Hello all! My husband and I will be visiting DLR for the first time Nov. 21-24/2014. I tried renting points to stay at VGC, but no availability. Husband has a bad foot that makes lots of walking on concrete painful, so am trying to find a nice hotel that is close to parks, to minimize walking. Any advice would be so greatly appreciated!

If you want a true "hotel", then there aren't going to be too many options within walking distance of DLR. Most of the hotels are closer to the convention center (south of DCA). Along Harbor, you'll find a number of motels, some of which are not that bad. You might look into those (e.g., the Ramada, Fairfield, BWPPI, Park Vue, etc.) and see if any would work for your family.

Thank you for the reply. I have reserved a suite at BWPPI - hoping that is the right choice. Really want to stay on site, but cannot justify the price ( if they released discounts, I will reconsider, so my fingers are crossed :)

I've stayed at the BWPPI, Fairfield, Ramada Main Gate, and Anahiem Hilton. By far, the Hilton was the nicest, but that's to be expected because it was a convention center hotel. Of the three motels on Harbor, it's kind of a toss up depending on which amenities you want. Of the three, I like the look of the Fairfield's rooms the most (the towels were very thin, but other than that, it was okay). The BWPPI's rooms are kind of dark and older looking, but nothing beats the location. The Ramada has been recently renovated, so the rooms might now look better. The walk is kind of "far" (relative to the BWPPI) and it did get kind of lonely late at night (we usually leave after closing, so there were a couple nights when we were the only ones walking that far). Of the three, my family chooses BWPPI because of the location.

The Grand Californian has 8 other wings besides the villas. You may want to book there. Its the best/closest.

I appreciate all of this great information! I had my heart set on the GC, but just cannot justify spending over $500 a night ( the Main reason for our trip to California is to attend a concert, so visiting DL is just an extra I am really wanting to add on to our visit). Since rack rate GC is out of our budget, any advice on how much more, if any , the other two on site hotels are compared with the motels mentioned above on a Harbor?
