This will be my 1st DVC vacation and my 1st time at HH. Last year I honeymooned at Port Orleans Riverside. Does anyone know if Tide Me Over at HH is similiar to the "food court" at POR? Do they have the refillable soda mugs at HH? How difficult is it to use a grill at dinner time? There are 8 of us going and we have a 2 bdrm. and a studio and we are trying to figure out meal plans. Any info would be great. Thanks!!:D

Tide Me Over has typical food court food. Hamburgers, hot dogs, turkey wraps, chicken fingers and salads. Typical kids' meals as well. Even have breakfast sandwiches. They do have refillable mugs. You can refill there and at Signals at the Beach House or at the poolside bar at the Beach House. Best to refill at the bar instead of at Signals. Did not eat at Tide Me Over, but did eat at Signals and service is very slow. As far as the grills, I did see numerous throughout, but we did not use them. One of the very best things about HH is all the fabulous restaurants on the island so we always eat dinner out. Even if there is a long wait (you can make reservations at some), many have live entertainment to enjoy. You will love the resort. Many activities to do. Lots for the kids if any are coming. Shark fishing was a blast and the dolphins came right up beside the boat and "played" for about 15 minutes.
Enjoy your stay. We rented for this stay and my husband said it's time to look for a resale. Yaaaay!!

Tide Me Over and Signals are not really food courts -- they're more like a snack bar with a single window and limited menu. I'm not sure what the hours are right now, but usually Tide Me Over opens at 8 or 9 a.m. and closes around 4 p.m. It's more for breakfast (GREAT breakfast sandwiches), lunch, and poolside snacks. Unless things have changed, Signals (and the Sand Bar) at the beach house also close at 4 p.m. -- they're for lunch and poolside snacks also.

We have never had to wait to use a grill at HH. The "worst" we've had to do is move to a grill a little further away from our villa. ;)

I agree with the previous poster -- there are LOTS of restaurants on HH that you will want to try. Some are within walking distance (at Shelter Cove); others are a short drive away. Many also give a DVC discount.

We also tend to cook in more at Hilton Head than we do at WDW.

You might also want to consider booking a Private Affair with Chef Gordon through the resort. He will cook a dinner just for your party at the beach house and it's heavenly! As much as we enjoy many of the restaurants at HH, we have had our best meals cooked by Gordon!!

Enjoy.

Hi,

Thanks for the post it will be my 1st time @ HH in October as well. Thanks for the info. Have fun!

If you choose to book A Private Affair with Chef Gordon, you may not want to wait until you get to the resort. We tried to book on our arrival day and he was not available until late the following week. :( We had heard great things about the meal. Oh well, maybe next year. Call the resort directly if interested in booking.

Signals was only open from 11 AM till 4 PM. Tide Me Over was open from 8 AM till 4 PM.

Also, if you are traveling with children and want places they will enjoy, there is a Fuddruckers (giant hamburgers and an arcade room) and a Cracker Barrel (complet with storefull of junk) just a minute or so down the road. I had the pleasure of eating at BOTH. Wait til my kids go to college... nice meals, here I come! Also very close is a Piggly Wiggly store, with regular prices and all the groceries you'll need.

How do you know if they give a DVC discount? Did you just ask? Any really good (but not really expensive) restaurants that you suggest? We don't have any kids in our group, only the young at heart!

Thanks for your help everyone.

You will get a list of all the DVC discounts at check in. There are also some that will give the 10% discount if you ask.

We enjoy Scott's Fishmarket, the Kingfisher and the deli right at Shelter Cove (about 400 yards from the resort). Giuseppi's is a favorite for pizza (and other Italian menu items). Also nice is Hudson's, Alexanders, the Hilton Head Diner and many others- all a short drive from the resort.

All grills at the resort use charcoal- so be prepared for that need.

Enjoy!

You will receive a list of restaurants that will give you a 10% discount from the front desk when you check in. I think 1 or 2 of the casual restaurants gave 15% when we were there last week. Scott's Fish Market in Shelter Cove had great seafood. Specials the night we went were $18- $22 plus a 10% discount. Old Oyster Factory is a very popular restaurant that runs about that as well. They offer the discount also. You will have to wait here unless you arrive soon after opening (5 PM), but they have a pretty good guitar player on the back deck with a bar. A lot of the restaurants offer Early Bird Specials if you don't mind arriving before 6 PM. ( A little too early for us).
Our favorite was Alexander's in Palmetto Dunes. A few dollars more, but VERY good. Of course my husband and I went there while the kids were at Kids Night Out. Maybe that is why we enjoyed it so much. When you arrive on the island you will find restaurant and event guides everywhere you turn. Pick one up and read it poolside.
Enjoy!!
