WEEEEEEEE! Quick pre-trip post!

DH and I are FINALLY doing our wish upon a star first ever adults only trip HOME! Kids are 7 & 9 - lots and lots of juggling to make this happen but it IS! 2 nights 2/2-2/4. Celebrating each other, my birthday, a little break from responsibility!

THE PLAN:
Wednesday - early morning flight, Epcot for FotA! Really want to do as much of the “colorful cuisine walk” as possible - whatever we can fit in our belly’s! 3/5 items I was planning on getting ANYWAYS and I know my daughter will appreciate the “prize” and seeing our stickers etc. We want to find at least 1 piece of artwork to bring home and all the figment merch for my son who’s a HUGE fan! Planned on getting the infamous popcorn bucket .. but OH WELL! Just glad I didn’t show it to him so he isn’t disappointed!

Thursday - maybe actually sleep in for the first time in almost 10 years?! One can dream. But chances are we will be up early! Which will be good since this is HS day. Goal is to get the Starbucks 50th mug - it’s the only one im missing! DH loves galaxy’s edge so I’m sure we’ll spend a good amount of time there. My fav ride in this park is MMRR, hoping to ride that and convince DH to do ToT which is a close 2nd fav. He’s always sworn he never will but I got a “maybe” from him the other night… we’ll see. If I can butter him up with lots of Starbucks and snacks he might actually do it! It’s also been a solid 20 years or so since I’ve ridden Rockin Rollercoaster. My son has been asking about that one so I might give it a whirl to see if he can stomach it for our next family trip.

Friday - is there anything better than a Starbucks while walking down Main Street? I THINK NOT! Our MK day! Made late lunch reservations for Skipper Canteen - we’ve never been! Need to leave the park sometime around 4 to make our flight, but there really isn’t anything huge on the agenda aside from seeing my favorite castle, enjoying each other’s company, and doing some shopping TOGETHER without bribing kids ha!

Using our DVC points for a lake view room at BLT. It’s our first time using DVC points at the contemporary. I only booked a couple months ago - talk about getting lucky with a room! I can’t wait to watch the sun rise with my hubby. We’ll be married 15 years this fall. Our first Disney trip was in 2012 - it was supposed to be a “drink around the world” honeymoon and instead it turned into a babymoon and my daughter came with us via my belly ha! We have been talking about taking some time just for us for entirely too long. I can’t wait to be in my fav place with my fav person, reconnecting. I know I’ll miss the kids but I’m ok with that HA!!!!

We’ve done every ride at every park - we go to WDW quite a bit, it’ll be nice to slow down and people watch. Really stop to take photos, eat wherever we want - whenever we want. Have a couple drinks and just be us. Going to start packing today!

We got a lake view room - I would have appreciated full view, this seems more like a pool view to me but whatever! I’ll take it!

Day 1: PERFECT

Our room was ready when we pulled in at 12:00. We took the monorail to Epcot and enjoyed SO MUCH FOOD!! Brief summary:

Pan Seared Scallops @ The Artists Table - Yes! We had 2!
Deconstructed BLT — hubby REALLY liked it, I thought it was good but I wouldnt get it again.
Deconstructed Key Lime Pie @ Deconstructed Dish - I agree with the bloggers that it’s refreshing. Nothing really to go nuts over though!
Carne Asada @ El Artists Hambriento - SO OVERPRICED! Just ok - skip it. Worst pick we made.
Blood Orange-braised Beet Carpaccio @ Gourmet Landscapes - didn’t realize it was a chilled salad. Wouldn’t have gotten it if it were t on the walk list - it was refreshing. I’d recommend! I also love beets, hubby doesn’t like beets but he did enjoy this dish.
Wild Boar Cassoulet@ Pastoral Palate - SO GOOD! I would never had tried boar if DH didn’t want it. Stand out for us, heavier though like a stew. The sausage is a tiny bit sweet. So glad we had this!
Play on Rosé Flight @PP - STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND GET THIS FLIGHT! I’m not a big rose girl, but it looked interesting and samples all three drinks so why not. Omg it was soo good I went back and got…
Frozen Rose @ PP - die hard fan here now. If this is ever on the menu again - I will get it every time. I’m shocked I haven’t seen people talking about it.
Chorizo and Potato Empanada @ vibrante & Vivido - just as good as promised by all the bloggers. Another heavy dish!

All in all our top picks - for me it’s the Frozen Rose and for hubs it’s the Empanada!

Collected enough stamps and really loved the process.

Ah frozen Rosé - I miss you already!

is there anything better than finding a shady spot and people watching at Epcot?! There was a gentle breeze coming off the lake, weather couldn’t have been better. While we walked around the showcase engorging we stopped at some random shops, found places to relax, and maybe I got a second frozen rosé in France 🤪🤣. The peach flavoring is nice! But the one from the booth is better in my opinion.

We got to enjoy the band in Canada right around 5, did some shopping (got my passholder hoodie!) and watched the sunset. Not a care in the world!

We would up back at port of entry just as it got dark and DH said “Want to go ride Minetrain during the fireworks?”

UM YES!!! It was right around 6:45 and we ran into beacons of magic as we exited. It was perfect!

We wound up timing it PERFECTLY! Posted stand by was 50 minutes when we walked into MK, but we could tell it wasn’t THAT long. Wound up waiting about 35 and were sitting around 8:05. I really hope I can figure out how to attach the video here… it makes me happy! It was crazy exciting (and even a bit romantic hehe). Tips? Maybe I’ll post it on my IG if anyone wants to see :)

While waiting we were trying to figure out what to do for food… yes even after that indulgent day we were hungry by 8! No walk up at Steakhouse 71 available, so I did a pick up order of two steaks and we decided to walk over to see IF we could get into the lounge… Anyone else LOVE the MK walkway to the contemporary? We are huge fans!

and we DID! There was PLENTY of seating. I was able to cancel my pick up order without any issue and we ate at a bar for the first time since we were newly weds!!!!! We split the stack burger and the mac N cheese. We agree with all the review. BEST BURGER ON PROPERTY. Better than Geyser Point. The Max had jalapeños and bacon, I’m drooling just thinking about it! At that point DH proclaimed best meal he’s had at the parks, period. My vote was/is still Homecomin, but it’s a close second! In talking with the bartender he told us the lounge really isn’t very busy typically, and yes if we wanted to come back with the kiddos they’d be welcome. I think we’ll do it!

Was back in the room by about 9:30ish, maybe 10 and we slept like rocks! Next day…. HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS (our fav).

Thursday - HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS!

We arrived at 8:10 for 8:30 early entry. Gates were open and we lined up immediately for MMRR since it’s one of our favorites. While in line we spent a good 10 minutes lightly arguing, arguing not being the right word, more like… disagreeing about whether or not one of us should duck out to SBX for my long awaited mug and cooofffeeeeeeeeeee. DH is not a big fan of jumping in and out while I’m a proponent in very certain circumstances. For this one my argument was it was a looping line outside, we had 20 until the doors even opened… you didn’t even have to like go past anyone bc of how they loop at the Chinese theater… but in the spirit of respecting his opinion I let it go and waited (im)patiently for my coffee. Much to our chagrin the ride wound up with a delayed opening!!! 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼. The inside queue opened at 8:30 on the dot but the line didn’t actually really start moving until 8:50. I confirmed with the CM before boarding that it was delayed. A minor loss since we couldn’t REALLY take advantage of early entry. We didn’t board until 9:10 - 60 minutes is a fairly average wait time in our experience, we’ve gotten much less at park closing. But it’s a great ride and Hindsight will always be 20/20! If the ride had actually opened as planned it would have much better… but like I said it is what it is and it was fun!

If I did it all over again, I would get my coffee hahaha!

Starbucks was STILL out of the HS anywhere mugs - sad! It’s the only one I’m missing!!!! I hope they come back by the time we go again. Grabbed lots of food and drinks and a bench on sunset boulevard. We sat there people watching for a long time. The weather was perfect. We actually watched a Disney photopass cast member take photos of people most of the long time. I know this might sound weird but it was nice watching her interact with all sorts of people, seeing how she handled different size groups, etc. We enjoyed checking out guests tee shirts and laughing at kiddos doing kid things. It was relaxing. I love that park!

This was the moment - would DH actually -finally - do ToT? We were ON Sunset Blvd… not much else to do down that way… He was in such a good mood he said yes!!!!! I was STUNNED. He’s terrified of heights! It was just the right time to try it…

Posted 45 and the line looped outside the gates quite a bit. It wound up being 35 total on and off. I paid really close attention to the genie + line - when we were at the doors to enter the hotel they let at least 50 guests through the + line. When we were at the counter they let 15 through. I don’t really understand when they decide to make + wait… it SEEMED like never for that ride in particular but I know sometimes + has to wait from personal experience… anyways I digress.

No preshow and 2 elevators were running. It was a GREAT drop! Lots of laughter around the whole cart, that ride always gives me the giggle fits! DH’s comment was “it wasn’t that bad”! See!!! I told you hubby!!!

As a reward for our bravery we headed to Galaxy’s Edge. Made a mobile order for Ronto wraps while walking out of the tower and marked we were there (I know… cheaters… ). By the time we got back to that area our order wasn’t ready - we even had time to do some shopping in the marketplace! Grabbed a seat out by the rocks on the main pathway and relaxed. DH had the standard (his usual) and I had the vegetarian for the first time. It was SOOOO GOOD. I wish I could have added chicken. Much spicier than I anticipated but I like some heat in my food.

It was about 1pm by this time, but we had already done some shopping, had two meals, and two rides. With the kids we would have considered it disappointing to only hit 2 rides since we arrived nearly 5 hours earlier. But with just us it felt nice. A slow pace taking in all the details. We decided to head back to the hotel since it was getting hot and take a nap so we could stay out late in the evening. Grown ups taking naps. Ahhhhh we were so lucky!

Aren't adult only trips great! I mean I loved taking my kids to Disney when they were younger and can't wait to take the grandkids but I loved both of my husbands and my alone trips (one of which was the same time as yours!). I also loved my girls only trip with my sisters, two nieces and my adult daughter. Adult trips are fun. Sounds like a great quick trip so far.
