(2) Gosselin kids expelled from school for bullying

^Agreed!

Personally, I think Keith and Becki Dilley have done an incredible job with the specials I've seen through the years. I can't believe their six kids are now seniors, just like my son is. Seems like only yesterday I watched their specials on ABC by Diane Sawyer, and it seems like yesterday my 17 1/2 year old was born. Time has flown by so fast. Their kids seem to be extremely well-adjusted. Maybe that's because they only had yearly TV specials and not a series on TLC for many, many years like the Gosselin kids.
I believe the Dilley parents pulled one or two of their kids out of school because they were being bullied and homeschooled two the first year and then the other four decided they wanted to be homeschooled too.

The one boy that was the dancer, was being bullied and they decided to not single him out for homeschooling so they had another one of the boys join as well.

I wish the Gosselin's would just go away and do the updates every year or so like these other families. Unfortunately, Kate is holding on tight to her "celebrity" status and she wouldn't leave the spotlight, even if it hurts her kids in the long run.
Regardless of who the children are, I think it's ridiculous to expel 6 year olds.

I don't. If kids are acting out in school, causing constant disruptions to the school day and bullying other students, their parents need to either do something to fix it or the kids need to be moved to a more suitable environment. Sometimes that means removing them from the school.

Why? Why do we need updates on these people's lives? :confused3

Ah, but so much better to start all over again tearing the parents apart, rather than just admit this is not that unusual. Just about all of what is being discussed is old news. I see the same explanations from the same people (just like you see me here again) as to why the kids act out. We all know it's because of Kate LOL. No one elses kids ever act like these kids, at least not the children of the disers. We all have perfect families, perfect well behaved kids, we all talk to every member of our family (including out in-laws and every one of our adult children)..yada yada yada.

Of course this is good for TLC as well. More interest. As was often said in the old thread that got closed..any interest in them, is better than none. They (the kids) are being talked about all over the internet..that's good for TLC. And surprisingly, just when they were on TV again.

Well I can guarantee you that none of my friends or my kids or my kids friend have gotten suspended or expelled for being bullies. That hardly equates to perfect, get real. You can't excuse this behavior, it isn't acceptable, and because we all se how Kate acts, I think we can at least in part blame her.

You don't need updates on their lives if it doesn't interest you, but face it, when a woman pops out six babies at once (or more) people have an interest in that. :confused3 It's newsworthy because people have that interest. If the families decided to do those updates, then great for them. Obviously people watch the shows or they wouldn't keep doing them.

I think there is a huge difference between a one hour Diane Sawyer special with the Dilley six-pack once every year or so and watching Kate drag her little money bags around the US.

Where did I say I excused this behavior. Putting words in my mouth?

None of mine have been suspended, let alone expelled, but other children have. I didn't say bullying is right..just that these are NOT the only little kids who have bullied or acted out at school, if this happened as reported. I have no idea if the kids are seeing Kate bullying people.

Expelling in our area doesn't happen often in the public school, but when my kids went to private school, they were a bit quicker to expell for misbehavior.

Just like other things, right now people are very very sensitive to bully's. I was bullied in school, although it was not the big deal it is now. My mom talked to his mom, she whipped him with a belt (something that most people don't do any more, thank God), and it ended.

I was making the point that these kids aren't perfect, most kids aren't. I've read enough right here on the Dis, to see that lots and lots of families/children have problems, and none of them were on TV.

Not sure why you made this personal, and I didn't say I excused it :confused3

Agreed. None of my kids, nephews and neices, friends' kids, or kids' friends have been expelled either. There have been a few detentions, but I can't even remember any suspensions.

If people (any people) see expelling kindergarteners as *not that unusual* I wonder where they live, how they live, and what their definition of *normal* is. :sad2:

This is a sign of distress from some of the Gosselin kids. And yes, I do look at and question the parental decisions. Sorry, but these kids are 6 and 10.

Sounds more like a circus sideshow then anything else. Let's pay to see the 2-headed cow or the bearded lady. I don't know why somebody having a family equates to it being newsworthy, 6 kids or not. :confused3

It is not that unusual for kids to bully others. It is unusual, which several people have noted, to expell them. More likely to happen in a private school than a public. Not likely to happen in either.
Don't put words in my mouth.

Edited to say: Not worth the rest of the paragraph. Same people, same bullying.

I have to agree with you.. I've heard about/seen some detentions, a couple of suspensions (all in junior high school and up - both public and private schools), but never "expelled" - and certainly not at 6 years old..

And then there's the matter of there being two of them (possibly 3 - still not clear on that) from the same family and something just doesn't add up.. (Assuming of course, that any of the Gosselin children have actually been suspended and expelled..)

And if the school was just tired of dealing with the publicity and/or Kate, wouldn't they have expelled all of them? :confused3

You said, this wasn't unusual. You implied sarcastically, that we are all perfect with perfect families. Sorry, but this sounds like excusing to me. You can see the anger in those kids if you watch close enough and to just brush it off, and I don't know many kids that bully. I won't and can't excuse bullying and I wouldn't do it for anyone, including Kate.

And even if I did know kids that bullied, doesn't make it right. Why should her kids be treated differently. Private schools don't put up with much, they can get rid of anyone they want to. Maybe Kate is such a pain, that they are looking for a reason, and this behavior was a very good reason. But I won't seep it under the rug.

You may not have seen it, or heard it, but there was bullying going on right in the school district where your GD goes to school last year, Not 6 years old, but not much older either. Talk to the principal there..you might be very surprised.

Never mind, they can't do anything wrong in your eyes, so why even try.

Not to mention that expelling a few of the kids is going to bring more publicity to the school. I assume if they wanted these kids gone because of the attention and publicity, the last thing they would have done was expell a bunch of 6 year olds. If they resorted to expulsion, and just a few of them its pretty clear there is a big problem with those 2 (or 3) kids.
There was a boy in my kid's school a few years ago, he was expelled in 1st grade. He was very violent, and the last straw was when he attacked a girl in the classroom, and then the teacher. Things like this do happen in schools all over the country but since most parents don't exploit their kids lives for a TV show, the general public is none the wiser.

I stick by that, that bullying in school is not unusual.

You said, this wasn't unusual. You implied sarcastically, that we are all perfect with perfect families.

Yes, I was sarcastically saying that we are all perfect..the sarcastic part being that we are not. And we aren't. They aren't either.

I did not say it was right. That's the words that gets put in my mouth.

I'm sorry for thinking these kids are still cute kids. There aren't many 6 year olds that I do think are bad kids. I wish the best for them. I feel bad that from now on, anything they do wrong will be all over the internet. I do hope that this will be an isolated case, and the end to whatever they may have done wrong.

In our school, you hit and you get in major trouble, they have a very strict no bullying policy and they will suspend for that, in a heart beat. I saw the behavior of those girls when Kate was organizing, and her friend was there helping. They were so nasty to her son, if that had been my son, I would have grabbed him and left. They were horrible to him, pure brats. go back and watch it, I would be ashamed, also even kate mentioned when the kids were little about how they fought so much with their little cousin. Again, rotten behavior. This type of discounting behavior and saying it happens all the time, is excusing it in my mind. You either correct it or kids assume it is right behavior. If I saw my kid acting like that, well lets just say mine know better.

No they aren't wrong, but their mother and to a lesser extent their father is wrong. All kate does is excuse it or blow it off as normal. I never said they weren't cute, I even said earlier that Mady seemed to be turning out just fine and seemed fairly level headed, but those little ones have issues, and until Kate gets over herself, it will only get worse. She has those kids believing that they are God's gift to the world and they deserve more and better than anyone else, that isn't their fault, but it is hers for not correcting it.

And they should have a strict no bullying policy. So, I take it your school has had some bullying too? It's not just in our area? It's harder for the public schools to take action, but the private schools seem to act faster and out they go.

When I worked in the Manhattan Prosecutors office, I saw some truly bad kids, even younger than six. While I think these kids are exploited and spoiled (what a combo), I don't think they are bad kids either.
