Any suggestions for a good place for dinner our first night at WDW? We will not be doing any parks that day so something that is either at a resort, Downtown Disney, etc. We have two children, ages 5 and 3 1/2, my husband and myself. We will be staying at POFQ.

I figure we will spend the afternoon exploring the resort, possibly swimming, but am trying to decide what we should do for dinner. How is Boatwrights? Would I need ADRs for Boatwrights? How is the atmosphere at Ohanas? Is it really loud?

Thanks!

How about the Rainforest Cafe at Downtown Disney? My kids loved it when we took them there our first night.

I personally like Boatwrights -especially for breakfast. I always get an ADR when I've gone there, but I've never seemed to actually need it.

I love Ohana - you'll definitely need an ADR if you go there. I think Ohana is kind of loud, but not unbearable. It is very popular with kids and families.

For other suggestions - Since you have young kids have you considered Chef Mickey's? Also - if you go to Boma at AKL you can go see the animals on then savannah before or after you eat.

How about the Cape May Cafe clam bake? The food and atmosphere is great. We try to schedule that on a night that we are not doing any of the parks.

I've heard Boatwright's doesn't get the best reviews. Most resort restaurants are good by reputation and personal experience. I haven't tried Boatwright's, though we're at POR in June and not planning to eat at Boatwright's - too many other proven options. What type of first night experience are you wanting? The top-of-the-price-range super magical first night we've had was at California Grill atop the Contemporary where you can view the fireworks while eating your dessert if you time the reservation right. The best value first night we've had was "Mom's Special" at Pop Century resort - good and huge amount of food. Will you have a fridge for leftovers at POR? For some Disney magic of an international theme rather than cartoon theme and at the middle of the price range is Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge. We especially like to catch the story time around the fire pit at AKL after Boma or view the animals on the savanna prior to Boma. Hope you find an option that suits you.

What about Chef Mickey's? You can get a taste of the magic without using a park ticket. :)

I too vote for Chef Mickey's because of the ages of your children. It's a great start to a WDW vacation. We've been there twice on the first night when we had little ones with us. It just seems more "Disney" than some of the others mentioned.

Definitely Ohana for the first night, great way to get into the "Disney mood"

When our children were young, we always had our first night meal at Chef Mickey's. It's a great way to start your vacation. :)

Wow! Thanks for all of the great suggestions. I think I will call this afternoon to see if I can get ADRs at either Chef Mickeys or Ohana. I think these would be a great way to start off our vacation. Hopefully I am not too late - we leave in 2 weeks! Wish me luck.

Another vote for Chef Mickey's!!!
My kids didn't like the food at WCC, but it was fun. No characters but they do cute things with the kids.
We liked Ohana's too but I wouldn't do it for the first night.

For us there is just something about starting our first night with dinner at Chef Mickey's. You get good food, great atmosphere, very kid friendly, and all the "main" Disney characters! We have always had great character interaction. Also we like to plan it so that when we are done eating we can head over to the observation deck to watch Wishes! Great way to start a trip!!
