A friend has invited me to tag along on her work / vacation in December. I am so ready to take the plunge and book it but have a couple of questions ..

My friend has to work until early afternoon on Friday, Dec 2 so I will be on my own from when my plane lands at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday until early afternoon on Friday. She will be staying in Melbourne until end of work on Friday when we'll meet up and check into her timeshare in Orlando.

- Would it be logical for me to book one nite at a Value Resort (1) for a place to lay my head and (2) not have to worry about a rental car and use Magical Express to the hotel?

- What would be the logical thing to do on Friday morning to kill time? I won't have much in the way of luggage but I will have too much to drag it around all over the place.

- I won't have park admission until 4:00 when it's time for us to go to MVMCP so I'm thinking maybe catch the bus to Downtown Disney around 10:00 Friday morning .. shop .. grab lunch and wait for her to pick me up there? It's probably out of the question to leave a small carryon size suitcase under the watchful eye of someone in guest services at Downtown Disney?

This will be my first "solo" trip to Disney w/out DH or my DD so it's all new territory. I'm so excited yet very nervous at the same time.

Just take your luggage down to baggage check and ask them to hold it. Then go and explore where you want and then go back and get your luggage and have your friend pick you up at your hotel. This way, you do not have to worry about your luggage while looking around, plus, I am not 100% sure they will let you take your luggage on the bus with you to DTD from what I've read on the transportation threads.

first off, don't be nervous. I travel solo to Disney ALL the time. it's my time to relax and see things I want to at my own pace. I don't think you will have a problem with leaving your luggage, that happens more times than not that travelers have a late flight so they spend one last go round in the parks.
I love going to DTD! if you go from one end to the other it will take you a good part of the day. sleep in late, head to DTD do some shopping, have some lunch, catch a movie if you're so inclined. there's plenty to do (or not do). relax and enjoy your time alone and focus on you!
Have a great time, wish I could be there at that time, everyone says it's fun and festive.

Sounds like a great plan. Take ME, get a good night's rest and meet your friend in the afternoon. You could also have your luggage transferred to your DVC resort. Just take it to the Bell staff and ask them to transfer it to there and list your friends, name on the reservation. It will be waiting for you, so you can take a shuttle straight from DTD to the DVC resort. Have fun!
