After reading very many reviews about how bad the ISO 400 is on panasonics, I decided not to shoot anything BUT.

All are straight out of camera with no adjustments other than resize for web, using photoshop bicubic.

100% crops coming soon, and maybe I will shoot 80 ISO sometime this week.

EDIT= I guess that last image was downsized even more by photobucket.
AND forgot to mention that all were handheld, IS seems to work pretty well.

Hi Anewman.

I've been waiting to see these shots from the Panasonic. They look pretty clear to me. :thumbsup2 I've been going back and forth between a Panasonic LZ5 and a Canon SD700 IS (which is WAAAYYY pricey). The Panasonic is looking better and better. Thanks for posting the pics.

Your dog is a real cutie! :dog2: Is that a boxer?

OK here are some crops at 100% for the pixel peepers.

Out of Camera.

Well Considering that I have not touched the lower ISOs I would say that if this is as bad as it gets it was more than worth my $175. When we went to pick this up we stopped by at BestBuy and they had the LZ5 @ $225, we were tempted on getting a refund from circuit city but we chose to keep the LZ3.

Yes that is our Dog "Karma", she has seen better days and we are just hoping she makes it through the holidays.

i think the ISO 400 is less noisey than my S2IS. DH is looking for a small cheap pocket camera for work. I think I may have just found it.

but you're taking ISO 400 in a bright light situation. That's why it's clear. Try in a real darkened situation, that's when you can judge the performance of high ISO.

Even Kodak ISO 400 in a bright situation like that will look almost as clear.

Actually the 1st picture was indoors and shot without flash(as all images were) indirect light coming in from a window, if you check the exif data it was shot WIDE OPEN and with 1/25th shutter. Similar versions required even slower shutter, down to 1/13th with the exact same results(in terms of noise). It was the one that exhibited the worst noise(as pictured above), but it actually prints out quite nice at 8x10(without removing noise).

Second photo was in the shade of our house after sun had passed over, in simple mode it may have selected ISO 200(maybe).

I used the bright outdoor photos because of the strong contrast expecting unacceptable noise in the shadowy areas, even after zooming in 100% it did not exist.

I will take more indoor shots for you, but I will not underexpose purposely.

not to split hair, because it is a good ISO400 for the price, but the ISO noise noise-reduction does create water-colour-like image.

now if the Panasonic can be bought at that price in Canada, it's going to be a Canon contender. (they are priced very similary in Canada)
