Do I feel sorry for the kids who were bullied? I sure do! My DD was emotionally bullied in 1st grade by a nasty little Queen Bee and she is currently being bullied by a boy in her 6th grade class. I would never dream of wanting the 1st grade Queen Bee to be expelled from school and the school is working with my DD and the boy but I don't want HIM to be expelled either.Agreed, if it were the child of someone on these boards who was their victim, we would have had another type of thread entirely.
I think that many of us feel that the school went overboard in expelling a first grader for bullying. Like I said in an earlier post, it is common for kids to still be physical at that age and have low impulse control. I just looked at the school district data for my city and there have been ZERO expulsions in the last 11 years for preK-5th grade kids with an average yearly student body of 11,000 kids. Not a SINGLE expulsion. It's not that I or my school district doesn't take bullying seriously. We do. It's that the private schools don't need to work WITH the kids to make it better ... it's easier to just kick them out and make them look like little demons.
