Next month I am going to be at Mercy College for a conference June 22-25. I just received my conference packet that shows everything being done by 5:00 each evening. I'm all alone at this thing, flying into Westchester Tuesday night, taking a cab to the Tarrytown Hilton, and cabbing it over to the college and back Wed. - Fri. My plane departs Friday afternoon, but that leaves Wed. and Thurs. night completely open.

Here's my question: what should I do with my evenings? Alone in NY? Should I take the train into the city from the college in the evenings? I can't imagine finally getting to NY and just going back to the hotel, but I'm also not a solo traveler and haven't the first clue how close the college is to other things and how I could get around without spending a fortune.

I need some help from the locals!

here's the metro north schedule -- I don't live in westchester so I can't give you any tips about that.

nyctourist.com has lots of tourist information.

the train takes you to Grand Central Station, on the east side at 42nd Street. you could take a bus, a taxi or even walk acorss to the west side, and go to Times Square -- you can visit Madame tussaud's, maybe take in a show. you might want to purchase a ticket in advance, though you could try the box office just before performance time.

check the times for the Observation Deck at the Emprie State buidling -- the view at night is wonderful.
