1st trip to DL, 1st Anniversary, 1st time on the coast...COMPLETED!!

I love how the HM looks at DL! We didn't make it to HM at MK last time we were there, but will definitely in December. DH hasn't been on it since he was really little and it terrified him. He is now determined to conquer it! :)

I have never had a Dole Whip! I will have to add it to my list of things to do. I'm just a chocoholic. So when I am faced with chocolate ice cream or a Dole Whip, the chocolate always wins! I guess I can always do both, though! :thumbsup2

The Dole Whips are big and plenty to share with some else in your party that gets a Mickey Head choc. covered Ice cream bar....lol

KimabOO , what kind of camera are you using for these great pics?

Great update! I can't believe how much you've gotten done in one day - and it's not even over yet! We'll definately have to take advantage of MM when we go, I'm getting soooooo excited - just a little over 2 months :yay:

Ive heard those same things abot POTC and size differance of the 2 castles...I cant wait till Oct. and find out all about it.

When you finally get to WDW go to the MK EMH for Wishes fireworks and find a spot a ways back and directly in front of the castle and camp out till the show...at some point of the show a live person tinkerbell shoots down a zip line with sparklers atached she is aproz 100 ft up in the air ...its toatally awesome.... but you need to be in that location to see tinkerbell up close and personal

ya, at Disneyland there's a Tinkerbell that climbs up the Matterhorn mountain and swings down.

and about the size difference between the castle: I've heard before that Walt, when constructing Disneyland, wanted all the "lands" to feel seperate from eachother. In other words, when you're in Adventure Land you can't see or hear anothing from Fantasyland, or any of the other lands. Of course, this is before they made New Orleans Square at Disneyland, because today I think you can clearly see Frontier land From New Orleans Square. But he might have made the castle not so tall so that you can't see it from every point in the park. He wanted the guests to be completely immersed into the "land". just a thought.

The reason for the castle being the size that it is also has to do with proportion and the overall surrounding of the area. Disneyland was build on a small piece of land than the Magic Kingdom. To put a structure the size of Cinderella’s Castle would totally overwhelm the area.

The imagineers knew exactly what they were doing when they built it and they were not gonna make it big for the sake of making it big. It’s all about complementing the surrounding environment.

Aesthetically, it would also look awkward for a castle to be taller than the Matterhorn, which to some is DL’s true icon. I think the current size of the castle and Matterhorn looming majestically in the background is truly magical.

Sounds awesome...I cant waittill the first time I see it in Oct 2008

Great update so far!! Got to love those Dole Whips!!! So nice and refreshing when your in the mood for something cold and sweet!! Can't wait to hear more!!

that's a good point. when I was little I always thought of the Matterhorn as the DL icon, because it was always the first thing I saw as we were driving to DL. but the Matterhorn can't be why Walt decided to build the castle as small as it is. after all, when Disneyland first opened, there was no Matterhorn. I once read somewhere that he didn't want to make it too big because he didn't want to make it look intimidating. I don't know if that's true, but I read that somewhere. As for me, I think it was a number of reasons. I stick by to what I said earlier about Walt not wanting people to see or hear anything from what "land" they're in (he's said that before), so he probably wouldn't have wanted people to see the castle from other areas of the park. Another reason could also be the size of the park, though he could probably have made more room if he really wanted the castle to be bigger. I guess we'll have nothing but theories though. Or maybe he never meant for it to be small. It just looks small because of what people have seen at WDW. who knows....

......Or maybe he never meant for it to be small. It just looks small because of what people have seen at WDW. who knows....

I think this is absolutely correct. Because when I went to DLR in 2006, I actually was in awe about it. I just loved it and thought it was amazing and perfect. But I also have never seen Cinderella's castle in person, so I have nothing to compare it to.

My own theory is that there just wasnt time and money for Walt to build a big fairy-tale castle, PLUS, Disneyland was built in 365 days exactly, which, when you think about it, is so amazing for 1955. No one ever, anywhere had undertaken such a fanciful job before. My bet is that Cinderella's castle was a result of learning what could be done, having more money, and listening to the masses about what they wanted in a castle, once they had a castle to compare it to. For ex. rooms, stores, a restauraunt..... people wanted to go IN that baby!

But I will always love Sleeping Beauty's first castle. She's beautiful. Did you know the gold spears are actually gold? Real gold leaf....

Boy, this thread is hyjacked! I think we all need an update!! :rolleyes1

I have to say, after all the problems you had with your contacts, you look really good in your glasses :goodvibes I know they were probably annoying to wear, but you were stylin!:thumbsup2

I just love your trip reports, it really makes me feel like I'm there. I don't think we will be going to DL anytime in the near or not so near future, so this report in great for me.

So I have a little story about Club 33, not that exciting but I'll bore you anyway! Backstory first, my dad is a hairdresser and I won't let anyone touch my hair besides him, which means that my hair gets pretty bad since I only get to see my dad approx twice a year;) :rotfl: anyhoo, one of his coworkers who is amazing moved to a city about an hour and half away from where I live, so I got him to do my hair before we went to WDW in December - end of backstory. While talking about our trip, he just casually says oh yeah, I went to Disney and ate at that number club place. <- my face!! So I respond with you ate at club 33!!!! He was like yeah ever so casually!! I couldn't believe it you can't be casual about that. I managed to grill him good for details!!;)

Okay so I love the buildings for Haunted Mansion and It's a Small World, so sorry IASW was being refurbished, but like you said, now there can be a next time! I'm so jealous you saw the original Tiki Room, I wish they would turn the WDW one back to the original.

Did you like Pinocchio's Village Haus, its a must do every trip for DH and I, we get the same sandwich and sit in our same spot, it's one of my favorite traditions, we've done it every trip:lovestruc

Can't wait for more. :yay:

I love me some POTC but the one in Dl def is the better one!!!! Great update!

I agree!! Much better!! I loved it! I think we rode it a total of three times! lol!! Thanks for following along!!

I sure hope so! Our CA trip last summer was one of our favorite trips that we've taken! :goodvibes I don't have anything planned for DL yet, but it's constantly on my mind. I'd definitely like to head back sooner, than later. :rolleyes1

Yes your TR was amazing!! I think that was the first DL trip report I read...I even made Jason read it with me!

This makes me want to go to Disneyland soooo bad. You make it sound awesome! great update, can't wait for more!

Aww thanks!! And thanks for reading along! :goodvibes

they do, at least I'm pretty sure they do. I know that they do have the women auction though.

YES! They say, "We want the red head"....:rotfl2:

I've been to Disneyland countless times, but reading your TR I realize how much I haven't done. I live only 30 minutes away, yet I've never gotten there when the park first opens. We always say that one day we'll make it there first thing when it opens. We never do. We take too long to get ready. Most days (when we had annual passes) we'd get there between 12 and 3 p.m. I've also never had a Dole whip thing that you had, but it looks delicious, and I've never eaten at the restaraunt at the PotC ride (because it is so expensive). I've always wanted to eat there though. Never stayed at a hotel either, but I don't know what the point would be since we're within driving distance of the parks. so I'll probably never stay at the hotels unless I move out of southern california. And, I'm sad to say, I've never watched the full show of Fantasmic. While people were usually watching parades, fireworks, or fantasmic, we usually took advantage of shorter lines. As locals we're always thinking "there's always next time". If I have ever watched Fantasmic it was when I was very young. One day though, I will go right when it opens.... as soon as I can afford more annual passes again.

and, by the way, what is the "golden spike"? I should know this stuff, but... I did see on a show on T.V. about a window on main street that always has a light shining through it. It was Walt's apartment in the park, and it's now lit all the time in his memory. The next time I went I noticed it. I love that about Disneyland: the history and park rumors.

The Golden Spike....(From the "List of DL Secrets")
-Also, when you are entering Fantasyland from the Main Street hub, and you pass under the castle, look down to find a gold stake in the ground that was driven into the ground by Walt Disney himself! This was to signify the exact center of the park!

Thanks for following along!! :thumbsup2

Awesome pictures...what kind of camera do you use? POTC and HM are two of my faorites also...last Sept we went to HM the day it reopened in Sept at WDW. does the POTC at DL have the "WE WANT THE REDHEAD"lady at the auction? lol

I have a NIkon D40x and I LOVE it!! It takes amazing pictures! Especially on the Auto function....:rotfl2: Cause that's all I know how to use at the moment!! :rotfl2: YES the have the part of "We Want The Redhead!" It's so funny!!!!

Great update! :thumbsup2

I LOVE dole whip floats......after seeing your pics, I'm craving one right now! :lmao:

I can't believe how much you got done before lunchtime! Wow! It seems that Magic Mornings are the ONLY way to go! :goodvibes

You hit two of my favorite rides during the morning........Pirates and the HM. The DL versions are so good, too! :yay:

As always, fabulous pictures and I'm looking forward to more! :)

LOL I know those Dole Whips are GREAT!!! I agree with that...MAgic Mornings are a great thing to take advantage of! Otherwise, you'd wait in line for like an hour per ride and hardly get anything done! Yes the DL versions of HM and Pirates are GREAT!!!!

What a great morning. Magic Mornings are so worth it at Disneyland. To bad you didn't find my favorite CS The Hungry Bear at lunch time!

I agree!!! Awww we never did get to eat at the Hungry Bear!! Once again...maybe NEXT TIME!!! :rotfl2: (Who knows when that will be!!)

Yum I want a Dole Whip Float now. I really like Tarzan's Tree House.

Tarzan's Tree House was fun! I enjoyed it too!

Did you get to see Julie Andrews? I know she was at DL that day, I was so bummed because I missed seeing her by ONE day.    Loving the TR btw.

I didn't know she was there that day!!!!!!!! AWW MAN! I missed it!!! I love Julie, too! How sad!

Another great update! I cannot wait to have a dole whip float in 2.5 weeks at WDW. Did you ever try the "tiggertail"? That is on my list in Sept at DL. :) Keep the updates coming!!!

I never could find the Tigger Tail! I looked all over for it, too! Oh well!!

What a great update!! You made me tired just reading along! :lmao: Loved the idea of adding the Tarzan theme. Dole Whip Float...:woohoo:  :woohoo: That's my favorite!

LOL!! Dole Whips are fantastic!! Thanks for following along!!

That Dole whip float looks delicious!! The view from the treehouse looks amazing. But, I have to say I think I like the WDW one better. I'm a big SFR fan.

It IS delicious! I love them!! That's going to be a "tradition" from now on!! Each trip, I get a Dole Whip!!! :rotfl2: I agree with that too...I think I like SFR treehouse better...but then again, it's the original version!! Thanks for following along!!

OK I gotta go to work! I'll finish this up when I get home!! :)

She was there signing her new book. I saw pics I think she was by the caroseul(sp?) Bummer you missed her.

Karen I totally feel you on the friendliness(sp?) of the people at Disneyland I totally noticed the difference in just one day at Disneyland compared to WDW, it made me kind of sad and not want to go back to Disneyland. Your dinner at Napa Rose looked yummy. I think I like the Disneyland fireworks better than *gasp* Wishes(and DH and I got engaged during Wishes) I just absolutely LOVE Julie Andrews.

NO Way. Isolated case. Tons of friendly people at DL, and I am one of them. In fact, always embarrasing my husband when I see families or couples taking pictures of each other and I go up and offer to take their picture with all of them in it. Always asking other people to take our picture as a family too, and always have friendly volunteers. I have been to both WDW and DL and find plenty of magical moments at both.

Ive heard those same things abot POTC and size differance of the 2 castles...I cant wait till Oct. and find out all about it.

Tinkerbell is definitely worth seeing!! As much as I LOVE wishes at the Magic Kingdom, I think that REmember: Dreams Come True fireworks are my ABSOLUTE favorite !! TInkerbell is really really cool ... she not only flies down from the castle (as in MK), but she zips back and forth across the castle .... it's AWESOME!!!!!!

Hi, come visit my Dis meet link for another Dole Wip...sign in post a howdy doo..lol ......Plus as a bonus Ive been compiling lots of reasearch from here on the dis about flights, hotels rental cars, food, local tranits...etc. etc. Ive done alot of leg work that may be very beneficail...when it comes time for that DL trip and the real Dole Whip...lol

I'm going to have to go check that out! Thanks for the link!! :thumbsup2

The Dole Whips are big and plenty to share with some else in your party that gets a Mickey Head choc. covered Ice cream bar....lol

KimabOO , what kind of camera are you using for these great pics?

Hehe....I agree!! Jason and I shared that one and we were both full!!! Thank you very much...I'm glad you are enjoying the pictures! I use a Nikon D40X! I LOVE it! Great camera! :goodvibes

Great update! I can't believe how much you've gotten done in one day - and it's not even over yet! We'll definately have to take advantage of MM when we go, I'm getting soooooo excited - just a little over 2 months :yay:

I KNOW that's what I was thinking, too! I had to stop and ask Jason what time it was, then we counted (I think) 12 attractions by like 10 a.m.!!! Good stuff!!! DEFINITELY do magic mornings....it's GREAT!!!!

ya, at Disneyland there's a Tinkerbell that climbs up the Matterhorn mountain and swings down.

Sorry...I wasn't trying to make it into a debate about the castle sizes! I was just comparing the two parks. I loved Sleeping Beauty's castle AND I love Cinderella's castle...both are totally different but each have their own charm! It doesn't matter if Sleeping Beauty's castle towers in the sky or not, it's still very very pretty!! That's a good thought, though and very smart of Walt......keeping each land within itself! Makes it seem more "realistic"! :thumbsup2

Ok sorry again....like I said, I wasn't trying to make this into a debate about the castle!! I LOVE Disneyland's castle! It's very charming and incredibly intricate!! Thanks for reading! :thumbsup2

Sounds awesome...I cant waittill the first time I see it in Oct 2008

You're going to love it!! THanks for following along! :goodvibes

thanks .. Im just hopeing they have the redhead girl in particular....everytime our group rides the POTC at WDW .... as we are going under the bridge ...we yell out " WE WANT THE REDHEAD" 2 or 3 times ...it really cracks up the whole boatload of people...lol

:rotfl2: That's so funny!!!! You're in luck cause they definitely have it in Disneyland!!

lol. I've never been to WDW. never been to florida. I've been other places on the east coast, like New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, D.C., that area. But I've never been anywhere in the south. I'll make my way the WDW someday thought. From what I hear from other people is that they like PotC at DL better, but I have see that for myself. Plus the WDW castle, or maybe I should say château, looks huge compare to the DL castle from what I've seen in pictures, and the DL castle just got a makeover over the 50th anniversery. sorry, I'm rambling again, so I'll stop here.

You're not rambling...it's fine! :) My favorite part of visiting the two parks was seeing just how different they are! Even though there are a ton of similarites, they seriously seem like two totally different "worlds" if you know what I mean! I don't know if it's because I'm just "new" to Disneyland, but honestly, I think I liked it a little better!! :) Thanks for following along!!!

Loved the update! Going to Disneyland has been on our list of stuff to do before we have kids and I think we are in good shape since we still aren't going to be married for about 60 days. :rotfl2: I'm just worried about the flight...I start to go a little stir crazy on the flight to orlando...I can't imagine flying all the way to cali. We'll see what happens. That dole whip looks AMAZING! I've never tried one, but I think I need to now. Aren't you quite the influence? Making us want dole whips and to go to disneyland. :thumbsup2 :goodvibes Can't wait for more.

Haha...yes good shape!!!! The flight wasn't too bad. We watched a movie and we got to eat so time went by pretty fast! OMG You NEED to get a Dole Whip or a Dole Whip Float...they are both really good! Only difference is they add pinapple juice to the Dole Whip Float. Hehe....at least it's a good influence!! :)

Great update Karen! Your trip report is making me want to go to DL more and more each time I read it!

I have a few questions for you about your December trip. I'll PM you later!

How's the spec house coming?

Have a great day!

Michele

Aww thanks! Definitely PM me!! Any questions...I'm here to help!!!! Spec house is coming along GREAT! They put in the ceiling fans and lighting and are now working on the cabinets! Thanks for asking!! You have a great day, too!! :goodvibes

Awesome TR as usual girl! :thumbsup2

But, I'd like to chime in here too and say that I hope they NEVER, EVER change SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON'S TREEHOUSE in Florida. It's nice to have some of the classics always represented!!

I don't think I like the way they've added in the characters/animals from the Tarzan movie into the treehouse. Don't fix what's not broken! :goodvibes

Thank you so much!! I agree....my first time in the SFR treehouse was December and I LOVED it!!!! I'm glad that it's still the original. What was neat to me is seeing the "originals" at Disney World (although there aren't many left) and then getting to see the "originals" at Disneyland!! It was great!!!!

LOVE the update Karen!!
I can't wait to hunt down all the secrets like the golden spike! :)

Thank you so much!! Oh yes the secrets were fun to find!! Made for a more exciting trip! :) THanks for following along!! :goodvibes

:thumbsup2

I agree...I love it, too!! I think they should decorate the HM at Disney World at Christmas time the way that they do DL HM at Christmas!! I would love to see that!!! Oooh you and me both, girl...I LOVE me some chocolate!! :rotfl2: Maybe too much!!! You COULD always do both! One afternoon, have a dole whip and the next afternoon, have your chocolate ice cream! :rotfl2:

Great update Karen!!!:goodvibes It was so worth waiting for!!:thumbsup2 So glad you are back, and so sorry to hear about the job thing, thank God you still have a job.
Tarzan's treehouse looks awesome, we saw it in March when we were there but my friend I was with had just had a heartattack and couldn't climb it, but we are hoping to do it in Dec. But the scenes up there are just too cute, can't wait to see it.
Your Dole Whip Float looks amazing, that is going on my list of things to have, I had one in WDW but I think I need to try one in DL. :goodvibes
Looking forward to reading and seeing more, you are doing such a great job and I hope that things settle down for you now. :goodvibes

Thank you so much! Yes thank GOD that I still have a job!!!! Awww...sorry you didn't get to do the treehouse last time! I agree...the scenes were very cute!! Heheh....I guess everyone is going to try a Dole Whip now!! :rotfl2: That's good though....because they are AWESOME!!!! Thank you so much again!! :goodvibes

She was there signing her new book. I saw pics I think she was by the caroseul(sp?) Bummer you missed her.

AWWW DARN I missed her!!! I didn't even see any signs or read about it online!! :( Sad times...

NO Way. Isolated case. Tons of friendly people at DL, and I am one of them. Hmmm...I really wish that I would have run into you, then!! That's a very nice thing of you to do for other people! We just didn't run into very many of them....and the ones we did ask to take our pictures were like, "Oooookkkk?" with a hesitance in their tone!

Great update so far!! Got to love those Dole Whips!!! So nice and refreshing when your in the mood for something cold and sweet!! Can't wait to hear more!!

Thank you so much!! I agree...very nice and refreshing!! :goodvibes

I agree....sounds like a good logic to me! I heard that Space Mountain is sunk down into the ground so it doesn't tower over Sleeping Beauty's castle. Who knows is right! Good theory, though! :goodvibes

Aww thanks!!! My glasses are "Coach" (my insurance paid for them)! :rotfl2: I felt important when I got them!! :rotfl2: I'm glad you enjoy the reports! They take so much time to write so it's nice to know that people appreciate them!! Number Club or something...:rotfl2: That's HILARIOUS!! I would have been like, "WHAT?!" too!! I LOVED the original Tiki Room!! I thought it was great!!! I hope they don't touch that one at all! Pinocchio's Village Haus was great! Although there was no "overlook" into Small World! :rotfl2: It was very cute and charming!! I haven't eaten there at DW before but I always look up when I'm riding SM and see people in the window above the ride!!

I was going to try to update today, but my dad's on his way over to pick me up! We are going to an Astros game today and I got CLUB SEATS!!! I'm so excited about it!!! :dance3:

I'll post another update tomorrow when I get back!! :cheer2:
