I need recommendations for WOC based on our specific situation.
We have done dessert parties, dining packages and special tours at WDW but this is our first trip to DLR.
We want to have a great viewing of WOC, but, it is just me and kids so getting a fp and having one person hold spots while the other gets food is not an option.
Dining package cons:
My DS will have just turned 10 and the set menus look more geared to adults. It is also painful to pay adults prices if they let him order the kid’s meal.
I also read that dining packages don’t guarantee great viewing if you get stuck behind tall people.
Dessert party con:
price
I will pay it if sitting at tables will make it so much better but I feel we get better value out of a meal package.

I can't speak to the dessert party, but in terms of FPs or the dining packages, the only way to get a "great view" is to be willing to commit a fair amount of time to ensure that you get a rail spot so that no one is in front of you. There are great viewing spots within all of the viewing areas (dining and FP), but you need to get there early to get one. The general advice is to try and get there at least 90 minutes ahead of time for the FP areas. The dining package areas don't open that early (I think it's either 30 or 45 minutes before show time), but that doesn't mean guests do not start lining up before then. If you wait until the area opens, there will be a goodly number of guests ahead of you to check in, so I would plan to be there before the area opens and hope to be on the first guests in.

It looks like the dessert party may be my best bet. We had a great time at the happily ever after party at WDW last summer so all is not lost.

With a group of three for the WOC dessert party, you still need to get there early. If I were you I would do 60 minutes early to be sure.

Be advised that the free viewing you need to be there 90 minutes early for e good view. If you are trying to save time, your $240 will save you 30 minutes. Is that what you want?

I am doing the dessert party in June not to save time but to save wear and tear on legs and to get a seat for my DW55 who has some health issues and standing in one spot is not good for her. Also we will have DGD3. So I am splurging because of my situation.

For you, you could easily just show up 90 minutes early with a free yellow FP and have (IMO) a better view. My DW55 prefers the view from the dessert party area. I prefer it closer in the yellow section FWIW.

I am also concerned about taking my kids to DLR without my DH (who has to work) If the kids are tired out from a full day, being Able to sit at the tables may be the only way to make it through. I can’t give both boys piggyback rides back to BWPPI!

We took my boys at ages 7 and 4 and did the dessert party. We are on the east coast so we have done the Disney World parties and stuff. The world
Of color dessert party was the best experience ever and worth every penny, despite my 4 year old sleeping through the entire thing. We are going again this June for a few days before a work conference for my hubby. We will do the dessert party again and the boys are 9 and 6. So excited for it.

I have done the dessert party twice and did not show up early either time. There was people already lined up ahead of us when we showed up at the time suggested on the reservation but we got a great table both times. There really isn’t a bad spot in the whole party.
It is expensive but I would not see WOC any other way. WE ate a late lunch and then had the cheese, bread and fruits as “dinner”. The desserts were excellent and we got to go boxes to take what we did not finish.
We also did the dining WOC package and it was awful. We could not see anything, we had to line up super early and it was jam packed. Not worth the money at all, in my opinion.
Go for the dessert party!
