So I asked a two part question a few months back and got a lot of great feedback but I am still a little confused on the 2nd part that got skipped over a little.

I have 100 point contract with AKL and 150 point contract with SSR

I need to book at AKL for 224 points but only have 181 AKL points without borrowing.

Can I borrow the points needed then when 7 months comes around switch out the AKL borrowed points for SSR current points??

I think it was mentioned that borrowed points can't be banked but I'm not too sure what the procedure is.

Thanks for your help!!

No, not as asked. Here are the options I see.

  • Book the entire reservation with AKV points then change any days that are still available to SSR then bank the subsequent AKV points. You'll effectively end up with banked points for the trip and banked points in the follow UY with less current points for that UY.
  • Book part without borrowing then hope to book the rest with SSR. You could book a split stay as a backup.
  • Pay for transfer of AKV points.
  • Rent an AKV stay that matches up and link them to your then current AKV reservation.
As long as you aren't looking at Value, you should be OK with any of those if you plan exactly 7 months out and use the wait list appropriately.

My understanding is that can only reallocate points if the UY matches (i.e. Must be same "membership") and there is availability remaining at 7 months. Otherwise it would circumvent the whole home resort booking window. That being said as Dean pointed out you will not be able to return the borrowed points to their original UY so you would have to use them and bank 43 points from the current UY. This would pose a problem if you do not plan to use those 43 points during your next UY (i.e. Wanted to bank those points).

Thanks all. I think I'm starting to get it.

We ended up moving our trip up to May So now we are with in the 7 month mark anyway.

It all worked out and no need to borrow anything.

Thanks again!!
