2 couples--Is a lockoff or dedicated better?

We are traveling with my SIL/BIL, so 2 couples. We know we want to do a two bedroom for the trip but what is better? We like them so sharing isn't a problem but since this is our first 2 bedroom I want to know what is best (we are looking at OWK hoping to move to BCV or BWV at 7 months)

a lockoff would mean that the party in the studio would have their own entrance/exit and their own kitchenette. also, if they decide to hang out in their studio, they would have a sofa to sit on (except in OKW - which is all 2 queens).

We always go with a lock-off when travelling with our friends - as PP said, they get their own entrance and kitchenette - the dedicated ones go through your entrance and there is extra storage instead of a kitchenette. Also I'm pretty sure that the dedicated we had once at OKW didn't have it's own balcony like the studios do in a lock-off.

In this scenario, I would take the lockoff. There is no need for the extra bed, and the extra sofa, extra living room area per se is good to take a break at night (or whenever it is you hang out in the room). Each couple can have privacy away from the other. The extra kitchenette is good if the other couple gets up earlier, and could make their own coffee, or heat something up, or just have something in the their fridge without the possibility of waking you up by getting something from the main kitchen.

Other than that, I don't see it as a big deal if you don't get a choice due to availability, but if you have a choice, lockoff would be mine.

Just be aware that BWV has no dedicated 2BRs and at BCV it will be more likely that you can get a lock-off rather than a dedicated at 7 months out if you can get one at all. Thus, you may be considering an issue that likely will make no difference. Also note that the dedicated BCV 2BRs can have either the couch or the second queen bed in the second bedroom. At OKW, since both the lock-offs and the dedicateds have two queens in the second bedroom, the only real difference you are looking at is whether you want the mini-kitchen provided by the lock-off. If they like to keep some drinks in their own small fridge in their own room, then lock-off would be the choice. Otherwise, I do not personally believe it makes much difference which you get.

It would be a different issue if you were also trying for AKV Kidani. The dedicateds have two queens and the lock-offs the queen and couch in the second bedroom. However, the advantage of the dedicated there is that the balcony for it is one balcony running the whole length of the unit whereas the lock-off has the 1BR and studio balconies separated.

It really depends on how much privacy you all really want. Do you want to hang out at night in the comon living room area and kitchen or do you prefer to both retreat to your own bedrooms etc. at night. If I were the other couple I would want my own little kitchenette, the ability to make coffee without disturbing anyone else, (other than hubby) is a plus!

You can make requests but as you know there are no guarantees as far as what you will get!

If I were the couple staying in the studio, I would prefer the dedicated to have the extra closet space and counter space.

Why not just ask your other couple to see what they prefer?

When you book and have a choice between a dedicated and a lock-off, that is not a request, it is a confirmed booking and I have always had it stated on my confirmation if it was dedicated or not.

A lock off would also give them their own climate control and safe.

I asked SIL and this was the selling point. She wanted to control her own temp! It was funny. So we are officially booked at OKW for Princess Half weekend. Now I am just waiting for the 7 month window to open so I can fight with half the world to move to a host resort! I wish OKW was a host resort, some people say it is close enough to walk to the start from! Keeping my fingers crossed for an Epcot room but AKV are a host too so that is a good option too!
