I could have sworn that I saw a post on this board sometime ago and somebody had mentioned that they used their points to stay in a suite at the Grand Californian. However when I spoke with my guide yesterday before purchasing into SSR she said you could not get suites at DLR only regular rooms. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I was hoping to convience my family to go to WDW this year for Christmas, but it has been decided that my daughter is still too young for WDW (she is 2) and the parks will be so packed. So we have decided to go back to our original plan of going to DLR, but now that I have a DVC membership might as well use the points instead of losing them. Thanks for the input. If anybody can confirm that you can use points for a 2 bedroom suite at the Grand Californian and happen to know an approximate points amount that would be great also.
Thanks.

I haven't stayed at GC on points (yet) :wizard: but looking at the points chart, there is nothing that specifically says 2br suite. However it looks like all the available views are there, but I don't know about the 2 br suite.

Depending on when you are planning to go, the points range from 24/39 for standard and 43/70 concierge theme park view in the low season to 33/53 for a standard and 57/93 for concierge theme park view in the high season.

All of this info is available on the DVC member site under point charts too.

I got a quote from MS in 2005 for a 2 BR suite at the DL hotel. It was about 60-65 points per night, but this was after they had lowered the DL Hotel points for the 50th and before they raised the points for weekends. We are in a perpetual points deficit, so we ended up paying for the room with cash. Thru AAA, the room was about $600 per night.

Call your guide back and tell her you don't think you will be buying now if you can't stay at the GC in a suite on points. Trust me, she'll get you the info.

You do realize that DLR will also be packed at Christmas as well?

Best of luck -- Suzanne

:) Thanks for the information. I had a hard time believing that you would not be able to use points for something. I realize it will be busy at DLR at Christmas, but I have actually done those parks at Christmas so I know what to expect, I just can't seem to fathom how large the crowds will be and with a 3 year old I don't want everybody to have melt downs. But we may still go to WDW instead just because I am excited to see my new "home" :)
Thanks again.

At the moment, you can indeed use your points to secure reservations for GCR's suites. However, this seems to change from year to year -- the reason I believe the DVC salesperson said you can't. The points for suites are not published -- you need to call Member Services to get current points pricing. Hope this helps!

My family has ressies for a one-week stay there for this July in concierge, park view. We've never been there but looking forward to it!

Well as soon as I can get in touch with my guide to get my member number I will call MS. You will love the GC it is one of the most beautiful hotels I have seen in recent years. It is also so wonderful that you have your own park entrance to California Adventure. Have a great time!!!
