.

I'm taking just DD to celebrate her 7th birthday and I'm going to make my own autograph cards out of 4 x 6 unruled index cards. I purchased a small clipboard at walmart for under $1 that will make signing the cards easy. These will go into a photo album when we get home along with the photos.

I've got 5 kids so the thought of waiting for 5 autograph books to be taken out and signed with each character was too much for me. We had one book and the kids knew they had to take turns getting the autograph. Then again, with 5 kids in the family they're very used to taking turns so it wasn't that big of a deal for them. :)
