My friend and I vacation without hubbies every year, and this time with our kids 13, 13, 11, and 8. She flew in from Chicago, and me form CT.
All our flights were on time. She picked up the rental car and off we went! We checked in at the Royal Pacific around 3:00pm. We were greated by hula dancers and a pretty toucan in the lobby. Check in however wasn't very pretty. The line wasn't too long, but moved slowly. We we got to the counter, to check in... we had requested adjoining rooms, our rooms were not ready. OK it's now about 3:45pm we decide to head for the pool. We have the bellman hold our bags, and off we go to change for the pool. The pool area is very nice. Good service poolside... but the prices are pretty crazy. I beleive it was 10.99 for chicken fingers, and 8.75 for a Pina Colada! We were hungry and ordered 2 chicken fingers and 3 drinks... something like 52.00... WOW... ok It's now 6:30pm we figure our room MUST be ready. My son isn't feeling well, needs the bathroom and to lie down. We go to the front desk... SORRY... your room s are NOT ready! I explained how my son was feeling.. and that rooms are promised by 4:00pm and it's now going on 7:00pm and we haven't got a room yet. I'm sorry was the answer, the rooms haven't been cleaned yet. That wasn't good enough.. my son was turning green. I said.. tell me you have not 2 rooms available in this whole hotel..." that's right mam.. No rooms right now" I asked for an upgraded room.. and he told me no.. not at the price YOUR paying for the room. I had the entertainment rate of 109.00 a night. Sorry...!! with a grin on his face. So I asked to see the manager. He came over , I explained what was going on. and LOW AND BEHOLD... 2 rooms appeared on the screen and was waiting for us. He did upgrade us to an executive suite.. which was great.. however they were NOT adjoining.. but were across from each other. The other part of check in was hard to take was.. the fact we were Loews members... they wouldn't give us the wine and newspaper they said we had to stay at rack rates to get that. I also had my kids report cards with me, to get the grade A kids program.. and they tried to tell us no because we had the entertainment rate and didn't qualify. I brought with me the post card Loews had sent me, and they did allow the Grade A kids to go on the room keys.. there were no more braclets left!
Ok now on to the rooms... we were in tower 2 and on the 5th floor. The rooms were quite nice... a bit small for a suite, one sink outside the toilet area. One king bed ,2 chairs and a table, and 1 chair and an ottoman. The other room had a pull out sofa a desk and coffee table. My room on entering hadn't been vaccuumed, and there were no soap or toilet paper, and the tub wasn't clean. So I call down, and they brought soap and toilet paper, never vaccuumed or cleaned the tub. That night I did get wine in my room, however I had requested zin and got red... oh well... I got wine anyway! So it's getting late.. we take the boat over to Hard Rock and swim in their pool and ate poolside. That was a problem... don't know if they were understaffed or what but we didn't have a waiter come over to us for 45min Then we finally got the food.. and never saw a soul to get a check. We actually left the table to check on DD in the pool came back and the table it had been cleared. I saw a befuddled waitress looking around.. so we paid the bill ..she apologized profusly and we were off to the RPH. Got settled in and had planned Discovery Cove for the next day. We all couldn't wait!
