***1st Week of December Thread ADR Plans, Park Hours, and dealing with Pop Warner***

Speaking of Ohana, for those of you who have been there, what do you all think about it? For some reason (please don't shoot me), the pictures I see remind me of regular Asian food, not really special except for the bread pudding :confused3 whenever I read reviews, I think it sounds great, but when I see pictures, I'm just not so excited as I once was?!
I would not say it is asian food. it is more brazilian BBQ with an asian flair, or highly americanized asian-ish food. I think people just like it because it is really tasty, not because it is super exotic. Everything is just really well done from the salad to the wings to the potstickers to the noodles, veggies and then the meats. Bread pudding is hardly anything new or interesting either, just really well done there and super delicious. Plus the atmosphere of the poly and the open fire pits and the festivities.

honestly if you want something similar you could probably do fine at kona and ordering the wings and one of the noodle bowls or something. but it's a totally different experience. also the wings at kona came to me pink inside last time I was there. :crazy2:

I can see how it would look like that. I will say the food tastes phenomenal, but that's hard to capture in a picture. The flavors are just so good, even the chicken, which of the three meats, I thought that would be my least favorite just because it's chicken and there's only so much you can do with it, but it was delicious. Also the sauce accompaniments are really good too. The pork dumplings were great on their own, but with that weird peanut sauce, oh my gosh SO GOOD. The only thing I was really disappointed with from my already very high expectations was the vegetables. Ours were still a little crunchy in places, as if they hadn't left them in the pan long enough before shooting them out.
I like crunchy veggies and I think stir fried veggies are usually supposed to be kind of crunchy. I find them overcooked if they are mushy. it's a fine line ;)

You may be totally right. I'm not gonna lie, stir fry veggies are not in my regular rotation of food choices! Haha! We're more steamed veggie people, and they are most definitely mushy! :rotfl:

maybe next time you can ask for really well done veggies, lol. I'm not sure if they would accommodate though, I picture HUGE tables with preplated food with waitstaff grabbing it off of there.

though beware, at breakfast a weeks ago I asked for my home fries to be "very well done" and they gave me a plate of charcoal briquettes... no joke. the waitress sat it down and was like "um, I am not going to serve that to you!". she took them off and replaced them but I still had charcoal dust on my omelette. it was crazy. I am now more cautious about "very well done"!

Lol, yeah , stir fry veggies are definitely supposed to have a bit of a crunch to them. I much prefer it to mushy steamed stuff! Haha

Currently available for a party of 2 at Ohana:

Ohhh! I'm looking for one week later!
And in response to your question @Candycane83 , I have had the hardest time finding a 5pm Ohana dinner! I've come across many other hard to find dinners thought the past few months, but this one is evading me :) it must be really yummy!

do not like mushy veggies. also do not like them steamed. I like them roasted, stir fried, raw, but not steamed lol. my favorite are pan roasted brussels sprouts, they are roasty toasty on the outside and creamy on the inside. now I want some. I hate when I go to a restaurant and they are still crunchy :crazy2: I always get disappointed when they have them on the menu because the BF makes them SO amazing!

it is really yummy but it is also overhyped a bit. I mean yes it is yummy but I'm not sure why it is one of THE hardest ADRs to get! I have one and am glad I do and am looking forward to it because it is all really tasty and a fun experience but it is not head and shoulders above many other disney restaurants is what I mean. I hope you get one!

Yummy is subjective. It's okay. It is very popular though, which is why the ADR scene for it is elusive. Keep on searching! :)

On 11/30 -- we have a 12:10 ADR for Mama Melrose's F! Lunch Package. With the addition of JBJB, our interest has turned to that. Should we hang on to this ADR?

I know if by chance we want to FP F!, it's easy to do. Would a QS lunch be best?

This would be a new restaurant for all of us, and the steak with mac and cheese looks divine!

Is there another day or evening that you'll be at HS? I've read that the F! pass is actually good for 5 days I think? So you could see F! on another night.

I have no recommendation on Mama Melrose as I've never eaten there before, sorry!

The girls will be in HS again on 12/5.

I love F!, and its one of my favorite evening shows. It's probably a bit much to do both that night.

It looks like JBJB starts at 6:45, and F! starts at 7. Is JBJB only 15 minutes?

I'm going to be honest, I've been twice and don't get the love. I had my lapu lapu accidentally poured on me (he felt kinda bad, but didn't really do anything other than give me a few napkins). My mom, niece and I like our meat on the rare side and when we asked for that, we waited and waited and then finally were given about 3 tiny pieces. The food is ok to me, but the dessert is delish! There are so many other choices, so I don't see this hitting the rotation.

@Talby You have been missed--glad to see you back!

Yeah, with JBJB starting at 6:45 and F! at 7 I don't see any way of getting to F! on time. You might be able to stand in the back and just watch part of it, but you'd really be booking it over there.

Thanks for your honest review! I think we'll try it out and see how it goes this trip. :) It may or may not make it the next time but at least we would have tried it. :)

That steak is often talked about on these boards as one of the best and M thought it was really good. It's not easy to find decent QS in DHS, so I would keep it.

I have never been... But it looks like a meat lovers paradise to me... Def NOT the place for myself and DD, but might take DH next time I drag him to Disney. If I ever get back with my adult son, he would love it!

I haven't been there bur I feel the same. Meh. We are eating at kona and I'm requesting the bread pudding for dessert (I hear they will do that for you). I think ohana is good for dinner if you love meat
