2-BR @ OKW-dedicated vs. lock-off, also CM's comments

We just made ressies at OKW for a 2 BR. I remember someone saying to be sure to get a dedicated unit, so I asked. The CM assured me that "Oh, yes-you're guaranteed to get a dedicated because you reserved far enough ahead. We only give the 2 BR lock-offs to people who reserve later, after we've given out all the dedicated, then we tell them." This brings up 2 questions 1. What is a dedicated vs. lock-off? I only asked for one because someone mentioned it, but don't know why. Also, 2. Does this say anything about the room assignments at OKW, that maybe rooms are assigned in order of making the reservation, not in order of check-in, as some people thought?
BTW, we got our confirmation today-no mention of dedicated or lock-off.

A dedicated 2 bdrm is a unit with only one door to the outside, much like a 2 bdrm apt. A lock-off, is like the units at BWV, with one studio and a one bedroom with a connecting door. Each unit has a door to the outside.

Guess I'll find out Jan 1 how they are handling room assignments. We've never had a problem getting what we've requested.

They book the dedicated 2 bedrooms first so that they can book the lockoffs as separate 1 bedrooms and studios first. As far as I know, there are no dedicated 1 bedrooms or studios at OKW (or very few).

When I made my reservation for a 2 bedroom back in April they booked it as a dedicated or a lockoff instead of a request. I actually had to book the dedicated for all nights but 1 and book a lock off for the last night ( they waitlisted me for a dedicated the last night which did come through). I also made a ressie for friends for a lockoff. My ressie said two bedroom and theirs just said lockoff. I am not saying that they would not switch you if it was not available when you checked in but they did seem like they were reserving either a dedicated or a lockoff not just taking a request.

In the dedicated 2-bedroom it really is a second bedroom. I'm not sure of the exact configuration differences except that, as mentioned, there is no seperate entrance from the outside. The non-dedicated is really a studio. It has it's own door and it also has the convenience of the kitchenette in the room -- coffee maker, frig etc.

Which one is "better" really depends on your needs. If you've got another family or couple in the bedroom it might be nice for them to be able to make their own snacks and coffee and go in and out without disturbing others. If you've got small children, you might not want them to have any of the above as they could be safety hazards.

I did not know to request a lockoff (due to MIL & SIL using the other bedroom). I tried to switch from dedicated to lockoff several months ago & said they were already booked. So they must assign them in advance.

Still looking to switch a 2 bedroom dedicated to a lockoff for 12/1-12/6.

We prefer the dedicated because it has a huge closet where the exterior door would be. We did request a lock off last year, because we wanted to downsize to a 1 bedroom mid trip, and didn't want to move. They did this for us, and it was very easy. No one ever was assigned to the lock off room when we downsized, so there was no noise problem.

Debbie and others FYI. We once stayed in a studio on the 3rd floor of building 38 and it was a dedicated studio. We were surprised it was dedicated, so you're right, there are very few.

When I called 11 mos out to book a 2br@VWL, I was not sure if we wanted a lock-off or dedicated, as we were not 100% sure who was all going. If extended family went we wanted a lock-off, if just us a dedicated would suite us better. The CM told me to book a lock-off as there are fewer available and try and switch to a dedicated later if we wanted. Extended family was a no-go so I called about 7 mos out and switched to a dedicated with no problem. They did send a new confirmation that stated Dedicated 2br..........................
