SIL's family wants to vacation at WDW with us in the next 18 months or so. We were thinking of trying to rent points for a 2 BR unit at OKW. We are a family of 3- me, DH, and DD7. SIL's family is 5- SIL, BIL, DD8, DS6, and DD4.

Will there be enough room for all of us? I know the occupancy for the 2 BRs is 8, but will that be a tight fit? We don't want to be falling all over each other, but we don't have the $$ for a Grand Villa.

Will we be OK with a 2 BR?? Thanks!

As far as "roomy" enough, probably. With 3 girls and a boy, sleeping arrangements may be a little flaky, I guess the boy could sleep on an areobed (which your in-laws would have to supply, along with the linens for it.) Or the 3 girls could share the queen fold-out and the boy and his parents could share the second bedroom.

Be sure to request a bldg number of 30 or higher so you have a second entrance to the master bathroom.

I agree. I would take an air bed for the boy and let your DD take the sofa bed. Another option is to use the cushions from the sofa as a bed on the floor for the extra child while your DD is using the pull out.

Do you get along well enough to be in such close quarters for the length of your vacation?

We've vacationed with my brother's family in a 2 bedroom at the BWV and it worked out just fine. But there were only 6 of us, so we were able to keep the living room/kitchen area free - I love having that area available for anyone who likes to get up early or stay up late. Much nicer than having people (even kids) sleeping in the living room.

If you get along well, OKW is the place to be - its 2 bedroom units are the largest among the DVC resorts.

Best wishes -

So true! They may want to consider a 2 bedroom lockoff, it gives each family a little more control over their privacy, yet allows them to easily share the living area when they want to.

how big is the 6th year?

there is a love seat (OKW is the only one to have this) that he might fit on.

You must bring your own sheets, pillows and blankets for this.

there is a king bed in the master, a queen sleeper in the livingroom, 2 queen beds in the second bedroom.

so I think you will be fine.

the blankets and pillows (and sometimes the sheets) for the sleeper sofa are in the closet in the master bedroom.

if you bring an air bed - the boy can sleep in the laundy room (for privacy).

I might be tempted to put all the kids in the second bedroom and have your SIL and her husband sleep on the sleeper sofa.So the adults can enjoy the livingroom after the kids are in bed asleep.

We've done it twice.

Once for 2 weeks at OKW with youngest son's best friend's family so we had 4 adults and 4 boys (aged 16,14,13,11). The parents and 2 sons shared the 2nd bedroom, DH and I had the master bedroom and our 2 sons shared the sofa bed. We all had a great time with no feeling of being cramped.

Second time was 2 weeks at OKW and 1 week at Vero with our friends who had 2 daughters. Again parents and children (girls aged 15 and 12) had the 2nd bedroom, DH and I had the master and son and friend (both aged 17 ) had the sofa bed. Eldest son joined us for the middle week so DH and I had the sofa bed and the 3 teenage lads shared the master bed. We felt we had plenty of room for all of us.

If you get on well and want to make the most of the holiday then you wont be in the accommodation enough for it to be a problem. We ate in sometimes, the kids went off to the pools without the adults sometimes, each family did their own thing some days and we never felt cramped or under each other's feet.

Have also been in a 2 bed at OKW for 2 week with my brother and his wife - that worked fine too,

We had 7 and 2 kids under 3 and had a hard time. But that could be because I like thinks neat and tidy and sis felt since she was on vacation that she didn't have to pick anything up. Make sure that you have preset ground rules!

It can be done. It'll be a bit "cozy" and I am not sure if the laundry area is big enough to hold a twin bed, especially if someone is going to need to use the bathroom during the night.

Are the kids able to share the 2 beds in the 2nd BR??? I know one is a boy, but, at the risk of horrifying the world, will it kill a 6 year old boy & his 4 year old sister to share a bed for a week or so on vacation? As children, my brother & I did this when we went on vacation and we are both normal contributing members of society with no lasting psychological scars! ;) The 2 beds in the 2nd BR are queen size, so they are certainly large enough to put 2 children ages 8 & younger in each. That leaves the livingroom free for the adults to hang out in after the kids go to sleep, & then the 2nd set of adults uses the sleeper sofa, for sleeping only. They can use the second BR for all their morning bathing, dressing etc. Then you don't have to deal with the aerobed.

I completely agree. As I said in my earlier reply we had 3 teenage lads sharing the huge bed in the master bedroom (they were all tall but fairly slim lads) and they all slept well so 2 small children in a queen size bed should be absolutely fine.
