We just returned last night from our first trip ever using our points, and our first trip to our home (OKW). I drove over with the kids while DH met us that night. Got a nice Welcome Home from the guard and several CM's at check-in (we were the only ones checking in at 3:00 PM). We tried to get out of the house earlier but couldn't do it. We had a nice gift waiting for us (thanks to a lovely CM from Philly). The kids are so exciting about pin trading now - a big thanks to Gail (I'll send you a separate email)!
We had room 4225 right next to the Turtle Pond pool. It was a great one bedroom. We had a nice water view with a family of ducks (babies included) and several bunnies munching by the golf course. The course view was slightly obstructed by a huge palm tree, but we loved it. We will ask for building 42 or 43 for our Sept trip (if we don't have to cancel). The walk to the bus stop was a short one. We swam at the Turtle Pond pool Tuesday night. It was not crowded at all.
We had intended to do basic R&R since our son was recovering from surgery, however, we got into the Disney spirit and didn't get to bed before midnight any night. Our son handled everything just fine. I think the Disney magic did him good, too.
Did Animal Kingdom on Wednesday. Crowds were big, but manageable. We still don't understand why people don't use fastpass. We literally walked onto the Kali River Rapids at noon and bypassed hundreds of people standing in the 50 minute wait line.
Went back to the main pool and swam before heading to the Contemporary for dinner at the Concourse Steakhouse. It was very good. The kids loved watching the monorail go by and we loved our steaks. Of course, they saw Chef Mickeys in the background so that will be a stop on our next trip.
We spent Thursday at Storm Along Bay. What a pool. I think if we have the money, my DH could easily be talked into an add-on at the Beach Club when they are finished. My DD (7) must have done the Pirate Slide 50 times. I couldn't keep my DD (4) out of the whirlpool thingamajig. And our DS (5) was quite content in the shallow area since his energy isn't up to par yet. We had lunch at Hurricane Hanna's and it was very good.
We went back to OKW and the kids napped around 4:30. DH and I sat on the balcony and watched a tornado try to form. This was very scarry and interesting at the same time. We could see the swirl of the clouds and the tail trying to come down. Thankfully, it never got going.
Had dinner at Fulton's that night. Good, but we thought we probably won't go back. They brought the kids drinks in tall glasses with no lids. I'll let you guess how long it took for one to spill. For the price, we like other restaraunts better.
Friday we slept in later and didn't get out of the room until around 11:15. Went to the Contemp and swam some more, shopped and then headed over to the Poly for a late lunch at the Kona Cafe. I had an awesome salad and my husband had the Asian Noodle Bowl (soup). It was really awesome.
We hated to come home. Our son will start his radiation treatments this week so this was a really good, spur-of-the-moment getaway for us. It truly was a special trip. One we'll never forget.
Thanks to all who responded to my previous post, too. We're so thankful for all your prayers.
Have a Disney Day!!!!!
