Hi
Just really looking for advice before I go ahead and book for October 2015.
There are 6 of us 2 adults and 4 kids 3,5,11,16
We all love the look of the cabins and the feel of the open space so the kids can be kids.
The only thing that is worrying me is the time it is gonna take to get to parks.
I am thinking of hiring a golf cart but we will need a 6 seater and I have been told this may not be possible.
Also is there somewhere to refill our mugs that we will get and have breakfast.
We are all looking forward to the Halloween activities does anyone know what time these start as we also want to do mnsshp one night as well.
Sorry for all questions I'm just getting very excited now as we can book on 24 April.

Thanks again

We debated the cabins as well. We ended up booking another resort because I was worried about the distance. But with 6 people it's a good choice for you. I recall reading a review somewhere (google) about requesting certain ones to be closer to main areas without a car.

Last year when we were there the not so scary Halloween party started at 7pm. But I think it can vary slightly on different nights.

You are choosing a great time to visit! We were at the fort this past October and so many sites were decorated for Halloween, it was great! The kids will love being at the fort, so much to do and see. If you are there on Halloween, they can trick or treat at the campsites too!

A golf cart does come in handy, but the bus system works great also.

Getting to the Magic Kingdom is fairly easy, the boat takes you there right from the marina. The other parks are by bus, unless you drive yourself. You can take the boat to the Contemporary resort, and catch the monorail to the TTC, then Epcot.

There is a breakfast buffet and take out at Trails End, you can refill your mugs there as well. I believe they also have mug refills at the pool, and meadows shop.

Mickeys not so scary is awesome! Great choice!

Have fun planning!

Is there any way you can bring bicycles from home to the Fort? If not for all maybe for the older folks/kids? That way between bikes and a 4-seat golf cart you can get around easier.

The cabins loops are served by 2 of the 3 internal bus lines at the Fort so your odds are better at getting a bus than some of us at a trailer site served by only one line. Also, some folks like cabin loop 2800 (especially near its entrance) because it's a short walk to the Outpost bus stop. ALL internal bus lines at the Fort originate or terminate here and this is the stop for external busses to the theme parks, DTD, etc.

We drive to all the parks except MK and park for free courtesy of our Fort parking pass (similar to the other on-property resorts). MK take the internal bus or cart/bike down to the beach and boat directly to MK or to the Contemporary and walk over (this CR route runs earlier in the morning than the direct boat will. The direct boat will get you to the MK before the scheduled opening time but when we were there last month the MK rope dropped about 15 minutes early so I don't think the direct would have gotten you there early enough. The CR boat starts running much earlier and we got to the MK well before rope drop).

Mugs can be refilled at Trails End takeout for sodas, coffee, tea, etc. The Meadow Trading Post only has coffee and tea. Sodas can only be filled at the Meadow Pool Snack Bar. Since the soda machine is behind the counter, you have to show them your mug and tell them what you want to drink. They will fill a paper cup (of the type offered for sale) for free and hand it to you. They can't take your mug over the counter and you can't go back there obviously. Folks also can go to Wilderness Lodge or the Contemporary (short hops on bus or boat) for more Counter Service or Table Service options besides Trails End and the Pool Snack Bar. Here is the Trails End takeout menu as well. We like the Giddyup and Go chicken dinner with sides (serves 5 easily). Since you have 6 that might be enough food or you could throw in a Lone Rider to make sure. The cabin kitchen will allow you to cook meals and save some dining dollars if you wish.

Trails End offers a breakfast buffet only (no ala carte) that is good and a decent value by Disney standards but it's probably not an every morning solution.

Here is last year's Halloween activity schedule at the Fort. No guarantee this year (or next) will be identical but use it for planning purposes.

If you want to be theme park warriors in the parks all day every day, the Fort may not be for you. The Fort is great for spending an afternoon or a full day (or more) relaxing and enjoying the outdoors and activities. And in October, as folks say, the decorations are something to see.

The cabins are a great option for families with 5 or 6.
We stayed at the cabins last time with 5. We rented a 4 person golf cart and fit 5. Indeed carts are not required albeit a nice luxury item. The bus system worked fine for us during other stays. They are really easy once you learn the system. We don't commando tour anymore so a relaxed attitude in getting places is helpful. We had some water, juices, produce and breakfast items delivered ahead of time by GG.
Have fun planning your trip. The cabins are great and have plenty of linens and a big bathroom.

Oh this is a good point and I couldn't let it go without adding:

It's all about "butts in seats" (Ed's term).

You have 6 people but the two youngest are 3 and 5. As long as everyone can sit in a "4-person cart" on the seat (not in each others laps, not hanging out the sides, not running beside the cart) you are fine by Disney standards. In other words, as long as everyone's butts are planted on a seat, you're okay.

If anyone is Pooh-sized (or "fluffy" as Gabriel I. says), you may have problems but use your own judgement. The person-count is not a hard-and-fast rule judging by Fort actions. Butts in seats is a hard-and-fast rule judging by Fort actions. So if you can fit 3 in the front seat and 3 in the back seat (with someone over 16 driving the golf cart) and everyone is "butts in seats", you're good.

PS - thanks rbork! :rotfl:

We love the cabins!! We stay there every October. We are a family of 6 and always rent a golf cart. 4 seaters you rent in advance and then they put you on a waiting list for a 6 seater, which are amazing. My husband usually meets me and the kids down there with his tractor-trailer semi (always working). The fort is awesome about us parking it in the lot for our 9-10 days and then I drive up with the 6 seater and get all of our things that I sent down with him. We usually do breakfast in the cabins and then pack water and snacks for the rest of the day. The kids love the fort, they call it their Disney home. They can run around outside within sight if us, which you can't do at hotels. Enjoy!!
