We're going with my sister, her DH, and 2 kids. They'll have Genie+, while the 4 of us will use DAS. We'd like to ride together as much as possible.

Any tips on how to make it work? Is it possible to request DAS return times to match the G+ time? Are they usually similar?

Thanks!

No. DAS times are based on the length of the standby line. If it's 12 PM and the wait for Space Mountain is 45 minutes, you get a return for the length of the line (so, 45 minutes) minus 10 minutes. So you would get your return time, then go and get in line in the lightning lane at 12:35.

Genie+ times are based on availability and may be hours out or sold out entirely. If it's 10 am the next Genie+ time for Haunted Mansion could be all the way at 2:45 PM whereas the standby line is 30 minutes, so you'd come back for DAS in 20, at 10:20 am. Or for a super popular ride like Frozen there could be no more genie+ return times at all for the rest of the day as they "sell out."

The best way to try to ride together would be having your Sister and her fam get in the standby line at the same time you get a DAS time and then meet up the front once you both make it through the line. CMs at the front can usually help facilitate that, sometimes letting one half of the party wait while you link up. It won't work on all rides, but it's the best bet you have.

I also see that you say there is only 4 of you on the pass. You can have up to 6, so you could put the kids on the DAS pass and then only your sister and her husband wait in the standby line and you all meet up. Kids under age 7 can't ride alone in a row though, so keep that in mind..

Thanks! That's going to be a challenge.

I guess we could wait to request our return times to match their G+ times, when available.

DAS return times don’t have an end time (they only say that you cannot enter the LL line before a given time). So, as long as your return time is at or before their G+ time, you can go together. Not a very efficient use of the DAS (since you cannot get another return time until you use your current return time, but it is possible).

Genie+ times can be much further out than the posted standby. However DAS Return Times don't expire so it can be held.

I haven't done this but it might help: obtain a DAS Return Time for the first G+ ride, then for the next G+ ride, etc. Moving down the list of G+ rides as they get booked. Keep in mind that G+ reservations may not come in time-order (they might reserve a 3pm time before a 12:30pm on a different attraction), and that you can only have 1 DAS Return Time.

You can't request times, the system assigns you the standby wait time. So it would mean you watching closely the wait times so you could grab a DAS at approximately the wait time before their Genie+ time.

Honestly it's going to be a drag and so much work ~ you really are better off getting Genie+ yourself, link your families on MDE then have one person book for all of you. It would be worth the cost to me.

Then use the DAS on some rides in between G+ rides. You could at the parks see if they will add all of them to your DAS list then at the rides pick 6 who get to ride while 2 sit out, snack or bathroom break.

DAS and Genie+ aren't designed to match up. If you have two groups that want to ride together you'd both need G+. DAS is an alternative to waiting in the standby line not an alternative to buying G+.

I never said it was. That's a rude assumption. I just wanted to ride some rides with the rest of our families.

Maybe there is some tone being picked up here that wasn’t intended but I was just stating the facts regarding the design of the systems. The two systems aren’t compatible so groups that want to ride together are best served by being on the same system. If the other half of your group can get on a DAS that would work too.

That's what I meant. I'd request a return time, not a specific time. I would just have to match the standby time to the genie+ window. We'd only be doing this for 2-3 rides, not for everything the other party wants to ride, so not a huge deal.

Honestly, getting Genie+ is not worth it because my DD can only tolerate a handful of rides per day.

I wish I could purchase it for DH and DS only.
You can. When you go to purchase for the day you have to check who in the party you're purchasing for so you can select whichever subset you like unless they have changed it very recently.

I must have misunderstood what I read about it. That's good to know. Thanks!
