Hello,
We are going to WDW the 1st week in April and I have to tell you that I am very nervous about it! Dont get me wrong very excited as well, just not sure what to expect from our kids. I will be going with my mother, DD 8, DD 6 and DS 2.5.
DS has some serious sensory issues as well as a g-tube placed for feedings. I am so hoping that he will be OK with the whole expierence, I want this to be a pleasurable one for all the kids.
We are planning 2 days, one at MK and one at AK. Then a day to play at Typhoon Lagoon.

I am worried that it will be a zoo there and DS will freak out and then I will have to leave with him :(, I want to evjoy this trip as well!

It is a long way to Florida from Michigan!

Hi

I've been to Disney 4 times in the last 2.5 years. Both my girls have been when they were 4 and 1 and then up from there. We are also going to be there the week that you are.

The key to doing Disney when you have some special considerations is to take it easy. Don't rush!!!

AK is probably IMHO the park with the least indoor buildings. If it is hot -then this park should be done in the a.m. -

My oldest daughter age 6.5 has her favourites 1) MK, 2) Epcot :scratchin, 3) MGM, 4) AK.

My now almost 3 year old loves it all!

We'll be going with the grandparents this trip - Grandmom is 84 and in a wheelchair - first time at Disney - this too will be a slower paced trip for us - so relax, get excited and take one day at a time.

Have a wonderful trip!

Going the 1st of April too w/ my DW, DM, DD2 and DS1 on our first trip to WDW. What I have been reading here and in books is to plan and to take it easy. Don't try to get everything done or be too time with the schedule. Schedule to return to your hotel/resort mid-day to take a nice break, lunch, visit the pool, whatever, but to give everyone a chance o relax and/or take a nap. Then go back to the park in the evening for dinner, fireworks, parades, whatever. Makes sense, but it seems counter-intuitive to most, given they are spending $50+/day on one ticket.

Good luck and let's hope for good weather. What the last replier said about Animal Kingdom seems right on track. Books say there are fewer AC buildings, so being there mid-day may be very tiring.

I know you will have a great time. I recently read a post that a parent would put ear plugs in for her child since he also had sensory issues. Of course, you know your child better than I, but I don't know if this option would help at all. Just a thought! :)

Have your son listen to the music and watch the promotional video before going. Read some of the Disney books together. Make a story book yourself of pictures and explanations (picture of loud drum at parade: Boom-boom,boom. Fireworks in sky: wheeeee*Bang! etc.". At least that will give him some idea before hand. When reading the book, talk about how you all can react to the loud noises and/or commotion. We can cover our ears, we can look away, etc. Also, take frequent quiet breaks.

Good luck. I hope you have a great vacation.

As other posters have said, take it easy and go by your kids' signals of what is too much.

You should probably visit the disabilities board, I'm sure there are several posts about sensory issues. You may come across issues in posts you may not have thought would bother him and be prepared.

Enjoy your trip!

Nancy
