I've read alot of threads on this site preparring for our upcoming October Wonder cruise. There are many threads about the servers and which ones are best. Do you get to pick the servers? How does everyone get so intimate with the servers? Do you just have 1 server for the cruise? How does the server thing work? Sorry if these are stupid questions.

You will get a server and an assistant server that will handle several tables in your assigned table area. The server will normally handle taking your food order and bringing that out. Your assistant server will handle your drinks, removing plates, cleaning your table, etc. Although they both work together. You will also have a head server that is responsible for several serving teams and making sure you have no issues with them. Some head servers are very good and will stop by regularly and some have been known to only show up once or twice.

Your servers tend to be very friendly and if you are a talkative person, you will find yourselve becoming close to them. For that reason, some people will "request" certain servers when they return back on the ship. Unfortunately, there is alot of upheaval with people being transferred around in preparation for the new ship so their server may not always be on their sailing ship (or they could be on leave).

It all helps make the experience that much more magical.

I can't answer all you questions but I will do my best
Question 1: I have no idea if you can request servers.
Question 2 &3 : It's easy to get close to your servers when you have the same 2 for the whole week you are on board. They follow you from restaurant to restaurant on your dining rotation.
I met my husband on the last cruise we took (Magic) and while neither one of us could tell you the names of the two servers, we could tell you that the gentleman server was from India and he was set to get married as soon as we got back to port and he traveled to India. It was an arranged marriage and he was very nervous. I can't remember the country that the lady server was from (I think Romania or Russia) She was a very pleasant lady with a bubbly disposition (not annoying bubbly). Both servers gave us 5 star service and got to know us both personally and our eating/drinking likes and dislikes.
I hope we are as lucky this time to get two great servers since this time we will have 2 children that would love any extra attention from someone who thinks they are important too.

Went on a 3 day DCL in '03 with a group including DD, DSiL, DGS, DW, and I the server we had was Typhoon from Turkey. In '05 my DW and I went on a 3 day DCL get away, went to lunch at Parrot Cay; Typhoon spotted us walking up to the door while he was in the escort line, he came out of line and welcomed us back before we got to the head server. He served us lunch and asked about the other 3 members of our previous cruise. We went to the dining change location/meeting, requested him as our server for the cruise, and it was arrainged. In between the cruises Typhoon had gone back to Turkey twice and gotten married, but he still recognised us two years later.
