We are 1st timers. Feb 16th, 3 days on the Wish. (Assuming covid hasn't totally spiked.)

Any suggestions for what hotel to stay at the night before? We are looking to convenience to the port. Anything walking distance??

Thanks!

We usually stay at the Country Inn and Suites. If you reserve early enough you can request a room that faces the port and the kids can look across and see the Disney ship docked in the morning. :flower1:

There really isn't anything in walking distance that I know of. But, Country INN and Suites has a shuttle

We like to stay at the Orlando airport Hyatt if we're not staying a Disney resort. You don't have to drive anywhere after flying in (a mercy after a late evening flight), and it's convenient to the port in that the DCL transfer bus will take you directly to the ship in the morning- no need to arrange for your own transportation at all.

OP, how are you getting to the Port Canaveral area ? Plane, car ? The answer will vary. We also like staying at the Hyatt at the airport when flying in, then using the DCL shuttle from the airport to port in the morning.

If you are driving in, there is nothing in walking distance. The Residence Inn is probably the closest hotel to port in PC, and we have stayed there before, but there is no reason to pick your hotel solely on location in relation to the port.

There are a dozen hotels just off MCO property on Augusta National Drive. Cheaper than the Hyatt in the airport and most include breakfast. They will pick you up at the airport when you arrive, and take you to the DCL bus pickup point at the Airport the next day.

By the port - there are a number of places that have a park and ride - where you can park your own car at the hotel for the duration of the cruise. If you don't have a car, then some of the hotels have their own shuttle to the port. Country Inn and Suites is there, as is Radisson and a Residence Inn nearby as well. There is also a SpringHill Suites. The options are truly endless.

Another vote for the MCO Hyatt and DCL transportation to/from port. For us, it's just easier and the hotel at the airport was a blessing this last time when our flight was delayed and landed later than planned. Was nice to be off the plane and in our hotel room in 15 minutes.

Walking to port would e wildly hazardous to health and well being. Those crossings right by...

There's a bunch at Port Canaveral, and I have read some people will stay at Coco Beach which is a very short drive away. I've stayed at the Raddison, and while it did its job for one night I didn't think it was worth the price. It's an older property and it showed. Of course, it's been a while so it may have changed but it wasn't my favorite.

Another vote for the MCO Hyatt. So easy to get off plane and hit the hotel and relax. They have a pool if the kiddos want to have fun. MCO has a pretty good food court to grab meals. Nice area to shop in like Disney Store and Universal along with other stores.

With DCL transfers you don't have to worry about PAT or boarding number as that comes with it. You don't have to worry about luggage as DCL will pick them up in your hotel room and you won't see them until they deliver them to your stateroom.

I did not know these facts. This makes it an almost no brainer to me. Fly, check in, relax. It's just starting the vacation early.

You'll see when you get down here: the port area is rather industrial and utilitarian, with not much within walking distance.
You could stay at a hotel on the beach (not on the beach but the island where Cape Canaveral is located) or one of the chain hotels by the interstate in Cocoa. Orlando International Airport has a bunch of hotels around it (naturally).

That's what we've done as we are highly affiliated with Marriott . . . and there's great choice (i.e., competitive prices?) there. But the Hyatt at MCO has its advantages especially if one is using the Disney Transportation as Cheburashka and others have noted.
Of course, if one is doing a car/limo service (3+ people and/or with a shopping stop), it doesn't really matter.
.
We tend to be early risers, and with the anticipation, we tend to get up early . . . so there's plenty of time to check-out of room, arrange transportation, get to port, etc. etc.

Whats the advantage to the Hyatt if you have Disney Transportation? The off site hotels are like 5 minutes by shuttle to the Disney bus drop off point, and the shuttles take you right there.

Disadvantages:

Finding the shuttle stop.
Dragging luggage onto the shuttle.
Dragging luggage off the shuttle.
Getting space on the shuttle the next morning.
Dragging luggage onto the shuttle.
Dragging luggage off the shuttle.
Dragging the luggage to DCL bus.

Sometimes convenience is worth it.

I thought the Hyatt has discontinued transferring luggage to the Disney buses?

We live in Florida, but I would do this 100 out of 100 times. You're essentially starting your vacation a night early. You can't beat that.
