Friday 29th October 2010
We had a last lie-in and breakfast by the pool (Reeces peanut butter puffs and cookies).
Mandy, Peter and the boys went to the local IHOP for their breakfast but Tony and I were too full from last nights dinner.
While sitting out by the pool, a lovely deer came leaping gracefully across the lawn and into the nature reserve behind the villa. All fortnight we have been watching for wild boar as a lady from the management company told us they had been spotted digging up the lawns around the villas. As the nature reserve was just a metre or two from the pool, I was hoping we would see one, but no luck.
After breakfast, Tony and I weighed our mostly-packed cases, then went to Walmart to buy a few more things. Quite a lot more things, actually, including a giant bag of football-shaped Reeces peanut butter cups, a big bag of mini Paydays, Tony Romas barbeque sauce, and a huge quilt for our bed.
We drove along the 192, stopping at a few places as we still had a few bits and pieces to get for Callum. We were quite disappointed as there were quite a few things we couldnt get for him this year.
We went back to the villa and found that the others had been back in our absence and gone out again to The Magic Kingdom for their last day.
We had lunch, finishing up a pile of snacks crisps, nachos, cookies, mint oreos etc. Nothing that was good for us! Then lazed on the loungers and swam in the pool for the last time.
The others came back, having had a lovely day visiting The Grand Floridian Resort and then having lunch at The Plaza in the Magic Kingdom and watching the parade.
Mandy took lots of great photos:
Heres a few of our photos from 1975, to contrast!
It was much harder to see the parade back then. Most of the characters were just walking along and there was the occasional float but they didnt have the height of todays floats. Our dad struggled to get any photos at all.
The parades have definitely hugely improved.
It's nice to see that some things haven't changed much though:
The Mickey flower bed in 1975:
And in 2010:
Incidently, does anyone know where this is? We think it must be Adventureland, but couldn't find exactly where.
In the evening we drove to Celebration as they had Halloween celebrations going on. We were lucky to find a parking space as it was rapidly getting very busy.
Tony and I ate at one of our favourite restaurants, The Columbia. Its a Spanish/Cuban restaurant and we had a wonderful meal there. I had chicken with pasta parcels stuffed with truffle in a white wine sauce. So delicious. Tony had Paella which was equally fabulous. For dessert, Tony chose the white chocolate bread pudding, which was huge and scrumptious, and I had a sherry-soaked sponge cake which was covered in meringue and flambéed. We sat outside on the terrace so we could watch the people go by. It really was a perfect last night meal.
After dinner, we strolled around the Halloween stalls and declined to go into The Fright Trail, which looked like it went across the park and into the woods and was extremly dark and scary. We could hear the screams coming from the darkness!
We met up with the others. They had had a very nice meal at The Market Street cafe, another favourite of ours. The food was good, but service very slow.
We browsed the shops and bought a little present for Maddie, then drove around a few of the streets in Celebration looking at the houses decorated for Halloween. We were amazed at the effort people had put in. Some of them were incredible the whole of the front of one house had been completely changed to look like a haunted mansion. Unfortunately, I was so busy looking, I forgot to take any photos!
We returned to the villa and reluctantly finished our packing. This took some time, due to having bought far too much earlier. There was much packing, weighing, removing and re-packing. Luckily, Mandy had room in her suitcase for the giant quilt!
We made some coffee, tidied and cleaned the villa, then went to bed.
Tomorrow: Our last breakfast and a long journey home.
